Anyway i will keep a watch on coolant level till next service

Mine looks like this in cold condition, that too not topped up since 8 months.
Attachment 1518994
Better get checked and confirmation on top-up. Although, it should not cause any problems.
Thanks for the details.
I was monitoring coolant level in reservoir from last 2-3 months. Bought a liter Super Long Life Coolant from Toyota and did few top-ups.
Every 200-300km, I could see a marginal drop in the coolant level in reservoir tank and there were some whitish residues near drive belt side. According to SA, this residues are because of the leak from water pump while its running.
Anyway asked him to go ahead with work since the drop was evident. Replaced Water Pump(Rs: 8384+tax) and the coolant(Rs:2548+tax), cost me Rs: 14896 including labor.

The first major expense apart from Tyres and battery change in 56000km and 5 1/2 years.

Thanks for information.

But has SA provided any concrete explanation on why such a leak occurred at all? I have not heard or seen in known Innovas till date. Additionally, 56k/5yrs is too premature a time for such a thing.

Even I haven't heard of such an early water pump failure. Got to know from couple of people that, they have changed it around 1 lac or 1.2 lac in odo.
Asked my SA for the failure details and he doesn't have much idea, told me, possibly gasket issue. And they won't do any water pump repair which I heard from other people as well.

Thanks

No so good news to share with coolant drop issue.
Even after changing Water Pump I am still seeing coolant drop in reservoir. But the whitish residues near belt is not there after changing Water Pump.
Last time I have asked them to do pressure test to identify any leak in coolant system, looks like they haven't done any tests and just replaced Water Pump.

Look at below pictures in cold condition( All the pictures were taken when car was idle for 2 days or more)

After changing Water Pump

After Running 1400km

After Running 2000km

After Running 3000km

Anyway, will be sending a mail to Toyota with these details.

Thanks

Thanks.
Thanks kavu75. I could see the pictures now. 10 days back I faced a similar issue when the coolant reservoir of my TUV3OO suddenly became empty. Almost all the coolant had drained out. Before it could lead to a major catastrophe, the root cause was identified and fixed. The culprit was the leaking joint of radiator hose near the engine.

I have used two innovas till date. First one for 1,90,000 and second one for 1,64,000. Both had the same issue whitish splatters due to coolent being thrown by the fan when running was just under 1.5 Lakh km.
I guess Toyota should treat the waterpump as a consumable item, and recommend its replacement at the 1,20,000 km service.

Hey,

The just wanted to ask did the service guys change the coolant after replacing the coolant pump? If that is the case then I see no reason to worry as the photos at 2000km and 3000km are almost the same, meaning the coolant level has settled down after some running. I would say wait for 5000 km mark and then take a call. Because it is common for the coolant level to drop once it's entirely flushed. Happened in my friend's and a few other member's new Thar too.

I haven't faced any issues regarding the coolant tank yet and sorry am unable to take any photo's because my car's engine is always hot during the day due to frequent use!

Coming to my car it has crossed 2,10,000 km mark a few weeks back. It's now reaching the 2,13,000 km. Every thing hunky dory except the car's cooling has become lower especially at idle. Me thinks the AC Compressor pulley/bearing has gone bust. Will have to get it checked out.

A pic of the odo reading I took few weeks back:

Had been for an exhibition to Germany. Got to drive the BMW X5 as a rental.

Toyota Innova Experience. EDIT: 10 years, 2,56,000 km up and SOLD!-image2.jpg

Had booked a 3 series for my drive from Munich to Cologne which is approx 600km, but that wasn't available so they upgraded my reservation to the X5. Amazing mammoth of a car. Mask speed like anything. Since I was travelling on the autobahn and not breaking any rules hope I am allowed to add this pic:

First get your Ac serviced ie cooling coils dismantled washed and refitted, a fine layer of dust cakes on the surface of the fins. This reduces air to fin contact area, and subsequently the cooling. At the same time the condensor coil should also be washed thoroughly.
If this does'nr work, your compressor pumping has reduced.

Sincerely,
Rahul Rao

Thanks for the updates.
They have changed the coolant while replacing Water Pump. Your observation is correct, from 2000km to 3000km the level remains almost same, very small drop.
Even before changing Water Pump I saw similar behavior. At that time I have topped up coolant few times. And after running 500-800km, the coolant level dropped to (close to) min level again. That's why I took the vehicle to service center and replaced Water Pump as per their suggestion.
I have sent these details to Toyota 2 days back.
My car is getting due for 60,000km service and will check with them during the service if I am not getting any response from Toyota by then.

BTW, not able to see the pictures you have shared.

re: Toyota Innova Experience. EDIT: 10 years, 2,56,000 km up and SOLD!

Update:
The Innova has crossed 2,18,000km. The tyres have about 10,000km worth life in them. The AC seems to require a quick service too. Other than that the car has no issues whatsoever.

New SUV Update:
After almost 7 years the Innova has got a companion to share it's workload with. Yesterday evening I took delivery of my White Toyota Fortuner 4x4 MT.
Will put up a seperate thread for it after sometime to share my experience with it. For now uploading some pictures of the same.

Congratulations dean5545 on your latest acquisition. Awesome beast and an excellent upgrade.

Out of curiousity, why not go for the automatic, since you have to face the traffic on a daily basis? This car will be chauffer driven or self?

Thanks,

re: Toyota Innova Experience. EDIT: 10 years, 2,56,000 km up and SOLD!

2,20,000km update:
Sent the car for it's 2,20,000 km service last week. Got the engine oil changed. The drive belt had developed some cracks so got that replaced, it costed around Rs.4,000. That's costlier than the timing belt too.
Tyres:
One tyre had lost all it's treads and caused severe vibration at speeds above 100 kmph, after removing the tyre got shocked seeing it's condition. Replaced it with the stepney.

Toyota Innova Experience. EDIT: 10 years, 2,56,000 km up and SOLD!-img_6171.jpg

Later I got new tyres installed. All 4 tyres were having very little thread.
Installed my third set of Michelin XM2+ in stock size i.e. 205/65 R15.These are the 5th set of tyres on my car. The order is as follows: Goodyear GT3(stock)>Bridgestone B390>Michelin XM2+>Michelin XM2+>Michelin XM2+.

Now the only thing pending is to get the car's A/C serviced.

A picture of both my cars.

Hey thanks for your wishes man!
Regarding the Automatic vs Manual transmission I had driven the Endeavour as well as the new Fortuner Automatic they both lacked a sense of driver involvement which I knew would be definitely there in the manual(didn't drive one till I got mine delivered!)
And yea it will be chauffeur driven in those traffic situations so saves me the trouble of having to drive a manual in traffic.
