re: Toyota Innova Experience. EDIT: 10 years, 2,56,000 km up and SOLD! Good to see another Innova admirer. As of today I own a POLO, a WagonR and an Ecosport, In previous years when I had heavy usage I have gone through two Innovas, the first 2005 model did 190000km before being sold off in 2009, the purchaser was our driver who re registered as a taxi and had done 450000km before selling off. The second bought in 2008 did 160000 km before being sold off in 2012.
The first car came with good year tyres which were changed at 70000km, brake pads followed at the next service 80,000km. The second set of Bridgestones lasted another 80000 km, they were changed during the 150,000 km service when I changed timing belt, brake pads rear brake shoes (not worn but hardened) shock absorber bushes (never new only bushes can be changed in this era), clutch plate & pressure plate seat covers and got a few minor scratches touched up. Tyres would have lasted another 10-15 K. Km, but I did not want to push them as it was end of summer, and we were expectfewing a few long trips in the rains.
The second car came with bridge stones as stock, and lasted really long a full 90,000 km. Just a month after the tyre change we met with an accident when a agricultural tractor suddenly took a U turn in front of me, my driver had braked from about 80 down to about 50 at the time of impact. The crumple zone worked as designed, and all of us inside were un hurt. All work was done at DSK toyota, and bill came to about 1.5 Lakh, of which I had to shell out about 30,000, and rest was covered by insurance. I made payment while collecting the car and was re embersed by New India Assurance in about 10 days.
Just before the 1,10,000km service I spotted a few white spots in the bonnet, and saw that coolant level was dropping by about 300 ml after a drive of 500km. The were culprit was the waterpump, which may have taken a slight impact inthe accident.
Just before the 120,000 km service I noticed clutch slip, and had the clutch changed, next two services were routine, and I had the timing belt and front brake pads changed at 1,50,000 km. A few days later there was another minor accident, when the truck ahead of me braked hard, and the one behind us hit us and pushed us upto the truck ahead. A Idiot had run across the truck ahead of us, and had been hit just before the truck halted, the fool had only minor bruises, he got up, and on seeing the pileup he had caused just ran off somewhere. This repair cost me about Rs 80,000. At this time I decided to stop extensive travels and take contracts only near my home, stop motor cycling and use a smaller car. I myself had a injured shoulder which was troubling me. The Innovas last bank instalment was also due in a few days, considering these factors I decided to sell off, and go in for a Polo.
All said and done the Innova(s) gave me long service without any trouble from the cars themselves. If the new platform Innova due in 2016 comes with an AT, I will replace my Polo for an Innova again.
