That's too cheap to give your car a new look.

BTW, if you know, please tell if all or any of these can be changed without changing bumper:

* Grille Lower
* Grille Upper
* Bezel RH, LH
* Garnish RH, LH

Grille can be changed.

What is the Garnish and Bezel?

Is the Garnish - that silver 'L' shaped plastic around the fog lamp?

Garnish and bezels are plastic parts surrounding fog lights and chrome linings where DRLs should have been.

Ah then it is possible. Are you planning to do it?

Surprisingly the part costs are cheap too! What cost is not mentioned is painting costs so add 2-3K for bumper painting.

He's mentioned it as 2.5k plus service tax
My cars front bumper has a few broken clips so may be I'll get the new one whenever I change it. The parts cost is quite low compared to VW or Skoda.

No, the bumper has to be changed to fit in any of the above things

Oops! My bad.

Do enquire for these new parts but some MGP dealers may be a little hesitant to give buy mostly possible.

That's the only worry. Hopefully some of the more friendly one's in Bangalore may allow.

On another note,after looking at replacement cost for bumper,I wonder if I should continue the zero depreciation policy on my car when I renew it next.

I think that might not be possible without changing the bumper. See the picture and share your opinion.

Good point and good observation. The gap between the headlight and the fog lamp is more in the offer model Swift as compared to the newer generation.

The Silver 'L' shaped DRL mimicking strip has caused this difference in bumper design elder both are similar.

So one has to change the whole bumper and these parts to get the look along with painting costs. Total damage 4-5K.

To me IMO, the older design is better as compared to new one with that 'L' shaped one. Just my opinion.

Re: The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Suzuki Swift ZDi (Torque Blue) - 30K kms up!

Was free since afternoon so thought of doing a small DIY to help my car and my lungs breathe better.

Yes, I did clean the Air Filter and the Cabin Air Filter in my Swift myself. Not that it is anything ground-breaking though.

Force Tool kit - Paid 900 bucks:

Comes in a neat packing and keeps it tight:

The Box:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Air Filter:

Tools required to open the Air filter box:

Air filter (Top view):

Air Filter (Engine Side):

Flies etc trapped (Engine side):
The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold-20150219_170452.jpg

With some light tapping, the dust entrapped by the filter:
The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold-20150219_170944.jpg

Tools required to open it is actually a simple star screw driver (Size - No.: 2)

From the tool Kit:
  1. Rachet Handle
  2. Extension Bar
  3. Philips Head No.: 2

I travel through very dusty roads which make my car look dirty the every day it is washed. Hence the state of the air filter!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) Cabin Air filter:

Top view (Prior cleaning):

Indication to help fit the filter the correct way after cleaning:

Cabin air Filter in its casing:

Though the filter was greyish-black, the entrapped dust quantity was much lesser. The mild tapping did get rid of some of the dust though.

The car being at 37.8K kms now with 2.2K kms for the scheduled service where these filters will be changed.

DIY - MAF Sensor Cleaning

Inspired by this thread by Ajmat Sir, I too did make time to do the DIY for my Swift ZDi:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...ml#post2047511

NOTE: Though there was nothing wrong with my car for me to perform this DIY. It was just to see how is the condition of the sensor after 1.2 years and 39K kms on the odometer. No low performance or smoke or low FE being experienced.

Things required to perform the DIY (Picture below):
  1. Zip Lock bags - 3 no's
  2. Flat head No.: 7mm
  3. Philips Head No.: 2
  4. Flank Socket: 10mm
  5. Extension Bar
  6. Ratchet Handle
  7. IPA - 100% (preferably as it dries up faster) --- 1 Litre is enough IMO.

The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold-tools.jpg

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Procedure to perform the Cleaning of the MAF is as follows in 3 broad steps:
  1. Removing MAF for cleaning,
  2. Cleaning the MAF.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Removing the MAF for Cleaning:
  • Clean the area around the air filter box, MAF and the Air intake pipe (rubber hose);
  • Remove the electric coupler;
  • Using the Philips head 2, open the screws holding the air filter box;
  • Once the air filter box is opened, use the flat head screw-7mm to loosen the clamp;
  • With the clamp now loose, Detach the rubber air intake pipe;
  • Using the Flank socket 10mm, unscrew the two bolts holding the MAF sensor. MAF is now free and ready for cleaning.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2) Cleaning the MAF:
  • Once the MAF is removed, first thing to do is - wipe it gently with a damp cloth to remove the dirt/dust before cleaning it with IPA.
  • Put the MAF in the Zip-lock pouch, pour in the IPA.
  • Lock the pouch and shake it gently to loosen the dirt trapped by the mesh;
  • Let it rest for 10-15 mins. Remove the sensor from the pouch and collect the IPA used first time, add some fresh IPA and let it sit for 2-3 minutes;
  • Remove the sensor from the IPA bath and let it dry completely.

NOTE:
  • Do NOT keep the ignition in ON position or the car idling when removing the MAF. Just remove the key from the key hole.
  • Be careful as to NOT put the MAF back after removing it from the IPA bath.

-- Was actually scouting for CRC Air Senso clean spray that is made for cleaning the MAF sensor. Neither I could get it online nor the shops so used with 100% IPA.

Did check the ECU for any error codes or any such indication but good that nothing came up.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I'll let the pictures do the talking:

Intake pipe - Engine side:

Air Filter box:
The story of a Blue Streak a.k.a Maruti Swift ZDi (Torque Blue). 1,20,000 km up & now sold-filter-box.jpg

*I had 1.5 litres actually of 100% IPA so used 500 ml for every wash. Collected the same after using it to see how much dirt/dust is entrapped.

PS: Engine bay is dirty actually thanks to the route I take which makes the car look dirty within no time after a wash. Took a lot of effort to wipe that out today during the MAF sensor drying time.

Seems you're being absolutely free(Read: Jobless) these days

Anyways, we all know that the interior lighting we get in Indian Swift is pure amber everywhere whereas for the international version, it is white and blue.

As even I'm getting some free time these days, that amber light caught my attention and started bugging me.

Now, I want to change the dashboard and interior lighting of my Swift to White and blue. Can any one help me out with this please? Is it possible at all?

Those halogen bulbs should be the 12V W5W type. Replace it with W5W LEDs of any color. The power draw would be a lot lesser but there shouldn't be any bulb-out/bulb-fused warning.

Thanks dude. But, is it a DIY thing? Replacing the lights in the dash, near the AC controls etc, do you think we can do it in a couple of hours?
