Hey bro,
loved the review. Someone I know is planning on getting a used one.
Are there anythings to look out for when buying a used elantra? Also, do you still have the car and is maintaining it as cheap as before?
How many km has the car done now? are there any problems?

modifications for elantra

hi,
I bought an elantra crdi last oct and i am pretty impressed with the car and so is my family. I drove to Baroda 1450 kms and back without any problem. I touched 190+ speeds with ease without flooring the pedal. The car has amazing charateristics..
I tried a small stint with the pete's tuning box. Couldn't make much out of it.
I would like to know whether it really adds power. the so called 130 bhp and 30 kgm torque is doable.
I was told that the pete's box is costing only 19k now as compared to 30-31 earliers.
please advise does is make sense to spend for the pete's box. I already got the upgrade done to the green filters.

Not sure I quite understand what you mean by a small stint. But, if that means driving around with one in city traffic, you really cannot make out too much of a difference.

The Petes/PSI box does help the car get that 130 odd claimed bhp, and 30 kgm of torque on stage 1. If you need more power out of the car, please go ahead and get a box for yourself. If you don't need anymore power out of the car, or if you feel you cannot really use the additional horses, no point in getting one...

And for all those posts which I have not replied to, my apologies. I will update the thread soon with the details, but the short summary is, the car has done around 82000Kms now, and pretty much nothing has changed since I wrote the review...

haha thats good to hear mate, i'm eagerly waiting for a 82k KM review of the elantra babe. I need to ask something, with petes box 130 hp odd, u said in city driving hardly any difference? Why so? Turbo kicks at 2k rpm in elantra too. Petes box wont reduce the turbo lag and increase the power when turbo kicks in?

Look at this post - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...tml#post283989

It definitely does make city driving without the turbo spooling easier, but the real difference in power is pretty small, before the turbo spools. After it spools up, the difference in power progressively increases before tapering off, as expected. The graph in the earlier post explains the differences with and without the tuning box clearly.

I've always been a fan of Hyundai's valliant attempts to push it's cars more upmarket, one small step at a time.

I owned a 1st generation Tiburon/ Coupe (generation before your car) and admired the car's powerplant reliability. It's periphery systems (braking, suspension, build quality, electricals) were a nightmare but the engine kept plugging on, even with 2 Lac kms on the odo.

Alot of the issues mentioned were resolved with your generation of car. The diesel motor even shares its injection system with the Mercedes cars you mention. These are great things. But sadly, Hyundai is still playing catch up to the Japs. And it remains to be seen if it's "Genesis" platform can change that.

I've given up trying to figure out if the Germans, Japs or even Koreans make better cars. For now, I just back and watch from my W124.

Since you said your Kenwood is a GPS HU, couldn't you load maps through a DVD for local navigation ?

And how much has your CRDi run now ? Another report is surely awaited.

Hyundai should read this and learn something.

All the fantastic cars they have made have never made a mark on sales number.
