No way should the brake pads give up at 15k km. I drive pretty aggressively and even then it lasted for 40k km. The source for noise might be dust or it may be a defective pad right from the manufacturing floor.

PS: I also did services every 5k km till 45000 km and only then realise Maruti recommends service only once per 10000km. But the ASS won't tell you that. They are happy milking money even of you go for service every 1000 km

re: 1,30,000 km & counting, My Maruti Ciaz ZDI

Hello Prasanna,
My views were same too. Perhaps it was manufacturing defect. In fact, the brakes were making clanking noises during hard braking in the first 1000 KMs. The ASS guys, on bringing the same to their notice, had cleaned the brake pads saying that there was sand/grit on account to rains. I do drive in the ghats regularly, perhaps this accounts for premature wear?

How long have your tyres lasted? What make were they?
I have Appollo Allnacs and I've had real bad experience with them. I, now have to change either one Appollo or 4 MRFs to match the spare tyre!

Thanks
Rajaram

re: 1,30,000 km & counting, My Maruti Ciaz ZDI

I too was fooled by MASS when they changed my brake pads at 20000. Me being a novice was not prepared and did not know how to react. So just said - OK. This OK cost me Rs. 3000 (including labour and taxes). Since then i have made up a principle - do not say YES or OK without doing some research on it. Even if i have to take the car again the next day for that recommended job. It has worked till now (46000 and counting) ..

I would also like to know about the tyres. Intend to change them at 50000.

Score marks can be caused by different reasons but the most common is sand/grit stuck between pads and the rotor. Hope the rotor surface was also examined for any anomalies.

That is why it is important to get the brake pads and rotors cleaned with brake cleaner at the annual or biannual service. Also the caliper pins should be checked for free movement.

Hi Rajaram,

My first set were Apollo's. I prematurely changed them at 42k km IIRC. It would have lasted till 60k .

One of my friends is running 59k on stock tyres in his ciaz. I guess you could go longer than 50k.

Update:
Odo: 61,300 km

Had a bad experience this time when I was in Chennai. I was waiting at a red light, and a stupid lady on a scooter decides to squeeze in the gap between my ciaz and a cab that was waiting besides. She gave a ding to both the cars. Result- a small scratch on the otherwise spotless car.

I am having 2016 Ciaz RS model and I changed break pads 3-4 months ago @ 40000 service. Before changing the brake pads, they showed me the existing pads and also told me that they could last till next 2000-2500 kms. But since my daily running is around 80 km, I decided to change them.
They also returned me the older pads. By the way, I do regular servicing @ My Car Pune since last 12 years.

Regarding tyres, my odo is 46000+ kms and stock tyres are still doing good job.

An update after almost 70 days. I was out of action for 2 months and hence Ciaz was idle in August and September.

Odo: 64100 km

PS: That avg fuel economy figure is higher than usual as I just resetted it 30 km ago, and have been driving while listening to my favourite podcast, enjoying the morning weather at 80kmph.

It has been 3 years and a month since I bought this. Couldn't be more satisfied and happy with a car

Prasanna Dada, How can I find out if a part is covered under warranty/extended warranty or not covered at all?

Hi SDee,
Sorry I don't have an idea about that. I usually trust the MASS guys on that info.

re: 1,30,000 km & counting, My Maruti Ciaz ZDI

Major update regarding fuel efficiency:

"My 2015 Maruti Ciaz ZDI - 1,33,000 km completed : Now Sold-img_20181103_143047_119.jpg

To be honest, I was totally bowled over by the amazing fuel efficiency I got from the ciaz today. I had no intention of driving for max FE though. I had to drive to my wife's native in the beautiful Peravurani town. 237 km to and fro trip.
I had fuelled up the tank until cut off before the trip.
I was driving sedately (80-100 kmph on 2 lane NH from Trichy to Pudukkottai and 60-80 kmph on one laned state highway from Pudukkottai to Peravurani). And when I returned home I was surprised to see the fuel gauge still up to 3/4 the level of the meter. I switched to see FE figure and I was surprised to see 25.6 kmpl!!

"My 2015 Maruti Ciaz ZDI - 1,33,000 km completed : Now Sold-photo-collage20181103_203312.jpg

The range for a full tank diesel before trip was 695 km(trip computer must have computer it from 19ish figure of the last tankful). And after driving 237 km, it still shows 610 km. I am looking at nearly 900km range for a full tank this time. Let's see.

"My 2015 Maruti Ciaz ZDI - 1,33,000 km completed : Now Sold-photo-collage20181103_203509.jpg

Over all, I am so happy about how frugal, comfortable, spacious and reliable this car is proving to be.

Now a few pics from today's drive

re: 1,30,000 km & counting, My Maruti Ciaz ZDI

Well, first tank ful completed with me driving sanely all through.

Odo: 65713

Distance covered in this full (70%)tank : 607.7km
Remaining fuel in tank: around 30%
Range remaining: 250 km
Fuel efficiency from MID : 24.4 kmpl

I had to do a 300 km round trip and I did not want to risk refuelling at unknown petrol pumps. Hence fuelled up while there was around 30% fuel still left.
"My 2015 Maruti Ciaz ZDI - 1,33,000 km completed : Now Sold-photo-collage20181110_133219.jpg

Liters consumed(till cut off): 25
Liters filled : 25.9 (as I had to pay cash and wanted them to round it off)

"My 2015 Maruti Ciaz ZDI - 1,33,000 km completed : Now Sold-photo-collage20181110_133501.jpg

Actual fuel efficiency :
23.4 kmpl (considering total fuel filled)
24.3 kmpl (from cut off to cut off)

So it is approximately 24 kmpl!! Usual exaggeration by MID has been 0.5 kmpl.

Now after refuelling, it shows a stupendous 825 km range (not bad for a 35 liter tank eh!)

Now that's higher than my previous Swift diesel and Chevrolet Beat diesel. Driving has been sedate , 40:40:20 - Highway:Rural:City, ACC on the whole time.

If it was more of highway, I could easily look at 25kmpl actual fuel efficiency

Storme has been left to rest in my garage. Ciaz being used totally. And offlate i notice mild rattle from front driver's door when driven on bad roads. Need to be checked during the 70k service.
