Purple Cheetah's audio unit - commonly known as 'silver box' - has been replaced under warranty today.

The music system and/or navigation used to reboot itself with a bang all of a sudden, giving a jolt to me and other occupants, since April 2015. During the 30 k km service, the silver box was reset, so was I told. If it happened again, the entire unit will have to be replaced, I was informed. But everything was fine, until my drive to Uttarakhand, when the system rebooted itself 5 times in 5,614 km within 15 days. During the recent 40 k km service, I raised this topic. My RM told me that they ordered a new silver box and I would be informed after its receipt from the vendor. Yesterday, the RM called me and confirmed the receipt of the unit. I took P. Cheetah to India Garage, Guindy, Chennai today at 9:45 am . They took 2 hours to replace the unit. After completion, I tested the reverse camera, navigator, music system, radio, etc. Everything is fine. But, contrary to my expectation, the new unit has retained the same old MMI maps of version 8.0. Even the favourites are retained. Only my phone's pairing has vanished. Regarding the complaint of automatic self-rebooting, only the time knows the answer.

Purple Cheetah got new registration number plates in an attractive font without IND and hologram, called plain Jane German plates with standard frames from Canvas Ink, costing ₹ 1,150 and ₹ 650 for each pair respectively. Shipping was free as I had ordered one rear plate + frame for my Thunderbird 500 too.









While I fixed the rear frame and plate easily, the front one was tricky as the bumper and the number plate housing are curved, and because of that, the frame's locks did not stay for long. I and my BIL continued our efforts today. My BIL thought that the protruding screw heads were the villains, took them to a workshop and got them grounded and thinner. But, the frame and plate did not budge! Ultimately, we used Fevi kwik, costing ₹ 5 to seal the locks on the frame.

Now, P. Cheetah's name boards look nicer with the screws hiding inside!

P. Cheetah brought us safely and comfortably to our Bangalore Basaveswara Nagar home at 4:09 am today. We had left our Chennai Royapettah home at 10:25 pm last night. Home-to-home non-stop night drive in less than 6 hours. P. Cheetah crossed 40 k km shortly after Krishnagiri, but I could not click a photograph because of high truck traffic on NH7.



I found a newly-opened Hotel Saravana Bhavan - original, genuine, authentic and not fake - on the LHS, while driving from Chennai towards Bangalore, a few km before Kanchipuram turn-off.

Nice one Sir. I was very disappointed when they shutdown the restaurant Deepam near Vellore. The Saravana Bhavan gives the option of having an earlier meal/snack

Last night, I and P.Cheetah met some fellow-BHP'ians and their cars for the first time on NH 7; after a tasty dinner at IPC, drove upto KA-AP border, took a U turn just before the toll plaza and returned home.

Today, P. Cheetah visited Sireesh Auto at Rajajinagar and got its maps updated to version 9.0 from 8.0. I was charged ₹ 314 for the labour. All my favourites saved in the navigator are intact. I could not get this update done at India Garage, Guindy, Chennai as I used to get some excuse or the other every time. Also got the second row 12V charger's blown out fuse replaced with a new one.

Awesome sir! Do post some feedback about the new POIs or anything visible you see in the maps. Any changes in UI/UX or just pure maps database upgrade?

Earlier, it was showing version 8.0, and now, 9.0. As of now, I don't find any other difference.

Coming to the software updates, now, P. Cheetah displays both the external and internal temperatures on the infotainment bottom panel.

It is like spot the difference My car has this update already then, because it shows both temperatures in my car from day one. I was seeing if there are any major difference in this upgrade so that I can ask to update tomorrow when I leave my car for second service.
