Hey Karan,

What's your overall feedback on the road conditions to Mahabaleshwar. I am planning a short road trip and considering what all options I have for a fun drive. I would be traveling from Pune, so trying to get an idea about the road that starts once you take a right from Mumbai-Pune-Bangalore highway.

The road condition is overall very good, also the ghat section is not bad.

BUT you have to keep a look out for that odd pothole be it on the B'lore highway or the section post Wai.

Rest the road conditions in Mahabaleshwar are surprsingly good.

INJEN Performance Cold Air Intake Install;

Got this done in my office parking spot & the installation took aprox 1.5 hours & had a step by stpe pictorial guide for the same.





Old panel filter vs new;





Clean install, no cutting or bending was required anywhere. A proper BOLT ON

I'm planning to buy a 3-Series in Dubai next fall. Was confused whether I should go for a used 550i or a new 335i. What do you suggest? Is the 335i good enough for those quick bursts? Even some A7 3.0 TFSI are available within my budget but somehow, I don't really like Audi's EPS unit, though Quattro is awesome.

P.S. I loved that wedding burnout act! And btw, congratulations on your wedding!

335i is the way to go id say

550i is tremendous, but the new 5 er is on its way so this will become the old model by next year (if you are ok to live with previous gen then you may consider)

A7 is a beauty no doubt but the quattro can be too SAFE and ud miss out on the FUN factor. (also you are correct that EPS is not good)

So coming back to the 335i, this car is seriously fun and specially when you can buy a new vs the other preowned options id say go in for the NEW option only. Also do note space wise the F30 is similarly spacious vs the F10 so you wont lose there too.

Injen CAI: Performance Gains ?



^ INJEN is stating a 22 whp & 9wtq gain in performance.

The above figures are present on famous websites like MODBARGAINS too.

To be honest the above figures are basically the difference between the minimum reading of the dyno when stock to maximum reading of dyno after installation.

Hence it is good for marketing purpose only, but the real gain is 5whp

Check the results;



^ The above reading suggests the power has gone up from 224whp to 229 whp whereas the torque to the wheels has gone up from 245 ft lb (332 NM) to 251 ft lb (340 NM)

Also the max power is now @ 241 WHP, where as the factory quoted is 245 hp (do note the factory figures are not WHP) hence here is another proof that BMW Under-rate their engines.

Impressions ?

As everytime i push the accelerator pedal down i cant help but SMILE. It definitely has gotten more responsive. The low end anyway which was lag free has becoming more effortless also the top whack specially the last 1000 rpm before redline has gotten that extra push.

Sound ?

No doubt the Air suction sound can be heard from outside but I can hear the car breathing even inside the cabin.

BUT the best sound is when you lift your leg off the throttle & it sounds exactly like a BOV & throws that "pop tisshhhhhh" kinda sound

The car is so much livelier now & with the ///M Exhaust this Air Intake really completes the audio drama the car needed.

Well, even I think the 335i will be perfect for my needs, especially with that optional M-Sport package. However, I was hoping to wait for the XE, for it's said to be a direct competitor to the 3 er in terms of driving pleasure. Let's see. I can even get a new CLA 45 //AMG (my avatar) within my budget. So tempting! Especially when space is not in consideration at all. But its 7-Speed DCT puts me off.

CLA 45 is really chirpy & FAST, but the fun factor considering its a AWD is less compared to the RWD 335i, so choice is yours.
