Re: 2014 Maruti WagonR VXi - Ownership Review

Adding one more picture taken today morning after last Sunday's detailing session. I have noticed that the vehicle doesn't attract much dust now. Earlier, the vehicle used to attract a lot of dust a within a couple of days after washing with ONR Wash & Wax. The picture doesn't do justice, probably due to my cellphone camera and lack of proper sun rays hitting the vehicle at the time of taking the photograph. Turtle Wax is worth a lot more than is made out to be. Not sure why people advice against it, although no reason is specified for the same.

I find that the wax has added warmth and depth to the paint. Not sure how long it will last, but applying this paste wax was a lot easier than is made out to be. Believe me just one coat of wax made a lot of difference to how the vehicle looks. Again the key is to apply as thin a layer as possible and buff off using a good quality microfibre cloth.

Tanked up the vehicle today. It took in 29.48 litres for a running of 442.2 kms. That works out to 15 kmpl. This is for 100 % city running with the aircon running for 65% of the time. The odometer now stands at 987 kms.

That's a decent mileage considering the erratic Chennai traffic.

In highways, you can realistically extract over 18 kmpl from this frugal K12 engine.

Re: 2014 Maruti WagonR VXi - Ownership Review

Did my first highway trip with the WagonR to Kerala during the last week of December. Did Chennai - Salem leg on an early morning drive. The car took in 18.78 litres of fuel for a distance of 336.2 kms. That works out to an FE of 17.9 kmpl. The aircon was switched off for the entire duration on this leg of the trip. The odometer stood at 1132 kms at the start of this trip. The lack of power is evident on highway trips. There is only so much a one litre engine can do without a turbocharger. You can cruise comfortably at 90 - 110 kmph on nice flat roads. The problem lies with the time it takes to regain those speeds after you slow down for some obstacle. This is where I miss the power of the K12M motor. I haven't tanked up after returning to Chennai, so I'll post the overall trip figures later.

Congratulations on such a fabulous upkeep of your Wagon R. I've recently got one for my wife, a passion red Stingray. It's a head turner of sorts. Plan to pen down my ownership experience in a short while.

Thanks for your wishes. A red Stingray is surely a head turner. In fact its my favourite colour on a Stingray. There are two Stingrays in my neighbourhood - one Grey and the other Red. Looking forward to your ownership review.

Re: 2014 Maruti WagonR VXi - Ownership Review

Finally tanked up the car today after returning from the KL trip. Took in a total of 45.19 litres (includes a couple of partial refills) for a running of 802.1 kms. This works out to a fuel efficiency of 17.74 kmpl. 70 % highway running and 30% city with aircon running for 50% of the time. Not bad I would say as it also includes some running in bumper to bumper traffic. Overall FE for the trip including running in KL towns stands at 17.8 kmpl. The odometer now stands at 2925 kms.

Re: 2014 Maruti WagonR VXi - Ownership Review

Tanked up the vehicle on Sunday afternoon, just before the fuel prices got hiked. Phew! The vehicle took in 52.15 litres of fuel for a running of 876.2 kms (includes a couple of partial refills). FE works out to 16.8 kmpl. 55:45 highway:city split. Approx 450 kms was a highway trip to Yelagiri, rest in city. Aircon was used for 50% of the time. Happy with the FE figures so far. Really dreaded when some owners reported around 11 kmpl figures. The odometer stands at 38xx kms now. 2nd service is due at the end of this month. Nothing much to report other than fogging issues in both headlamps.

Re: 2014 Maruti WagonR VXi - Ownership Review

Completed the 2nd free service on 28/02/2015 with the odo reading 3986 kms. Had reported fogging issues in both headlamps. They say they have tightened a few slots where the lamp is locked into the headlamp assembly. Need to check if the problem recurs. Another issue I reported was the ORVM's mirrors shaking at highway speeds. They have tightened the mirrors too. This seems to be a design defect, don't think much can be done here. What fun are these fancy motorized mirrors if they keep jumping all over the place. Never faced such issues in my 800 or Ritz (manual mirrors). The vehicle has become much more responsive to right foot inputs post this service. Expecting a drop in FE from now on. Bill amount was nil. Vehicle was washed and cleaned thoroughly. Overall happy with the way this service was handled.

Re: 2014 Maruti WagonR VXi - Ownership Review

The WagonR is a superbly practical vehicle. One of my relatives has it, and as you said, we were amazed by the amount of interior space, and the easy getting in-out of the car. One thing they could improve upon is having some more space behind the rear wheel. I see too many WagonR's on the road, with scratched/dented tailgates. Also, I love the colour that you chose, though it is rare; looks so much better than the silver colour (that is common on the roads)

Re: 2014 Maruti WagonR VXi - Ownership Review

Topped up the vehicle last Sunday. Petrol still retailing @ 63.35. No change for this fortnight. A 100 % city running of 223.3 kms burnt up 17.35 litres of fuel. That works out to an FE of 12.87 kmpl. This is the lowest I have got so far. Since it has come after a service, don't know how much fuel the service centre guys would have taken out for 'cleaning'. One bar has disappeared by the time the vehicle was returned to me after service with an additional 16 kms on the odo. Hence I'm taking these figures with a pinch of salt. Will wait till next refill to get a better idea on the in city FE.

Re: 2014 Maruti WagonR VXi - Ownership Review

Tanked up the vehicle today. Petrol is currently retailing at 62.83.
Usage Pattern - 100% city driving
Aircon usage - 85 %
Kms covered - 335
Litres consumed - 24.19
FE - 13.85 kmpl
FE is not bad considering the fact that quite a few kms were in bumper to bumper traffic and the extra load on the a/c thanks to the scorching summer. No issues to report as of now. Running as good as new. Odometer stands at 4369 kms now.

Hi Longhorn,

Thats a decent FE in city driving. My Waggy is 2 and 1/2 years old now and is running strong at almost 19000 KMs with no niggles. The FE that I get is around 14 to 14.5 kmpl, obviously depending on traffic patterns with AC on almost 90% of the time. My driving is on the Western express highway in Bombay which is notorious for traffic snarls which go on for several kilometers in the peak hours.
