re: The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold

When I was doing the EGR Cleaning Semi-DIY, post removing the engine cover, I saw a stamp of FPT on the engine block, was curious so googled to realise it is Fiat Powertrain Technologies.

Curious in me searched online and also asked my MASS for what that means and if it is Fiat powertrain technologies, then the engine is manufactured by Fiat.

In the conversations later on, BHPian Leoshashi sent me an image from his MASS when he had visited where on notice was pasted on the board. It said about the engine supplies and indeed my guess was correct.. My Swift's engine was Fiat manufactured (Thank you buddy for clearing my doubt on that stamp and manufacturing of the engine).

The FPT stamp on the engine block of my car

Circular sent by BHPian Leoshashi

As confirmed by the engine number of my car, it is a Fiat one.

Got some free time so did some basic cleaning of the vents as much as I could. Also cleaned the blower too!

Though it not a complete cleaning, I am thinking to visit 3M for A/C duct foam cleaning for a complete result.

This has been known for quite long. Fiat has licensed their diesel engine for Suzuki and also for Tata. Some of the variants of Tata Indica sports fiat engines. It is also the same engine being used in Fiat's own Punto.

Good to see your car shining like a brand new car even after the accident.

Taking the opportunity, why didn't you go for newer bumper & grills?

I wanted to retain the OEM look.

Would be selling the car off in another 10-30K kms so didn't want any effect on resale value.

I am planning and convincing dad for S-Cross 1.6L Alpha. He doesn't like the car and considers both the car and the engine a Flop in the Indian market.

What I am sure of is, no more cars that have the 1.3L DDiS would replace my Swift. I am honestly tired of the engine now. No fault in the engine, but tired of having 3 cars in the garage (Ritz, Swift and Ertiga).

Hi Anurag
so has the swift completed 100000kms, when do you intend to replace it, IMO yoou should take up your ertiga now rather than going for a new car or should go in for a diesel automatic like the vento, Believe me there's a sea of difference between the japs and germans, you can also look at the base octavia if you're looking at the s cross.

Quoting my own post from above:

I am very particular about this so Ertiga will NOT be the replacement.

I have made up my mind for either S-Cross 1.6L Alpha or XUV 5OO W10. Shying away from XUV as it is a waste for my single usage 85% of the time. So, S-Cross is the ideal replacement I can think of.

Vento, I really love that car now even though it is dated but reliability quotient is a prime factor do VW and their likes are out of the equation anyway.

Dad isn't happy with the S-Cross and the 1.6L engine. If he isn't convinced for replacement, then I retain my Swift.

I think the swift can easily go 2 lakh kms without much trouble, but it'll get very boring..
Try and test drive the germans for once, how about a Ford?
Or going the pre worshipped way for a jetta or octavia
I've driven the s Cross and honestly you'll again end up bored
XUV is over rated stuff!!

Agree here.

S-Cross actually isn't much of an upgrade for me except for the engine + Transmission combo and some new features that aren't there in my Swift ZDi.

Overall the interiors are more or less similar on both cars.

Why don't you try out the creta. It is much more successful then the S cross and has a nice auto tranny too. Though I agree it's 2L overpriced for what it offers but there's no competition at the moment. It may not be as good to drive as the S cross but I have heard good reports of Hyundai's 1.6.

Thanks for the suggestion buddy but a Hyundai will never come in my garage. Neither me nor Dad like the Creta.

The other way to put it is, we love Maruti Suzuki. If not Maruti it is Mahindra. No other manufacturer I am looking at however good the car be.

Did you take a TD of the XUV 500 and the S Cross 1.6? Which one do you prefer apart from the big car feel in XUV.

I have done TD'ing both these cars well. S-Cross has a slight edge when it comes to the engine, ride quality and overall drivers connection with the vehicle.
