Re: BMW 530d M-Sport (F10) : My pre-worshipped beast

After driving ZF gearboxes in various brands & cars - including the 8 speed and 9 speed (just drove the Trailhawk) - I have come to realise that it's BMW's tuning that makes it truly great. In almost all other applications, the ZF has been "good" at best. No other brand comes close to what BMW has managed. BMW is just too darn good at fine-tuning their engines & gearboxes - even this 3.0 turbo-diesel is a jewel of an engine. The way their engines & gearboxes behave is one of the main reasons BMW draws so many enthusiasts.

Equally, I might add, Mercedes is a solid no. 2. Their 9-speed is very good too (but nowhere as phenomenal as BMW's ZF 8-speed).

Adding this pic from a recent outing:

A discount of almost 14 lakhs?
Can i really negotiate a 530d down to the low 50s for ex-showroom price?
Am I reading this right?!
Also, I don't understand why there's no space in the 5 series inspite of almost being the same length as an E-class. No one in my family except myself like the 3 and 5, simply because its impossible for 4 6-footers to sit comfortably in the car. The 5 was also only marginally longer than the 3 in rear seat space. We parked the E class and 5 series next to each other and it was almost of the same length, and yet, rear seat space was poles apart. Why has bmw made it so? Is to achieve that perfect weight distribution? Is it to accomodate an inline 6?
Thanks.

This was last Year December and yes you did read it right For the present day, you will need to check but if I am not mistaken, BMW now imports lower kits for the 30D and so the discounts might be even lower than 530i. The last I checked here in North, it was 8-10 Lac on 530i Ex-Showroom.

Something to do with the large Bonnet and overall weight distribution, I guess! Rear Seat really sucks on the 5 and E will be infinite times better if that's a concern. If you want to stick with BMW, do take a look at the 6GT in 30D, some of the dealers might be holding stocks.

You answered your own question, the I6 is mounted behind the front wheels as much as possible to ensure near 50:50 weight distribution.

I did, but I specifically want the m sport trim and in the 6 series, it is 7 lakhs costlier than the 530d M sport. Even with discounts it's still much costlier, but if theres a good enough deal on it, its defintely worth considering.

A long weekend can only mean one thing = DRIVE . Kept the office shut on Monday to make it a nice 4-day holiday. Headed out to Deolali / Nashik.

Horrible roads though. Just a few patches were good; majority of the highway was sad. Rains have destroyed my favourite highway:

Was great to take the 530d out after a long time. Spent almost a month in the USA in August, so that was out. And prior to that, I'd taken the Hector, Venue & Range Rover media cars out on highway trips:

At one of our favourite food stops. Strongly recommend the food court before Shahapur (most easily identified by the Burger King it has):

Holiday mornings be like...can't take Team-BHP out of the schedule!

Even a small town like Deolali has a Shell pump on the outskirts. Thanks to the 530d's ~800 km tank range, I didn't need to top up:

The enhanced ground clearance of the 2013+ cars is a boon. Roads like these pose no problem at all:

Sula Vineyards remains a must-visit attraction for us. Classy & fun! Post, we went to Little Italy for lunch:

Car had gotten damn dirty and it was bothering me. Got it cleaned inside out at the hotel itself:

Dude who owns the Taj Nashik land drives a 530d too!

Stupid spare tyre lying on the boot floor takes up a lot of space. Told everyone strictly to carry 1 medium-sized bag each:

Bad roads meant a poor average speed of just 54 km/h. Even the FE was lower than usual. I kept it in Sport mode for the instantaneous response:

A kiddo broke the rear air-con vent unit. Will get it fixed at the next service:

There is absolutely nothing about this car's storage that I can appreciate. It's such a task to even place your coffee mug (medium width). Annoyingly fidgety. Try doing this while driving:

An important update = Going forward, about once a week, I'll be handing the car over to a known & trusted chauffeur. Reason = Mom doesn't like cruising in the Sunny or Savaari cabs anymore. I love my car, but I love my 76-year old Mum more . The guy who's going to drive her around is someone who was employed with my sister for 5 years and took very good care of their Freelander & C-Class. I trust him.

Haha - no man. I have more cars than I need right now. With all the press cars coming in for test-drives, the running of my own cars has really dropped.

Hi GTO,
I hope you are ok for me to post a query on 530d, as I have booked a new 530D.

Would you know if BMW removed the rear seat entertainment system for 2019 cars? This is what I got to hear from showroom.

Yes, they have been removed. Saw a new 530d without the rear entertainment screens in the showroom.

Yes, no longer an option. Instead of increasing prices, they have removed this. I can assure you wont miss it.

Congratulations on the new car, do post pictures when you get the delivery. What colour did you booked and how much discounts you negotiated?

Your smartphone or an iPad are 100X better entertainment options than the OEM rear screens. As Turbanator mentioned, you won't miss them at all. In my car, these are purely of ornamental use.

Re: BMW 530d M-Sport (F10) : My pre-worshipped beast

So had my first puncture with this car! In fact, I think it's the only puncture I've had with any car in the last 5 years or so (have been lucky, I guess).

Stupid BMW though - their feature allocation is so weird. The car has TPMS, but it won't tell me which exact tyre is low on pressure (just a generic warning). Saw the alert late last night on the Sealink and crawled to a petrol pump close by. The rear left had just 20 PSI, so I think it's a slow puncture I picked up from the highway trip (roads were horrible).

Will get it fixed tomorrow. Runflats to be repaired just like any normal tyre.

Re: BMW 530d M-Sport (F10) : My pre-worshipped beast

I got my VIN yesterday and per the Mdecoder website the manufacturing month is march 2019 but dealer says they have a different method to decode and its may 2019.
even then this month denotes the manufacturing of the chassis in Germany , correct? and I believe it takes time for these key components to arrive at Chennai plant for assembly?

Should I be worried about the 6 months gap? about engine oil or battery specifically?
