Re: 2014 Crystal Black Pearl Honda City VX-D - A new member in the family

In June 2015, the City i-DTEC was put to task for a 13-day 5300 kms roadtrip to the vale of Kashmir and it performed flawlessly. It exceeded my family's expectations and save for a puncture, there were absolutely no problems with the car. It exceeded our expectations because we drove the car over some really bad terrains near the Bandipora region, near Yusmarg and some bad patches near Sinthan Top, Rajouri and Aru.

A travelogue will be put up soon, but till then here are a few pictures of the car in the beautiful and serene environs of Kashmir:

Many Congratulations for the City and welcome to Team-BHP.

The travelogue will be put up soon, I could not commit much time to the travelogue as I had been travelling all over the Western Ghats to enjoy the monsoon showers. Please bear with me, I shall post the travelogue at the earliest.

The link to the Kashmir travelogue: Link

This trip really highlighted the strength of the diesel Honda.

Re: 2014 Crystal Black Pearl Honda City VX-D - A new member in the family

Sorry for the long hiatus in updating this thread. The problem is I have spent very limited time with the car in the last 18-20 months so could not update this thread regularly. The car is used by my parents at my hometown and has done 45000 kms approximately in the 40 months of ownership.

The City has done some short trips in the meantime - once to Kolkata and once to Varanasi plus weekend trips to Jamshedpur, Daltonganj, Bokaro and Dhanbad.

Some updates :

1. Dashboard rattling has raised its ugly head. Need to get it fixed asap.
2. Tyre bubbles and cracks on the stock MRF tyres. Recently the tyres were upgraded to 195-section Yokohama Earth 1 tyres.
3. Its a pain to maintain a black car, swirl marks are an irritant. A thorough detailing job is due post-monsoons.

The City will be put to task starting 22nd May on a week-long roadtrip to Bhutan and Dooars. I will share more updates and pictures once I spend time with the car during this roadtrip.

Re: 2014 Crystal Black Pearl Honda City VX-D - A new member in the family

Our Honda City was put to task for a 2500 kms roadtrip from Ranchi to Bhutan and back. The dashboard rattle issue was fixed before this trip so there have been no niggles or issues thereafter. The City has so far been extremely frugal thanks to the i-DTEC motor under the hood.

Some pics of the car from our Bhutan trip. A detailed travelogue will be posted soon.

Re: 2014 Crystal Black Pearl Honda City VX-D - A new member in the family

3 years 9 months, 53000 kms

I got an opportunity to spend a few days with our City during the Diwali break so took her to a few places around Ranchi. The car covered McCluskiegunj, Patratu Valley, Jamshedpur, Khunti and Chaibasa in about a week's time.
  • The 195 section tyres have made a significant improvement in terms of ride and handling, however fuel efficiency has gone down marginally.
  • The dashboard rattle issues never reoccurred, despite driving over some really bad stretches.
  • The struts are holding on well and there are no signs of leakages. The clutch is good for another few thousand kilometres. However, the battery is due for a replacement soon.
  • The right-side tail-lamp and fender got a bruise thanks to a metal rod. Needs some TLC soon.
  • No other issues with the vehicle as of now, so far our City has proved to be fairly reliable barring one or two niggles which were resolved with the help of the authorised service centre.

Few pics of the Honda City, clicked in and around Ranchi :

Re: 2014 Crystal Black Pearl Honda City VX-D - A new member in the family

6 years, 90000 kms

The City will complete 6 years next Tuesday and has clocked a little over 90000 kms as I type.

Apart from the general servicing (which has been quite a reasonable affair), there have been no expenses incurred on the car. It is still running the stock suspension and clutch, which is a little surprising to me. I have proactively taken the car twice for inspections to check if there are any leaks from the struts here and there. But everything is working just perfect.

We had initially planned to replace the City in early 2020 with a compact SUV (Seltos or similar) but since the car is doing well and the fact that it has already depreciated in value to a considerable extent, we decided to hold on to it for another year or so.

Fw pictures of the car clicked last month -

Re: 2014 Crystal Black Pearl Honda City VX-D - A new member in the family

It has been a little over 8 years and 2 months since we bought the City. The odo reads a handsome 1,15,000 kms and there are no issues to report. The car has been doing duty steadily without any hiccups. General servicing from Basudeb Honda Ranchi has been pretty satisfying with respect to workmanship as well as cost of ownership.

The City is running its third set of tyres presently and is still on stock clutch and suspension. The transmission fluid was changed recently as part of the periodic service schedule.

Some pictures clicked around Ranchi during my visit in end 2021.

Wonderful ownership log //M. Your City has been to some awesome destinations. My Linea's age is quite similar to your City albeit with less kms on odometer(approaching 74K). While planning my maiden Kashmir trip, I went through your travelogue and added Pir Ki Gali at last moment. It was one of the best experience of my trip.

Here's to munching more kms

Thank you abhi_tjet. Glad that you took the Mughal Road during your trip, it really is a slice of history and offers so much more than the usual Srinagar highway. The fact that it sees minimal traffic makes it even more special. Hope to see a travelogue from your end soon !

Our City has been heavily restricted to urban conditions since quite a while now, with just short trips around Ranchi. But it has been a pleasant ownership experience so far.

I however hate the cost cutting done by Honda. The NVH levels are extremely poor and the door pads and trims feel flimsy at best. It is a little more evident with age. I am using a Jetta TDI which has done over 1 Lakh kms in NCR as my daily driver. The Jetta feels so much more mature. I know it is one segment above the City but every component on the Jetta including the interior trims feel sturdy and built to last. I have used a Vento in the past and that felt way better built than the City as well. Its sad that this segment has lost the well built cars like the Vento / Linea. Hope the Slavia and Virtus provide as much, when it comes to good build quality.

Hey //M, I posted a travelogue a while ago on my Kashmir road trip. It was not as good as yours though.
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/trave...iat-linea.html (My maiden road-trip to Himachal and Kashmir | Fiat Linea)

Honda lost the way in between to become mass manufacturer somewhere in 2013/2014. The City 5th generation is better I suppose in terms of build quality as updated by many members in forum.

Slavia and Virtus have big boots to fill. Vento/Rapid were at least supported by their manufacturers with various upgrades over their lifetime unlike Linea which turned out to be sales dud(due to FCA’s apathy) despite being a good solid product.

Looks like I missed this travelogue. Just went through it, lovely detailing and beautiful clicks of the valley. Two places which I revisited through your pictures - Pari Mahal in Srinagar and Pir Ki Gali. I have always thought of Pari Mahal as an underrated place to visit in Srinagar. The sunset overlooking the Dal Lake is scintillating. Pir Ki Gali, ofcourse, is a stunning paradise in itself. Loved the snowed out background and the Linea in the foreground.

I recently went to Karnal as a shotgun in a 5th Gen City and yes it felt better than the 4th Gen in terms of touch and feel. I'm having high hopes with the Slavia and Virtus as well. We might be in the market to replace our City soon and the Virtus and Kushaq are two probable contenders at the moment.

Re: 2014 Crystal Black Pearl Honda City VX-D - A new member in the family

A little over 9 years old with around 1,30,000 clicks on the odo so far, the City is doing a wonderful job of fuss-free commute in and around Ranchi. The car has been less demanding so far, just periodic service and routine maintenance keeps things in check. Although the interiors are not plush and the build quality doesn't feels robust, however it feels like the City can chug along happily for another 1,30,000 kms without any hiccups.

I was in Ranchi briefly and enjoyed a nice early morning drive. Sharing a couple of pics here -
