Re: BMW 320d: Joy comes home, My ultimate 3

Just the other day I was asking on how to avoid stone/pebble hits on the road. And yesterday it happened and confirmed my worst fears. Was coming back from a wedding in the night and a small stone from nowhere hit the windscreen and left a small mark ( kind when you get on the glass) right in front of the driver's screen. Out of the numerous stones that I have encountered till date, none has ever left any damage. And the first one on the beemer DID!

Sorry to hear that. Nothing really one can do about flying stones on India roads. Lottery system in reverse.

Hey thanks to dr mohit finally decided on a 320d sportsline... Getting tyres changed please recommend the size.. Dealer is providing 225 50 r17. Is that Ok or should I go in for better tyres by paying difference?

What are you changing tyres to? That is the stock size, you don't need to go wider for the 320d.

Have been offered 30 ex.showroom. For the sportsline 2013 model, Havana brown colour. Is it a good deal?
Have to finalise tomorrow itself. He says the ex showroom price now is about 38 lacs. Please advise. Spoke to bird automotive too but they declined to match the offer.

Congrats Arihant. Looks like BMW is gaining share rapidly at least on T-BHP now!!!!

But is your dealer allowing for tyre switch as mine clearly told me that I'll lose warranty.

Secondly, there are also several safety benefits of RFTs which IMO outweigh the possible improvement in ride quality which incidently is not as hard as its made out to be especially if your going to be driving yourself.

You don't need to. The ride with RFTs on the F series BMWs is just fine.

Please confirm the month of manufacturing before you book. It is possible that this car is of 2012. But at the same time, 30 seems to be a good deal. If you know the month of manufacturing, then at least you can take an informed decision.

Agree with Akshay. No need the change to tubeless tyres in the F30.

Re: BMW 320d: Joy comes home, My ultimate 3

A quick trip to Agra with the sole purpose of driving on Yamuna Expressway has seen the odo climb to 2000 kms quickly. The experience on the expressway was mindblowing and I am still grinning while typing. This car is just INSANE! The ease with which it picks up speed can put you to surprise even after having driven it for a fair bit. The engine noise doesn't climb up with the speed and probably the 8 speed gear box is to be applauded here as the car keeps cruising under 3k rpm regardless of whatever imaginable speeds you can driver it at. The steering is rock solid and sitting inside you just feel so confident about the car. It was an extremely tough thing to keep the car within the speed limits. I really feel with the currently sparse traffic, they should increase the speed limit of the expressway to 120 kmph. The best part about this bloody machine is that the ease with which it climbs from 60kmph to 80 kmph, it shows the same ease while going from 160-180 kmph. There is absolutely zilch lag or strain from the engine in doing that. A pic on the expressway:

Meanwhile yesterday took the delivery of my friend's 320d baseline, Havana colour. I still maintain that Imperial Blue looks the best!

Re: BMW 320d: Joy comes home, My ultimate 3

Couple of pics from our morning drive in the current amazing Delhi weather for a quick bite of yummy Alo parathas with white butter. For the first time experienced the manual mode since the car has crossed the 2k km mark I had marked for engine run in. As a result now we could freely rev it and redline it. Till now I used to mock Sameer that manual mode is useless as Sports in itself is so much fun and crazy fast that why would anyone want to take the headache of shifting gears manually. But boy was I wrong!
The manual shift makes the sports mode look sluggish! It is the mode to use when you really want to experience all those 180+ horses. One can shift into manual mode while the car is at standstill or while on the move and the car automatically starts showing you the current gear engaged and you can work your way up or down from there.
It can go insanely quick and starting from the front on red lights is a whole new level of fun now. I still need to slightly get used to driving it in manual but hoping to master it soon.

Few pics of the car parked at the dhaba:

Re: BMW 320d: Joy comes home, My ultimate 3

Time for some car Pampering

So after completing 2000 kms and 2 months, finally took the car to 3M in gurgaon. Was very happy with there service while getting my Innova cleaned and hence decided its the best place for the BMW. Took my father along to show him how a car wash should be performed and the difference between this and the regular Rs 200 water wash that is available at fng everywhere. And he was mighty impressed with the whole set up of 3M and there work quality. Got the car foam washed and waxed and at the same time bought there annual external detailing package for approx 11k + taxes ( saved some 3-4k in total) which includes 2 regular foam wash, 1 foam wash + waxing ( which I used yesterday) and 2 advanced detailing sessions. Overall the prices are not very steep and look reasonable to me. The owner also promised me to wax the car for free even during the next foam wash.

Also thinking of getting the paint protection film for the bumpers and side view mirrors atleast. Would cost me around 22K for the same. Should i opt for it? Still confused.

Here are the pics:
The car before the wash:

They vacuum the car first, clean the engine bay and then finally do the washing followed by the application of foam and then another wash:

Finally the car was brought out and then properly dried and finally waxed. I was really impressed with this part as they specially used blowers to dry out the parts not easily accessible like the around the front grills, all the creases, front fog lamp area etc.

Have you got the Paint Sealant treatment done for the car? Since the car is new I advice you to get it done for better results and shine for longer duration.

Does that annual package have that mentioned?

Regarding the PPF, I strongly advise as it will keep the car clean and shiny after highway travels where stone-hits are common, dust, muck will all be settling on the film which will be easy to clean and not damage the paint. I know the cost is step but results are beautiful in the long run.

I have got it done on my car on the all 4 door edges and door handle cups.

Anurag.
