You will get an A4 size sheet at your nearby stationery shop.
Good call. Went to Mahindra service center but Bolero IRVM was unavailable. I will be doing the dampening like you said on existing mirror. I do have nitrile foam sheet and foam tape that I guess will be as effective. Hardtop gets delivered sometime this week. While installing that I'm planning to fix some other rattles too - specifically from the door's latches and something around right bottom corner of rear door. Thanks for the tips you guys.

I stopped the rear door rattle by using Insulation tape. Just wrap some tape on the male stud of the door. The rattle is cause due to inherent play around the latch.

Car looks like this now. Hardtop from Vin4x4 is here, just waiting for my mechanic to get some free time. Those limb risers have been immensely useful although I installed them a little late.

My mechanic contracted Corona and is out of service since last month. So I tried finding someone else who was willing to do the work. I did but the guy hadn't worked on such installation and was going to experiment with my hard top.
Father disliked that idea of some guy experimenting considering how jugaadu most mechanics are, especially the ones with whom you have never worked before.

As the time passed waiting for my primary mech to recover, we decided to take it upon ourselves and fit the HT at home. After all why not break it ourselves than someone else break it?

Long story short: don't try to install Bimbra designed FRP tops at home at any cost. You can buy that design from various manufacturers: I bought from Vin. There is someone in Mumbai too and of course a lot in North India. My warning should apply to all.

I will soon write up all the things we had to go through to fit the HT. It is simply not feasible as a DIY project unless you are sucker for pain and frustration. Lots and lots of it.

Re: Call of the wild - Mahindra Thar CRDe

11 years, 2 months, 81,150 km - time to indulge!

That's what I did with my Jeep today, indulged!

Years of running the engine and gearbox caused sufficient wear in the syncro rings to cause grinding, especially in the second and third gears.
So I decided to completely overhaul the transmission and replace all lubricants.

Stripped the transmission completely and replaced the hub with synchronizers for the first and second gears since they had worn out the most.
For the third and fourth gears, only the synchronizing rings were replaced. Since the gearbox was already opened, replaced the needle bearings, clutch (driven) plate and release bearing.
All the components were thoroughly washed with diesel and re-assembled.

The gearbox was filled with Motul Transmission Oil 80W-90 meeting API GL-4 specification and was laced with two tubes of Liqui Moly gear box additive.

The front and rear differentials were drained and filled with Valvoline Differential Oil meeting API GL-5 specification, each laced with two tubes of Liqui Moly gear box additive.

Since the engine had run more than 10,000 km after the last oil change (Motul Excess 5W-40), I decided to go one step further and use the best possible oil!
I have now switched over to Liqui Moly Molygen 5W-40 Engine Oil that meets ACEA A3, ACEA B4, API SN specifications and is a long-drain oil!

Along with this, the rocker-arm cover gasket, air-cleaner element, oil and diesel filters were replaced.

The Jeep runs as good as a new vehicle and the engine gently growls - I wouldn't call it purr, what with an output of 130 bhp and 330 Nm of torque!

Waiting to take him for a spin sometime on the Bangalore-Mysore expressway, preferably late at night and give him a chance to flex all his muscles

Last but not the least, full credit to the team at Chrome Motors, Bangalore - from the GM Mr. Maqbool, the Service Manager Mr. Dinesh Shetty, the Service Advisor Mr. Chandru and the mechanic Mr. Manju.
What fabulous service! With such a customer-centric team, I don't have to look elsewhere!
