One of those days :/

The ULTIMAT3- F30 BMW 328i. EDIT: Upgraded with ///M Exhaust, Injen Intake & Steinbauer Power Module-1599126996209.jpg

The cause for the flat was that the valve/nozzle was damaged and was leaking air at a rapid pace.

Fixed

Hi Karan,

What is your opinion of the Mini Cooper S JCW for someone looking for a sports car on a budget (40-50 L). Bascially a fast, cool looking car, 2 seats are ok

What would be your advise.

Hi,

I personally dont really fancy the Mini Cooper range, but having driven one on a private racetrack it is surely fun. I'd also travelled in one (for about 150+ kms) as someone i know has a convertible one with the JCW exhaust, it sounded really good & the section of road we travelled to (NH3/Iggatpuri Lap) it seemed really happy.

Here's a pic from that drive/road section;

BUT it still is not practical (As a only 1 Car Garage), not bad road friendly & has to be driven carefully.

Overall i'd anyday prefer a BMW 330i over the Mini

A proper M car will be totally different from a JCW. If you are open to preowned, drop me a message.

I have driven both the R56 Cooper S and the F56 Cooper S JCW pack extensively, and let me tell you these Minis are bags of fun! Very little understeer, sharp and direct steering, a fruity exhaust note and enough trinkets inside-out to make you feel special. But in my opinion it’s not worth the 40-50 lakh price tag that it commands. If you really want one, find a good used one. I think BHPian QuickDraw has listed his F56 Cooper S for sale and the price isn’t too bad.

However, I will also say that I agree with Karan and Turbonator. If you can spend 50 lakh today on a sports car, you will find a well maintained and decently run M3/M4 for similar money and let me tell you - these Bimmers are the real deal!

Can you get an F80 M3/M4 for under 50L? I don't know much about the actual selling prices post discounts, but the listed prices were 1.2 - 1.3cr ex-showroom! I can only find last gen Z4s in that range - plenty of them are available from 30-40L with barely any kms on them, which may be a suitable choice for a sports car in that budget? It'd certainly be my pick over the Mini Cooper, any day.

Yes you can. I have seen on Big Boy Toyz a M3 for around 55 lakh. I am also aware of a heavily modded M4 on sale for around 50 lakh.

If you can shell out a little more money, I believe there is a Mercedes C63 AMG for around 60-65 lakh as well. You need to find a specialist who would be able to run a fine-tooth comb and identify problems as well as potential issues in these cars. Plus, these cars will be twice or even thrice as expensive to maintain as a regular Mercedes and BMW - please keep that in mind.

These are 18" 400M alloys? Beautiful. Looking at how tyre prices increase exponentially with wheel size, I sometimes feel we are being unfairly charged for the 18" tyres compared to lower variants that come with 17". We would save huge money over longer run if we downsize but then whenever I look at the wheels, I fall for the looks and think the car deserves these!

Generally I see good 2-3000 Rs./ Tyre difference between 17" and 18", so much for aethetics!

Ok, compared the photo with my alloys side by side and I see mine (400 M) have the //M logo itched near the bolts.

Thanks Suhaas. Have heard horror stories of BBT. They seem to be tinkering with the cars a bit (not too much) but yeah. so cant trust such big dealers.
And its really hard to come by individuals selling such cars.

Therefore, I was more inclined towards new cars and hence the question. I am also looking at lower maintenance cost

I was heavily hinged on the C43 but its a bit out of budget, so trying for the next best option. New Z4 20i is too underpowered for the price.

Thanks Karan. I am using a Merc Gla and Volvo V40 for all my practical needs. So this will be an additional car. I understand that Minis are overpriced, but i feel the resales are also pretty good so that should cover up incase i get bored in 3-5 years. I have seen 1-3 year old cars go for mid 30s.

All major staple german cars seem to have heavy discounts, Audi, BMW, Merc all have atleast 15-20% off exshowroom these days and all of them have a fast petrol variant, eg. A6 45 TFSi, Bmw 330i, X3 30i etc. For my needs does it make sense to go for such options or something like a Mini, (or any other 2 door setup car) which hardly has any discounts being CBU.

Sorry to drag the topic a bit

Odometer Reading: 35,899 kms.

The ULTIMAT3- F30 BMW 328i. EDIT: Upgraded with ///M Exhaust, Injen Intake & Steinbauer Power Module-20200912_101656.jpg

As per iDrive the service was supposed to be scheduled in July 2020, but due to Covid-19 & other delays the service happened on 12th Sept. 2020.

This conditional based service included the Engine Oil, Oil Filter, AC Micro Filter to be replaced. Other than that i got the Brakes cleaned too & made sure both the surfaces are sanded to be smooth. Also tried out a new process called Interior Ioniser which ionises the interior & kills the bacterial, viruses & also eliminates any sort of odour.

Here are some pictures;

Yes, they're Style 397 - 18 x 8.
No, they were also on the previous generation GT model Sport trim.

Odometer Reading: 36,xxx kms

Wheel Speed Sensor failure & this time was the Rear Right sensor. Got it changed immediately. Work done

Post monsoon wheel speed sensor failure has been the norm since many years, lets see which one fails next. Fingers crossed!
