Mahindra service is no longer affordable, its been that way for the past 2-3 years now.

1000.00 for hub greasing per hub is sheer daylight robbery. Get it done from outside the next time onwards. Wheel alignment too is done for 250-350 at good alignment stores where the ASC has charged you 700.00

Re: The Sherpa - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4x4

Happy third birthday to The Sherpa, hence an opportunity to update the thread. The Odometer stands at 47K kilometers.

There have been a few happenings in between that are part and parcel of owning Mahindra vehicles. Water was leaking from the windscreen and the service centre could not fix it after 3 visits. It led to a horrible experience during our Sikkim trip in August. I got so fed up that I posted on Facebook. It resulted in immediate calls from Mahindra and Mahindra as well as from the service centre. This time the service centre actually took the pain to find out the root cause of the water leaks. There were some rust spots behind the rubber beading and I was quoted 9K to fix it. I was shocked and told that I would take the vehicle back and get it done from outside. The manager was nice enough to negotiate and finally they did a brilliant job at 1/3rd of the original quoted price. On the flip side, they broke the windscreen while fixing the rust spots and did not even bother to notify me. Though I got a new windscreen free of cost, it would been nice to be kept informed. I got a rude shock while entering office the next day and found the car parking sticker gone!

Enough rants on not so big an issue. Coming to the 3 years of ownership, I am still a happy customer. Mechanically the vehicle has been absolutely superb. Did quite a few outstation trips this year, one being the 5000 plus kilometers Spiti trip -

Then the Sikkim trip amidst floods in North Bengal -

One of my friends gifted a pair of KC HiLiTES Spot Beams that he got for me all the way from USA. Nice birthday gift

A few pics with the lights -

Re: The Sherpa - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4x4 - 50000 Km update!

50000 KMs update

The Sherpa is running as good as new, no issues to report, not even minor ones. It has not been raining after the last workshop visit, so not sure if the water leakage issue has been fixed or not. It completed 50K kilometers in 3 years and 1 month, not something to boast about. But then my daily drive is less than 10 Kms, so not too bad either taking that into account.

Congrats on a nice milestone and wish you several happy multiples of such
milestones and (wishfully) no trips to the Service guys other than routine maintenance

Congratulations on the milestone! Yours is one of the few threads on the Mahindra Thar that actually makes one want to go out and buy it.

Why did you remove the bumper guard? I honestly think Sherpa looks better with it. How do the KCs compare to the Hellas?

Thanks you Paradiddle! I had removed the bumper guard long time back as I like the look of the front without any clutter. The guard was somehow blocking the grille. The KCs are far superior than the Hellas. These are spot beams and though I am not a big fan of auxiliary lights, I must say that these are really useful. But one should be careful about using these as they can easily blind oncoming traffic.

Great to hear that KkVaidya and wish you many more miles of hiccup free ride!

Those new lights in the front, sure do add more character to the Jeep. Looking awesome as ever. Not that it does not have a soul, already.

And a Happy New Year.!

Thanks asingh1977 and a Happy New Year to you as well. Here is a picture of the KCs lighting up a desolate mountain road -

@TechNomad, the handling of the Thar in stock form is quite good. Body is roll is less compared to other high GC vehicles due to less weight at the top. Ride quality is jittery, but I like to drive in the city as nobody comes nearby. I have never been scared of getting scratches, people maintain a safe distance I have been getting around 10 kmpl in city and 13 kmpl on the highways, but it depends a lot on the driving. I have got as low as 6 kmpl on the highway when I was in a bit of a hurry

Re: The Sherpa - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4x4

Happy 4th birthday to The Sherpa, cannot believe it is already 4 years!

Nothing much to update as the vehicle remains parked in Kolkata nowadays and is being occasionally driven to keep it running. The battery was changed in May this year when I went to Kolkata. My friend will be getting the vehicle serviced sometime in December in preparation for a long trip in January 2019.

Happy 5th birthday to The Sherpa! It has been an outstanding journey so far and hope it will continue. Last post was one year back. In between we made a trip to Meghalaya but did not update this thread. The link to the travelogue - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/trave...ster-thar.html (Mesmerising Meghalaya in a Duster & Thar)

Very heartiest congratulations to you and Sherpa for completing half a decade of togetherness :. Sherpa has been of the motivating factor for me while I brought my Thar 700 few months back. Wish you both more years of togetherness.
How many kms has it clocked till now?

Thanks a lot Abhik! It is very difficult to suggest Thar to anyone because it is not a very easy vehicle to live with. You need to compromise on a lot of things. But if you are able to overlook those flaws, it is a tremendous vehicle! Hope you have a good time with your Thar and not curse me later for motivating you to buy it
My Thar has clocked about 53k kilometers. It has been sitting idle for most of the time in the last 2 years.
