I have been a silent reader of your ownership experiences on your Ritz, Swift, Ertiga & the Alto. Hence knowing the way you handle and maintain your cars, its a surprise to see you mention engine related work at 1.11 L kms. Please explain, we are very curious.

Thanks!

Nothing to worry guys, it is just usual parts replacement as per schedule.

Replacing the timing chain and arresting the leakage in the Oil Separator.

Timing Chain & Oil separator Update

Finally after a lot of postponing got the time to do the Timing chain change along with the associated parts, Compressor belt change plus arresting of the leakage at the oil separator which I was experiencing.

Got all the parts from the MGP distributor and got the work started. Took almost 6.5 hours to complete the job.

Since all the three works are interlinked, did the job at the same time.

re: The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold

Three days back while returning home from work at 7 am, observed a peculiar problem with the headlights.

Issue:

It was on high beam as I could it in the reflection on the vehicle opposite me. By habit, I look down to the headlight stalk and was to see that it is in 'OFF' position. Puzzled, frantically get down from the car and check the wiring for any abnormalities. None found so what I did was disconnected the headlight connectors so the battery isn't drained. Went home and started talking with BHPian interc00led regarding the issue.

He pointed out saying it could either be a sticky headlight relay or the headlight stalk unit may have gone bust and would need a change.

Solution:

Since I have the 100/90W bulbs with Hella Wiring harness, the relay is in-line and that is what I need to check for issues.

It is mounted securely under the air filter box so started opening the box to gain access to the relay and wiring.

Reconnected the headlight connectors to the bulbs and it was stuck at the high beam. Took the ratchet and gave a light tap on the relay. Bingo! it was back to behaving normal. This ascertained that the relay is what is faulty. Phew!!

Went to the local accessories dealer and got a Hella Relay and swapped it. All normal now.

Relay details:
  • 30A
  • 12V
  • 4 pin

re: The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold

Major Update

To keep the thread updated and have things in one single place, cross posting from the dedicated thread:

Quote:
The engine sound and feel is going downwards, there is a sort of knocking/'missing-like' sound when on medium load.

At idle or higher RPM no change in performance. FE is also the same as I used to get. Timely service etc but that sound at medium load made me think it could be the injectors that are clogged. Used Adon-D and System-D for 3 to 4 full tanks but no much use.

So decided to look up the internet to see if there is any solution. Browsing, I found couple of videos where Liqui Moly Diesel Purge was used for better results. I too thought of giving it a try and placed an order for it on Amazon.in (₹741 is what I paid)
Here's the detailed thread containing all information:

Gear/Transmission Oil Changed!!

Got hold of two tubes of the Liqui Moly additive from Land Rover Lab - Gear Oil Additive. Paid ₹485 per tube post discount. No dosage specifications mentioned so added 1 tube (20 g) per litre of gear oil.

Also took the opportunity to change the gear oil. Literally fed up after emailing, calling numerous shops for the availability of the 75W90 grade but not one soul could be of any help so in vain filled the 80W90 grade.

Oil filled is Castrol Manual API GL-4 80W90

Costs Incurred:

Gear Oil: 300 x 2.5 = ₹750
Gear Oil Additive: 485 x 2 = ₹970
Labour: Free

Total: ₹ 1,720.

The only downside(according to me) with 80w90 is hard shift(a bit) when cold, and the change interval is 20k kms. I know how hard you tried to get 75W90, but hard luck. Its better to run a slightly wrong grade than old oil.

Would love to know about your views about this additive once you cover 1000kms.

Shashi

re: The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold

Did a quick but short trip Hyderabad - Karim Nagar - Hyderabad which is 305 kms (Up and Down in total).

The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold-screenshot_20170624000401_01vert.jpg
Distance driven since Diesel Purge activity: ~ 900 kms.

Good Points so far
  • Good 4-lane highway with medium traffic so kept speeds maximum to 100 kmph with 100% A/C throughout the journey.

  • Car felt light and easy to respond to throttle inputs.

  • Earlier in 5th gear at 70 kmph, there was a slight hesitation which is no longer felt.

  • The Noise levels post 80 kmph were on the higher with all windows rolled up but this factor has come down by almost 40%. I mean it genuinely and I happy to be driving my car now even more.

  • Low end is better now as 2nd gear & 1000 RPM she pulls effortlessly. No issues now but earlier there was a slight jerk and hesitation. Good that is gone.

  • Max boost as per Torque PRO is at 18.9 psi consistent, earlier it was 16.9 - 17.1 psi

Neutral Point so far
  • Since the car's gearbox is running on the wrong grade of Transmission oil, (80W90 as opposed to the recommended 75W90, gear shifts are hard till the oil is cold. Once the oil is at operating temperature, the shifts are effortless and butter smooth ("Makkhan-like"). Planning to source 75W90 thanks to Leoshashi Sir. Will be changing the oil post 10K kms.

Bad Points so far
  • Vibration/judder at 2000 rpm as I faced earlier at 43,000 kms and 83,000 kms is back now at 1,20,000 kms almost which is at the interval of 40,000 kms. This is like some VW cheat software programmed by Maruti to judder automatically every 40,000 kms. Planning to open the clutch plates, reassemble the damn thing and see if things sort out. Not in mood to spend 3-5K on clutch plates.

  • Lower arm (right side) bush is almost torn and needs a change. Planning to change both the lower arms at the same time. (2.2K each side).

PS: Happy to be posting the 9000th post in my ownership thread.

re: The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold

After getting this data from an S-Cross owner, Costs of servicing shall go up by larger amount due hike in labour charges plus hike in GST too.

The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold-img20170629wa0044.jpg

Have decided not to visit MASS for servicing etc. Too much is the labour being charged for regular servicing.

Have bought this engine oil from 99rpm.com.

Name of the Oil: Petronas Selenia WR (Wide Range)
Grade: 5W40
Compatibility: ACEA B3/B4; API CF
Costs: ₹ 650 per litre

Sadly when I received and opened the package, found one of the three bottles leaking. Have shot an email to 99rpm guys, lets see if there is any resolution or no.

ODOMETER UPDATE - 1,20,000 kms done!

The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold-img_20170711_211741.jpg

Nothing much to report, car is running well now post Injector cleaning.

Will be doing the 1,20,000 service myself along with BHPian interc00led. I mean it will be a DIY service where I plan to do/change the following:
  • Engine Oil - Petronas Selenia WR 5W40
  • Oil drain bolt
  • Oil Filter
  • Engine Air Filter
  • Fuel Filter
  • Cabin Air filter
  • Coolant
  • Brake Fluid

Shall update the thread once I am done with it.
