Magic of 1.6 TDI

As reported earlier on this thread, the 3rd 15K kms has been slow, as much of our travels have been overseas. So I wanted to get some good drive on my GT and planned a Munnar trip.

The drive was fantastic and the GT lived up to its badge.

The highlight of the holiday was some stonking FE. With a light foot and some coasting along the beautiful NH49..

...1.6 GT TDI could deliver this:

What is even more astounding is the sheer pace that this little hatch is capable of, and that remarkable stability at such speeds.

By far, the best thing that I have bought with my money:

Superb click of the TDI that!! And if this is the FE with the upsized tyres and wheels (I know you are on 205's unless that is changed now), imagine the capability of the engine.

Thank you Abhinav, and yes the GT is still on 205/55 R15 rubber, and doing pretty well with that

I recently got to drive the A3 35TD and did not get a chance to try out the S mode. But when I did floor the pedal in the D mode, the acceleration was awesome.
And I am really not trying to exaggerate here, but that "Scary Thrust" that the 1.6 GT TDI gives was still not there.

Considering such observations, I have a very strong feeling that the only upgrade that will suffice me would be the 320D...which is still a long way off though

42 Months & 50K Kms

After exactly 3.5yrs of blissful ownership, my GT completed 50K kms:

I had installed Kenda Komet tires on my car the day I bought it, and they lasted for the whole 50K kms, with even wear and tear. I wanted to swap them this time, and went for the the Yokos S-Drive:

Other than the usual servicing and maintenance, I have not changed anything else on my car. It still revs my heart out every time I floor the throttle. Not a single rattle yet, and I am sold on the German engineering for life now

wow great going there Vik. Germans engineer good cars its only customer relationship that lets them down. I think your updates from now on will be of real value. Since your car is already out of warranty it is going to be a real test now.

Wish you many more stress free and safe miles.

That is the Most Dreadful part of my ownership redcruiser, and I am really hoping and praying that I don't get to see the VW Service for anything else other than periodic service!!

Couldn't agree more with you on the fact that the product is just brilliant, but the 'After Sale Support' is just a polar opposite.

In my ownership, I have observed that the workmanship of the VAG Service has improved a bit, but their inventory has not even been looked at. Most of the parts are not available, which leads to excruciating wait times, especially for folks like me who only have one car for all purpose.

All said and done, I have no regrets of buying the 1.6 GT TDI, and if I had to do this all over again today,.....I'LL DO IT IN A JIFFY!!

WISH YOU AND ALL THE BHPians A VERY HAPPY, HEALTHY & FREE REVVING 2018

Your car looks too good for the age and running. Love the alloys.

Wish you many more years of happy ownership. Hope you do not have to depend on VW service much. Threads like this give confidence to go for German engineering. Keep us updated.

Thank you once again buddy.

The car is a true marvel in itself, and I have repeatedly cribbed that if VW A.S.S (in India) were 30% as good, Maruti would have had tough time selling their products.

The car will complete 4yrs in under 3 months from today, and it still gives me the silly grin every time the Tacho needle touches 2k!!

In other news, I got my car wrapped....

From 'G'e'T'z to VW Polo GT TDI! 3.5 years, 50,000 km up + Yokohama S drive tires! EDIT: Sold!-pic7.jpg

...on Photoshop.

I wish it was this easy to get the wrap and maintain it in the dusty/crowded/devastated Namma-Bengaluru.

As on date, the GT has completed ~53K kms, and like all other fellow 1.6GT owners, I pride on the fact that:

There was never a 1.6L Diesel, and most likely will never be one on Indian Mainstream Hatch back.

TIP: For all those folks who own a RED VAG car, just park your steads under a yellow sodium vapour street lamp, and observe the colour transformation: LOL

4 Years of Bliss - 55K kms

My GT will be 4 Years young on 19 June, the day I bought "HIM" home. The last time I had visited VW Mysore for the 45K service.
But this time around, with the infamous 'Diesel Gate Fix' looming, I was advised to stay away from any such nonsense by experts. So decided to service my car myself,..of course with some assistance from a known FNG.

Following were the parts changed:

Air Filter

This was the state of the old filter:

Oil Filter

Replaced the Old...

Engine Oil

As I am planning to service my car every 7K kms going forward, I decided to go with Shell Engine Oil this time:

The next engine oil will be Motul.

Coolant Topup

Had bought this coolant from VW a week before the DIY, so topped it up:

Completed a full body check along with the other necessary top ups. Reset the 'Service Reminder' at the following reading:

From 'G'e'T'z to VW Polo GT TDI! 3.5 years, 50,000 km up + Yokohama S drive tires! EDIT: Sold!-img_20180422_101208.jpg

I had timed the service for >1K run with family over a weekend. So it was a perfect testing ground. The car performed very well, and there were absolutely no issues.

MISTAKE

During the return leg, I was about 200 odd Kms from home, and the MID displayed a range of about 230Kms. With parents and wifey in the car, the AC blowers had to be ON the whole time.

So made the biggest blunder of filling in fuel at a small station for 500 bucks. there were no issues until couple of days when the the coil symbol started flashing, and the car went into the limp mode.

Called up Shibin, who suspected a heating coil issue, but suggested I get it checked by VW. Took the car to VW Rajajinagar, and got them to run a diagnostic, which returned error code P006. This pointed to a faulty 'Fuel Filter', Fuel Line, or 'Fuel Injector'.
Sourced the Fuel Filter from Sai Colorium, and got the Fuel Lines inspected. Changed the Fuel Filter, reset the codes using VCDS, and voila the car was back to normal.

Have covered over 1K kms since, and been observing for any issues. Fingers crossed, everything is fine and turbo-charged for now.

Couple of pictures to sign off:
