2. The parking lamp bulbs are upgraded to Philips T10 LED's and they compliment well with the low beam HID's.
Thanks getsurya. I upgraded my stock High beam to Philips HB3 x-treme vision on "Jumbo" (My fortuner's official name, given by my kids !!), but not much relief.

A couple of questions:
1) Does changing to Relay and 100/110 cause any other problems apart from warranty issue ? Do I need to be specific on what I use for relay, wiring harness etc.?
2) How is the performance of Stock Fog lamp bulbs to OSRAM ?
3) Did you just change the parking lamps or was anything else required ?

The reason for asking is, on a recent trip to Kokan it was an absolute struggle with the stock lighting.

As far as I know anything above 100/90 headlamps with relay will kill the reflectors and start the darkening of the reflectors.

If visibility is not sufficient I suggest a Hella 500 FF rather than playing with headlamp.

Hi Jumbo,

Responding to your queries in the order,

1. The reflectors would get dull over a period of time(as Anurag has mentioned). Go for Lightforce(free on budget) or Hella 500FF(tight on budget), strictly for highway drives.
2. OSRAM NB+ are ~30% improvement over the stock high beams. ~20-30% for the fog lamps.
3. I just changed the Parking lamps to T10-Philips, plug and play and nothing else is required.

Happy Motoring!

How did you fit the Osram NBs? The ASCs crib a lot when fitting anything if one is not buying from them (hypocrites). Most of the time they refuse.

Hi Nilanjan,

Osram NB's are plug and play, takes 5 minutes at the max for the high beam bulb replacements. Takes little longer for the fog lamps as the cover has to be removed first. I got the bulb replacement done at my regular accessory shop, picked up the bulbs on ebay India for 1800/pair.

re: Got Fortune'd: White Toyota Fortuner Edit: Sold!

Hi folks,

BOSS breached the 5000 km mark yesterday on the odometer!

It has been more than 4 months since it had entered my life and we are enjoying the car everyday. The mileage on the MID is 10.7 kmpl and is 10.4 kmpl with tank full to full method.

Roads or no roads,
Day or night,
Rain or shine,
BOSS makes me SMILE!

All this while, the ride quality/comfort(read suspensions) was on high watch and as a family we agreed we are comfortable with it. So, Bilsteins are not happening any time now!

One picture for your viewing pleasure, which was taken by my wife yesterday.

Update time on BOSS:

The car is providing the daily dose of smile when you start holding the steering for the day!

I have got the air filter cleaned, as the ASC missed doing it during 5000 km servicing, thanks to Guderian.

Lost one of the covers of the Hella 700FF(not the 500 FF, as I mentioned earlier in error) when a brainless scooterist came too close to the front trying to zip through the gap at a signal. I did not realize that the cover was flipped out and drove on, much to somebody chasing me after 2 km and telling me that the cover fell down at the signal!! No damage to the lights or the front bumper, however procured the new cover from the accessory friend's shop.

The mileage on the MID says 10.4 kmpl and keeps me happy as long as it is above the double digits.

The car is much smoother and the engine sound seems to have settled down to a normal rhythm. The turbo whoosh is a pleasure to hear to as the RPM picks up!

Salute to the BOSS. Same pinch

My Swift to has completed 5K a few days back though I have done it in 2 months.

We both get smiles as we clock miles when on the drivers seat but for different cars.

Dis you visit 3M after we met there?

re: Got Fortune'd: White Toyota Fortuner Edit: Sold!

Update time:

I added a Jabra Tour car bluetooth speaker system to handle my second mobile communication. A good product that has motion sensors and voice control. Costed about Rs.5200 on Amazon.in and is really a good product.

I also went for Stay Kool nano coating spray on the glasses(except the windshield) to keep the Hyderabad sun away and add some efficiency to my car's a/c.

The details of the same can be found on this thread too:

re: Got Fortune'd: White Toyota Fortuner Edit: Sold!

Good Friday saw me driving BOSS out to Warangal and back for a day trip with family. The SUV performed very well and has impeccabe road manners, pot holes or none does not matter!

It was a 370km round trip and the mileage returned was 10.5 kmpl with decent speeds. The recent addition of the StayKool to the glasses has a good difference to the a/c performance. I measured the temperature difference from outside to inside, which was in the range of 12-14 degrees, with a/c on at blower speed 2. My family was comfortable and has mentioned the same couple of times throughout the ride that they can feel the difference inside the car(less heat, no skin burning sensation etc).

A day well spent with BOSS!!

re: Got Fortune'd: White Toyota Fortuner Edit: Sold!

Hi getsurya,

While driving on a highway at a speed around 80-90 Kmh, I hear (more like I feel it coming) a prominent sound on sudden hard braking, for e.g., when I see a big pothole or a dog in the middle of the road.

The sound comes when ABS kicks-in and its not the brake-pads as they make different noise.
Have you come cross such thing with your BOSS.

Also does the ABS fully ensures that car continues to move or slow down in the straight path without any deviation ? I feel the car does deviate a bit.

The ABS will prevent the wheel from locking up so that the car is steerable and not propelled in straight line towards the danger.

The car may fish tail a bit under hard braking but that can be controlled by the steering.

Hi Wanderers,

Sorry for a late reply! I have no such issues in my BOSS and have had occasions using the ABS in real time situations. The car held to its ground superbly and was more than a life saver The straight line behaviour is more to do with the steering direction when the car is braked upon and as Anurag said, that can be corrected with the steering input.

Update time:

The BOSS had its first skirmish with a wobbly two wheeler who jumped in front of my car and caused minor scratches. "Scratch out" came to the rescue and did its job well. A tough look from inside the car was enough to scramble the two wheeler idiot's away!

A garden hose was procured from Metro cash & carry! This is especially useful to carry on long trips and all you need is a hose(which any decent hotel shall provide you!) that can be attached quickly to wash the car at a short notice.
Thanks to ecosportrules for this idea!!
