I had my 2010 Fiat Linea checked with a very knowledgeable FNG at 78,000 km (2018) and asked him if the timing chain needs to be replaced as there was some circular back in 2012-2013 that the timing chain was failing prematurely for some engines, hence Fiat needs to inspect all cars and get them changed earlier. I and my brother missed that notice as always

The guy said that a timing chain -unlike timing belt- will not snap suddenly, it will start showing signs like jerks, misfire, drop in pickup or increase in fuel consumption. In fact, the chain does not snap at all under normal wear-and-tear conditions, it will loosen over the period and the pre-tensioner will fail to maintain adequate 'tension' . The first sign as he said would be a change in engine noise. Think of it as similar to heart condition called arrhythmia. For cars driven properly, it can last well above 1 lakh kilometers. Ours was in perfect condition according to him, which I could vouch as there was absolutely nothing wrong with the way the engine behaved. The engine mounts were worn out so that caused a lot a vibrations.

Note: We sold the car after a few days for other reasons not related to engine.

Congrats on achieving a significant milestone with the Ciaz Prasanna! I have always admired the Ciaz for its understated looks and extremely comfortable interiors. Wishing you many more happy miles with the car.

However, I was curious how easy it has been to maintain the beige bits on the interior. Your car of course looks extremely fresh, but I have seen a few vehicles with a distinct brown tinge on high-touch zones.

Lastly, have you faced any of the famous Maruti rattles during your ownership?

Thank you!

I am very particular about keeping the interiors clean, and the weekly wash includes cleaning the interiors too (if needed). Though there aren't any brownish tinges, the frequent contact areas like the armrest, and driver door elbow pads do have mild discoloration. But yes, 5 years and 1.2 lakh of usage , that's normal.

Regarding rattles, I have had none till 70,000 km except for an instance of driver door rattle once, which was rectified by A.S.S. Beyond 70,000 km there have been some rattles on and off - specifically from the front passenger seat when driven on bad roads while the seat is unoccupied. I got it rectified but it reoccurs every 6 months and I do it again during the service. No rattles from the dash , nothing that stands out when mild music is on.

Speaking of rattles, every brand has it. My brother drives a 2018 Vento with just 35,000 km on it and I was shocked to hear rattles from the dash. Same is the case with my in-laws 2015 Honda city, rattles from the doors. But all were mild and honestly, a few rattles don't bother me, given that the car has served me so well.
One brand that has impressed me is the Skoda Rapid, we have one with 1.7 lakh km on the odo, without a single rattle so far. Guess initial batches (2013 and before) were built really well.
Not even a single breakdown, nor a niggle. It has been perfect since day one till now. Most rattles that owners report on the ciaz are not from the car per se, but from the loose stuff (like coins, empty bottles, stationeries) that they keep in the car. I usually don't keep any such loose items.

re: 1,30,000 km & counting, My Maruti Ciaz ZDI

I always have an impression that service centers don't do a good job of cleaning. Though I was billed for some mysterious "protective coating" during the 120k service, it always felt like the car did not look it's best.

Remedy - A nice wash and a wax polish. Decided to use the liquid polish that Maruti sells - MGA one.

After wash, application of wax

After wiping it off

re: 1,30,000 km & counting, My Maruti Ciaz ZDI

Very happy to see your attachment to Ciaz, seems like you have taken good care of the car.
Mine is a 2016 Ciaz ZDI SHVS due for a tire replacement, Stocks are MRF ZVTV 185/65/R15 have run 54000KM now, have suffered a side wall puncture, and have used the spare tire for the first time, which I was very reluctant to use. I am looking for tire replacement at 55K mark, i have Yokohama E1, Continental, Michelin in mind. I'm looking for less noise, good grip and running range of around 40-50k Kms.

Have read elsewhere Continental loses its grip soon. So pretty much confused with options. Kindly suggest.

I suggest Continental MC5 and you can upsize it to 195/60 sections. The tyre provides excellent grip, is durable too(lasted 63k km in mine) but it is slightly noisy when compared to Michelin. Any tyre will lose its grip levels beyond 25k km. I didn't find the difference in grip substantial though, even after 60k km.

re: 1,30,000 km & counting, My Maruti Ciaz ZDI

Update :

Odo - 1,22,000 km

I have been consciously driving the car a bit sedately for the first 1000 km after timing kit replacement. The last 1000 km were driven in the usual style. The first few hundred km, I felt the top end performance lagged a bit when compared to what it was before the timing kit replacement. The car noticeably struggled beyond certain speed. But with the kilometres clocking in, the car feels back to its best when driven pedal to metal. Personally I love the ciaz for its all round nature. It doesn't disappoint me when I need fuel
efficiency and also when I need to do some spirited driving. Atleast 70000 km of my usage would have been fast highway driving. A short dashcam footage -

The ac blower though feels like it has gone a bit weaker. I seem to be keeping the air volume one step above the usual settings.

re: 1,30,000 km & counting, My Maruti Ciaz ZDI

My sister and niece are moving abroad. So our usage for 4 cars will go down to 3, which means I will be using another car as a beater. Right now I have parked my Storme v400 in my garage along with the ciaz. But I will use the kwid most probably as the beater.

I don't like driving the kwid/celerio. Neither of them seem comfortable, kwid being worse, already giving out noises from the rear suspension. It has run 43k km in 4 years.

From today's airport run, the 2 ultra comfortable mile munchers of mine - Ciaz & Storme V400

How is the steering like is it difficult to handle compared to stock tires and would oversizing the tires affect the balance of suspension, steering rods and other components to wear quickly?

Did you get the odometer recaliberated after upsizing.

Thanks.
