re: Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD - 1,20,000 kms & prowling

Very nice write-up, TheIndian!
Some serious mile-munching there.
And thanks for adding those service details. Also, good to see your trouble-free experience. It looks like Mahindra has fixed most of the initial issues/niggles.

This is so true. I have an SX4(2007) and I have been giving that to only one single mechanic at the MASS. His good work was recognized and he was promoted to be an RM about 4 years back. He's like my car's doctor. He knows the complete history of my car and assigns the right mechanic who has an expertise on that job. For my Ford Figo, I am still looking for someone who can understand my ride the way I do. Its been three years and 70000kms on figo and my search for the right doctor is still on.

Finally, got the delivery of a long pending purchase. Was not able to execute it for over a year now. Wish I had this while on Ladakh drive!

Great thread Indian, very happy to see the pics of those long drives and detailed reviews.
Have you made the 50K service as yet.

Could you please share more details of it. Hope to hear from you soon.

Many thanks

re: Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD - 1,20,000 kms & prowling

Giving the car for 50K kms service tomorrow (current ODO reading 51,800 kms)

Following is the "checklist" to be handed over to RM
  • 50,000 kms 6th service – standard service jobs as per M & M service schedule
  • Change Engine Oil & Engine Oil Filter
  • Check & clean Air Filter
  • Fuel Filter
  • Check Power Steering fluid, Coolant and all fluids.
  • Check & tighten Sump guard
  • Suspension re-torque
  • Bit more rolling and bumpy ride – Check Suspension
  • Replace Balancer bush bars
  • Check suspension, lower arm etc and tighten all nuts/ bolts
  • Check Middle row left side seat. Is the seat cushion displaced out a bit?
  • Fit rear left mud flap. It has become loose.
  • Check underbody thoroughly for any leak or damage….tighten all nuts / bolts
  • Clean HVAC Particle filter
  • Check & Clean front & rear Brake Pads / calipers
  • Check and adjust level of head light throw
  • Service reminder indicator reset
  • Check & replace rubber pedals of clutch & brake
  • Check & replace Wiper blades
  • DON’T DO ANY ADDITIONAL JOB LIKE AC FLUSH ETC. PLEASE ASK ME IF SUCH ITEMS ARE REQUIRED.
  • DON’T DO Wheel Alignment / Balancing

re: Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD - 1,20,000 kms & prowling

50K kms service done!!

The RM helped keeping my XUV's record intact - not spending overnight in a service station till now !!! And he did it against all odds - there were some 150 cars in the workshop that day (some backlog from previous 2 days as lots of staff was on leave). RM himself is fighting against a personal tragedy but stayed till 8 pm and delivered my car on the same day . Hats off to him.

The cost of standard service was Rs. 5618/-

Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD - 1,20,000 kms & prowling-50k-kms-service1.jpg

In addition to the above standard service jobs, I got the following additional jobs done :
  • Engine Oil changed
  • Both wipers changed
  • Rear Brake Pads changed for the first time at 52,000 kms (Front Brake Pads were changed at 38,000 kms)
Costs of these additional items as below

Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD - 1,20,000 kms & prowling-50k-kms-service2.jpg

Total cost of Scheduled service + additional items = Rs. 13,469/-

Total cost of maintenance per km (till 52,000 kms) = Rs. 1.05 per km
(this includes 3 additional instances of engine oil changes I asked them to do which were not as per service schedule - at 10K kms, at 30k kms & at 50k kms)

Thanks for sharing these details theindian, since you mentioned I am going to check the brake pads too.

Assume you change wipers often. Mine is more than an year old and must say is still fantastic compared to what I have on my ecosport.

Brake Pad labor for check/ clean or replace is only 220 (front) & 250 (rear). Actually checking is not needed as the sensor alerts if brake pad is worn off. It alerted me in case of front brake pads which I changed at 38,000 kms. This time there was no alert for rear brake pad but I asked them to clean / check & RM told me that it's almost worn off. So, got it changed, saved me a visit later to MASS.

I usually change wipers just before every monsoon. However, as you stated XUV wipers are fantastic. Last year June, I changed only driver side wiper as the passenger side wiper was perfectly fine. This time around I felt both needed a change. I do lots of road trips and want wiper to be in EXCELLENT condition without leaving even a trace of water on windshield.

Bought it online from aliexpress

I bought it as a package including following items alongwith SJCAM4000WiFi camera:
  • Extra additional Battery
  • Desktop Charger
  • Monopod
  • Car Windshield suction mount
  • Car charger - socket with 2 USB ports and USB cable

Combined cost of all of the above was US$105. I had to pay customs duty of Rs. 1250 (depends on luck, many doesn't need to pay)

Only the camera SJCAM4000WiFi was at US$90-something, I guess.

Excellent details and it does puts the fact back that indian manufactures have come up a long way in terms of quality and service.
Congratulations on reaching the milestone.

re: Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD - 1,20,000 kms & prowling

Finally, after almost 2 years of ownership (52,000+ kms), the unbeaten record of my XUV is broken :(

Last week, it had to stay at Global Gallarie for 2 days.

What happened was that a week after 50K kms service, I noticed that the engine noise has increased substantially - humming noise as well as engine clatter. Sent it to Global Gallarie last Monday. RM initially suspected issue with compressor bearings and / or tensioner belt. He replaced AC Compressor under warranty and the noise is gone. But it took 2 days - I got my car back on Wednesday morning.

I told him that next time he keeps the car there overnight, I'll insist on a standby loaner car (which I never ask for).

I've been a fan of XUV stock & OEM wiper blades. However, the last OEM wiper blade set that I changed during 50K kms service 2 weeks back does not seem to be as good as the earlier ones :( . Just after a week, it started leaving faint traces of water unlike the earlier 2 sets (stock and the OEM replacement last year).
