re: Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD - 1,20,000 kms & prowling

One of the main reasons for my excellent ownership experience with XUV is its ability to take the abuses in its stride coupled with superb service experience.

It has endured 2 Ladakh trips and many number of road trips across various states with aplomb and never stranded me on the road.

After our 1st Ladakh road trip in 2014, my nephew asked me that I might have to sell off the car on coming back from the trip. Well, one service done by my RM at Global Gallerie, Thane and it came as like brand new!! The service cost?? Rs. 6608/-

Few memories of my 2nd Ladakh road trip in 2016:

300 meters ahead of this spot, on our return journey we had to spend night on the road. Another car got stuck in the mud with the avalanche of BIG rocks falling from the mountain on the road. More on that later.

re: Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD - 1,20,000 kms & prowling

Since you have completed 90K Kms till now, I wanted to know if you had clutch work done and also got your suspension changed as well? I mean did you do anything related to these two things at all till now?
My XUV is about to reach 80K and I feel that I need to replace my clutch and suspension as the ride has become too hard and sounds strange too. So wanted to know what kind of damage I can look for if I get these two things changed from A$$.

Also I feel A$$ charges too much for brake pads (5K). I got my pads changed outside for just 1700. Just FYI

Went to a neighbourhood Tyre shop and replaced the battery - same as stock one - Amaron AAM GO 105D31R (85 Ah). Then got into some discussions on online forums and few people mentioned that XUV W8 stock battery is Amaron AAM GO 135D31R (90 Ah). Checked manual, it says 12v, 90 Ah (though I had earlier found specs written in manual are not absolutely correct/ updated, Headlight bulbs specs in manual are not correct/ updated). So, asked the shop guy that I want the same battery as the stock one - Amaron AAM GO 135D31R (90 Ah). He insisted that the battery replaced in my car is the same as stock one only. Went to his shop, checked my old battery still lying there. It was 105D31R (85 Ah) !! Called Amaron customer care number, they had no clue and said there is currently no model like 135D31R (90 Ah). Called Amaron Distributor in Mumbai who also confirmed that the model 135D31R (90 Ah) is not operational and 105D31R (85 Ah) is the right battery for XUV W8. Enough digging, so stayed with 105D31R (85 Ah) finally as I faced no issue in 3 years 71,000 kms.
How is the battery performing now? What is the cost you paid for the 85 Ah battery? Mine is W8 and 4.5 years old. Now I feels it need to be replaced as cranking, even after a full one hour run/charge of vehicle, is bit sluggish.

Sorry, Nitin for being quite late in responding. Don't know if it's too late. I replaced Clutch at 67k kms. It just failed in my office parking, the clutch pedal stuck to the floor and became free. Seems Clutch Slave Cylinder failed causing clutch to fail too for Mahindra own workshop advised me that the clutch needs to be replaced. My 2nd Ladakh trip was on the cards, so I didn't want to take any chances and didn't argue (in fact, it was blessing in disguise as I needed a strong clutch in Ladakh drive and was in dillema whether to change the working clutch or not).

The clutch kit was around Rs. 8,500 add labour and the total was about 13K

I have not got much work done on suspension as yet. After 2nd Ladakh trip, the lower arms got replaced.

In a month, I shall be going for 1,00,000 kms service

The Amaron battery is working very well. I think I paid 5,250 or 5500 for it

Replaced Clutch 2nd time at 1,16,000 kms

The 1st replacement was at 67,000 kms

The clutch was stopping a bit mid-way while springing back, got it checked and replaced

Changing tyres in next 2-3 days.

71,000 kms - Changed the stock Bridgestone Dueler tyres to Michelin Latitude HP Tourer
1,16,000 kms - reverting back to Bridgestone Dueler

Saw the reviews. Looked good. Took the plunge

Anyways, am going to upgrade to Endy in a couple of months. These talks of Endy facelift coming in Jan/Feb'19 is putting me in a dilemma. Don't want to stall it but they say wait for the facelift. Big Dilemma. And now office colleagues have thrown in a bait to go for GLC

Nice travelogues in a nice car This is one vehicle that I've trained my eyes on now, as a next upgrade - the 2018 W11 AWD model! Hopefully shall own one, in the next year, fingers crossed !

One concern/doubt : Obviously you'd be taking adequate safety measures for sure, but are your kids bolstered with the seat-belts in the makeshift bed on 2nd/3rd rows while on the move !? (If not, aren't you taking a big risk!?)

It's a risk, agreed but let's say I try to drive safe .

On a serious note, that was 4-5 years back and kids have now grown. Haven't done that makeshift bed since last 3-4 years.

THat reminds me that kids on the middle row resist when I ask them to wear seat-belt. Have to enforce or counsel more effectively

re: Mahindra XUV500 W8 FWD - 1,20,000 kms & prowling

Amaron battery (same specs as OEM, same model) changed in Jun'16 blown last week. At the end of the day in office parking when my driver tried to crank the car, he said there was a khat noise and smoke started coming out of bonnet

Called nearby battery guy, asked him to come with a spare battery to check. He examined and shown me that the battery has gone. Replaced it with the same specs Amaron battery again

1,23,000 kms. 5 years 4 months.

Thank you White Cheetah. You served me well

No Niggles, so called, No issues. You just ran and ran without any complaints. Twice to challenging terrains of Ladakh. Multiple times to Goa, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Kerala.

Kids still want to retain you, but the life moves on. Shall cherish last few days with you.
