The black box written 'Relay and Fuse' is a company fitment. Its the the 2nd fuse box placed in the engine bay. The first one is behind the speedometer console.
The small box written 'Philips dual head lamp relay' is an aftermarket fit.

65,000kms update.

Been a couple of months since my last update at 64,000kms.

The small niggles at the 64,000 kms mark never reappeared. Please refer to this post for details- http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...ml#post4060851

The niggle with the power window appears to be well sorted out after spraying the Go20 spray once.
The new Minda horns are a bliss on the highways and for the ignorant bikers or pedestrians.
Quite happy with the Philips 90/100 rally vision bulbs with a Philips relay.

Overall the car is doing absolutely fine. No issues to report. Till now am impressed with the Toyota reliability. Its truly a fill it, shut it & forget it car for the last 5 years 5 months.

Had some small off the road fun too. The incline in the below pic was only attempted by a Fortuner, a Scorpio and my Etios! The other small cars and sedans just backed off! Am not saying they couldn't, they just had more sensible drivers !





Just completed the 65,000 kms mark today (Sunday afternoon) on a lazy 200kms fun drive on the highways.

Hi, I got so much boost with this review that I went ahead and bought a used Etios (P) G SP 2011 model. Just took it for servicing after buying and have been told that clutch main seal has minor leak.

The Toyota showroom tells me it'll cost 2500 bucks which is fine. But I am a bit skeptical as I know a friend whose lancer had similar issues and it cost him in upwards of 50K to fix (this was 4 years ago). Any ideas?

Relax. Mitsubishi has always had exorbitant pricing of it spares, mostly because almost everything is imorted.
Toyota on the other hand has, I believe, 100% localisation for the Etios twins.

Be happy that you are able to get it fixed for as little as 2.5-3k even at the authorized Toyota A.S.S.

Hello Sir,
got to know from one of my friend, NGK spark plugs are available as aftermarket fitment for Etios Petrol. Am not very sure about Denso.

Hi, glad to know that my review helped you in your car buying decision.

Sorry to hear about the problem.

Etios petrol has wired clutch and Lancer had Hydraulic clutch. But still Rs50,000 sounds a lot. If Toyota has quoted you Rs2,500, you can rely on them.
Engine big end bearing has an oil seal. If that leaks, engine oil may leak into the clutch plate and cause slippage.
And lastly i hope its not the gear box oil seal your mechanic meant.
Will eagerly wait for the update once the work is done.

Update for my car at 66,000kms

Planning for a longish road trip this month end. So got my car thoroughly checked up at Saini Toyota.
Every thing seems to be fine, the only requirement was a little top up for the coolant, it was tad below the 'Full' marking.
Rest the car is doing absolutely fine and the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine never fails to bring a smile on my face, when am driving it on open roads.

Hi Vinit ji and Samba ji Thanks for the response.

It turns out the problem was this main oil seal. It was replaced promptly by Thirty six Toyota (Faridabad)

Other servicing was regarding RR bumper side seal, Rubber wiper blade replacement, Antenna sub assembly and a wheelcap. Total damage Rs 4880 including labor and taxes. Toyota is really fuss free servicing, even better than even Maruti in my short experience with them.

Also, it turns out for me front brakepad thickness is 3mm and Disk brake pad is 21.7mm which would last another service (10k) as I was told.

Overall car is driving pretty well now. It has done 44k on ODO and is Apr 2011 make (I got it for 3.1)

Next I need to replace the tires (current set might last another 3000km max)
Profile is 175/65 and I was thinking of going for either Yoko Earth -1 (as suggested by Samba ji) or Michelin XM2 (as suggested by Amal ji http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-a...ml#post4098927) or any other newer options?

I would mainly focus on comfort and stability in long drives (my average running is less than 500km per month so not focused on durability much)

Also, Any ideas with a dashboard camera for the car? Driving in Delhi is scary as it is, would prefer one for peace of mind. Would VIOFO A119 be a good idea? or maybe

I was in the same boat. Both are very good tyres. Yokohama Earth1 has a more rugged side wall than the Xm2, where as on the other had Xm2 will be more quieter than Earth1. If you drive on smooth highways, you can go for Xm2 but if you plan to drive more on rugged terrains then Earth1 will be a better bet. My Etios has done around 23,000kms on the Earth1's. Have covered rough terrains like Ladakh, Sikkim, Bhutan and few more in an absolute hassle free way.
I will suggest you to upgrade from 175/65/R14 to 185/65/R14 with either of the two brands. That will increase the ground clearance of your car by 6mm, improve the braking, handling and ride comfort too. On the flip side the mileage and pick up may dip by a very negligible extent.

Its a very good idea to implement. I have not purchased one yet. Heard from my friends SJ4000 do a very decent job.

71,000kms Service update
&
Etios just completed a 5,173kms road trip to Rajasthan

Got the 70,000kms servicing done.

Works done-
Engine oil change
Oil filter change
Front brake pads changed after 37,000kms.
Washing and cleaning

Total cost- Rs6,591

Just before the road trip, got my car checked up at 65,000kms mark at Saini Toyota and bought an extra 1L engine oil can, coolant and bleed the brake oil along with a washing and whole car check up. Every thing was fine. Total cost incurred was Rs 2,500.

The over all maintenance cost over these 5.5 years and 71,000kms -

A short summary of the car's visit to service centers/ Fng's, apart from the regular service maintenance -

1)6000 kms- To replace the fuel hose as it was a recall from Toyota.
Cost- 0

2)A leaked shock absorber at 18,000kms. Cost -0 (Changed under warranty).

3) Upgraded the stock front shock absorbers to the stiffer shock absorbers under warranty at 22,000kms. Toyota gave there customers a choice and I opted for it. Cost – 0

4) At 23,000kms changed one tyre due to side wall cut. Cost rs 3,400

5) A blown out fuse at 22,000kms due to using a faulty mobile charger. Toyota changed the fuse for free.

6)The stock horn was replaced at 27,000kms due to malfunction. Cost-100rs.

7) At 34,290 kms the following parts were changed. Front disc pads with rotors, rear left shock absorber had a leak so replaced both of them. Cost- Rs 11,599

8) At 34,700kms an anti rattling kit was installed due to a kat kat sound coming from the dashboard area. Though the sound vanished of its own, we still installed the anti rattling kit. Cost rs- 501.

9) At 44,000kms changed all the 5 tyres to Yokokama Earth 1. (185/65/R14) Rs- 22,000. New Exide mileage battery- rs 3200

10) At 45,000kms there was a silent recall from Toyota to change the front seat belt Pre-tensioners Cost – 0

11) At 51,000 kms front left shock absorber was changed. Cost rs 2200.

12) At 60,000kms changed the Clutch cable costing around rs 1300.
Plus changed the rear left tail lamp. Cost rs 1400.

13) At 64,000kms upgraded the horn to dual minda jalwa horn. rs 1200

14) Changed a head light bulb- rs 220

15) Got an extra check up done just before a long trip and stocked 1L engine oil and coolant along with washing and cleaning. rs 2,500

16) Got the right hand side rear view mirror glass changed as the original one fell off by getting hit with the orvm of another car. . rs 1065


Scheduled 1 year/10,000kms services -

1) 1000kms- 1st servicing. Cost- 0

2) 10,000kms- 2nd servicing- Changed engine oil and oil filter. (synthetic oil.) Cost- rs-2,800

3) 20,000kms- 3rd servicing. Changed engine oil (Synthetic oil), oil filter, 4 spark plugs, rotation of tyres and greasing the side walls of the tyres. Cost-rs 3,400

4) 30,000kms- 4th Servicing. Changed engine oil (Synthetic oil), oil filter, ac filter, wiper blade. 30,000km service inspection cost, rear brake shoe assembly both side inspection ,front disc brake pad both side inspection cost- rs 5,240.

5) 40,000kms- 5th Service. Changed engine oil (Synthetic oil), oil filter, 4 spark plugs, Brake fluid. Cost- rs 5,500

6) 50,000kms- 6th service Engine oil (Synthetic oil) and oil filter change, Wiper washer fluid top up ,3m under body check up ,Foam wash to the exterior body ,Premium interior clean.
The only added attention the car needed was the change of the front left shockabsorber. Its developed a leak.,Got the air filter and ac filter cleaned too ,Brakes shoes/pads checked and cleaned. The total bill amount was rs 8,500.

7) 60,000kms- 7th Service. Changed engine oil (Synthetic oil), oil filter, ac filter, wiper blade, 4 spark plugs, Clutch cable, left rear tail lamp, rear brake shoe assembly both side inspection, front disc, brake pads both side inspection. Cost- rs 8,500

8) 70,000kms- 8th service. Changed engine oil (synthetic), oil filter, front brake pads. Rs 6,591

Total cost over these 5.5 years including service, parts changed, tyres, battery = Rs 86,316 for 71,000kms. That's approximately Rs 1.21 per km.

How the car performed in the trip to Rajasthan?

Flawless is the word.

The over all mileage i got was around 13km/liter. 99% of the time A/C was on and there were some fast driving too. So the average i got was quite acceptable.

The stock clutch plate is still holding up well.

The car is absolutely rattle free.

The A/C worked like a charm in the Rajasthan heat.

It was a bliss driving the car on the open highways.

Over all am super satisfied with the over all performance.

Am loving the car more and more as its getting older.

Congratulations on crossing the 71k kms mark. The Etios Petrol sure is a very underrated sedan. I recently drove one to Mumbai from Pune and was mighty impressed with the low-end torque. It was similar to what my Corolla offers. It's out on the highways where these cars truly shine when munching miles. The comfort that they offer is brilliant and the petrol engines are fun yet fuel efficient.

BTW Normally what FE do you get if you cruise between 80-100kmph?

Thanks a ton.

If kept till 100km/hr on the highways, i get around 17km/liter with A/c and 18.5km/liter without A/C. Mileage drops drastically if driven above 110-120km/hr mark.

As for my Ecosport if i dont consider accidental repairs i changed brake pad + rotor at 38k mark and the middle brake led lights were replaced at 42k under warranty. I have 50% more tyre life left, probably due to the hard MRF compound, and the fact that i do 5 tyre rotation instead of 4. Service costs 4.5k on average but thats with semi-synthetic oil.

Did the old Etios have pre-tensioners? My understanding is that this feature was introduced only in late 2015.

Mine is a first gen 2011 Etios and my car have it too. In 2015 there was a recall from Toyota to change the pre- tensioners as some were found to be faulty.
