Very Good Report GTO.
And I love the C Class too.... I think current C is one the best looking Mercs from its stable.

Nice review. Personally, I would prefer the 3 series over the C. Wonder when that'll be out....

GTO - A very nice report.

The Speedo is to the left, and the rpm is to the right. Clearly a LHD arrangement.
Even Esteem has similar type of arrangement.

Regarding the performance i remember Rtech posting vids of C220 vs RS and boy the C220 creamed the RS 2/3. Imagine with Petes box what will happen, the C220 will just fly.

The C220 just flies as it is! 5 people in the car, loaded with heavy camera equipment and it still outran the C200K. The torque is amazing and the handling is pretty darn good! Too bad that traction control cuts in a bit too early though!

The 220 is a subtle but much needed update for the C180. Park the two alongside each other and the difference between the two are clearly apparent. Its an awesome personal luxury saloon car.

That sure will be something to look out for ! How about a test review with pete's box plugged into your car GTO? Or if Pete has the figures for the same it would be intresting to know the results the C220 gives.
Pete's Box+220 CDi=E280 eater!?

Rtech, I am sure the C220 is much better than the C200K, but i am not sure if there 3 lakh price difference between the two is justified! Yes it will give you better mileage and performance, at the same time you wont be saving 3 lakhs on fuel cost even if you drive several thousand kms a year.

P.S: The C-class is currently on a 1.5 lakh discount if someone is pumped to buy one after reading this review, Now is the time to get one!

the electronics in these cars are very sensitive to change so i wouldn't really recommend putting in any sort of modification unless done by experienced professionals, or unless you know what you're doing.

the cost to rectify a small problem runs pretty high.

The difference is actually 2.xx lacs, not 3 lacs. And the beauty is - The additional difference in EMI (since most people do opt for loans) is less than the actual saving per month on diesel. The C200K gives 6 - 7 kpl, while the C220 does at 11.5. At 1500 kms per month, the C200K will cost you about Rs.12,000 / month in fuel. For the same running, the C220 will cost you only about Rs.5,000. So if you consider a monthly calculation (EMI + Fuel costs), the C220 is cheaper to own. Add better resale value (Diesel mercs sell like hot cakes) and a far superior ownership experience to the equation, and you know the obvious answer.

The Petes box is on my list of to-dos. But only after my warranty expires.

Tend to agree with GTO. Petrol mercs lose like 50-60% value in 3 years or less. Diesel do not. I was very tempted to buy an immaculate C200K second hand instead of civic/corolla (which even was stretching my budget). But extremely high costs of ownership deterred me, even at 50% of cost of new merc.

Any particular reason why each service should cost a min of 35K? Is it just bcoz the service is provided by Merc?

How much diff would one expect if the same service was done elsewhere?

GTO, let us know the details of your upcoming service. Would be interesting to see.
