The ciaz is marching towards an incredible milestone of 100,000 km soon. I am very keen on keeping it fresh and new at all times.

For all the need for good monsoon rains, it brings with it one major drawback to any car lover- a dirty car at the end of the day.

Terrific reliability and total comfort - 1 lakh km in my Maruti Ciaz ZDI-img_20191020_0901591192.jpg

It took me solid 1 hour to clean the car completely. Now, all set for another 700km till the next wash 7 days later

I can't wait to see 6 digits on the odo

Ain't she looking gorgeous!

Update:

Odo : 99,000 km

Just 1000 more km / 10 days to hit the 1 lakh km milestone.

Terrific reliability and total comfort - 1 lakh km in my Maruti Ciaz ZDI-img_20191106_2114349052.jpg

I need to report a wonderful fuel efficiency update, I have been driving pretty sedately offlate(for the last 3 tankfulls). The average figure you see in the MID is for the last 3 tankfulls combined.

Terrific reliability and total comfort - 1 lakh km in my Maruti Ciaz ZDI-img_20191105_070926_823.jpg

Terrific reliability and total comfort - 1 lakh km in my Maruti Ciaz ZDI-img_20191105_070926_824.jpg

This tankfull was the best as I had driven sedately all through. If I remember correctly, this must be the best range I have achieved for a single tankfull - 724 km with still 90km range remaining as per MID. Isn't it great for a puny 35 liter tank?

I wanted to calculate the actual fuel efficiency figure as the MID had not been reset for the past 1800 km. I refilled today (to exact cut off like every time) and calculated the fuel efficiency of this tankfull.

Total diesel consumed : 29.64 liters
Total distance covered : 723.4 km
Actual fuel efficiency : 24.40 kmpl
Highway speeds : 90-100 kmph, occasional 110 kmph
City : 1750-2100 rpm at most times
AC : Always on
City : Highway - 40:60
This is the best full tank FE figure in all of 4 years.

To anyone who drives 100+ km a day, this fuel efficiency is a boon. I can't wait to cross the 6 digits milestone as it is something very special to me. Of the 20 cars we have owned in the last 30 years, this is the only car that is totally driven by me and nobody else, all through from day of delivery till today , which is going to hit 6 digits on the odo.

My next update in this thread will be a very extensive report of the entire period of ownership, covering all points from service history, wear and tear parts replacement info and other important stats. It will give a fair idea of what it is to own a ciaz diesel and to use it long term (a lakh km).

I've been following your thread since long. Thanks to detailed ownership review. I thought ciaz will behave as rattle snake say after 75000 km but your ownership assures me that it ages pretty well.
A ciaz 90HP is frugal as compared to Linea or Punto90. Only MS knows how to map best Fiat's MJD engine. This particular reason I want Fiat's 1.6 MJD in MS cars from April2020. Let's see how it goes. My Punto 90hp yields in the range of 15-17kmpl only. It takes a whole lot of engineering by MS to attain Ciaz's mileage figures. Keep inspiring with your updates.

P.S: Happy to join Tbhp having veterans like you from TN-48. .

Thank you!

It is indeed surprising and happy to find a fellow BHPian from Srirangam. I have met a few BHPians from TN 45, but none from TN 48 till today.

The Fiat's 1.3 multijet has found its best tune in Marutis, be the performance of 1.3 FGT in the first gen swift I owned or the frugality of the 1.3 VGT in the Ciaz.

Punto/Linea are considerably heavier too. Ciaz is just about 1130 kg, which might be lighter than the Punto. Regarding rattles, Ciaz does age better than other Marutis. For an example, my friend has a 3 year old 1,07,000 km run Ciaz, which has zero rattles. It depends on the nature of the road the car is being run on. My Ciaz is not as lucky as I drive on bad roads almost every day. I did have some rattles from the RHS front door around 70000 km mark, but it was resolved by the SVC during the service.

Even when it was there, it wasn't very obvious like in my Storme/old Dicor/TD Nexon and you can hear it only when driven on bad roads. I was shocked when I heard rattles from the centre console of my friend's 20k run Abarth. When it comes to rattles, the Europeans are the benchmark. My brother's 1,50,000 km run rapid still has no rattles what so ever. But then, you hear the suspension a lot.

Default re: Terrific reliability and total comfort - 1 lakh km in my Maruti Ciaz ZDI

Update :

Odo : 99,500 km

Another important fuel efficiency update , this time reporting the worst fuel efficiency i have ever got from a tankfull.

Latest tankfull data
Total distance covered : 493.7 km
Total fuel consumed : 31.8 liters
Avg Fuel efficiency (MID) : 15.8 kmpl
Avg Fuel efficiency (Actual) : 15.5 kmpl

Terrific reliability and total comfort - 1 lakh km in my Maruti Ciaz ZDI-photo-collage20191112_100445.jpg

So this must be the lowest FE figure from the ciaz in the 4+ years of ownership.

That's a 230 km difference between the last actual tankfull range!!

Let me go through the reasons why

1. I drove absolutely spirited 100% of the times whenever I was on the highway, so much that talking about it would go against forum rules. Simply put, I held every gear till minimum 2500 rpm before upshifting and all cruising happened at 3000-4000rpm in the 5th, staying at 3500rpm for the most times

2. Idling with AC on while parked, when the missus was gone shopping, which means over 45 minutes, thrice last week.

Ironic to have the best 24.4 kmpl and worst 15.5 kmpl fuel efficiencies reported back to back.

Anyways that would be a great datum to be reported during the 1 lakh km mega-update. Shows how much driving style can impact fuel efficiency figures, no matter how frugal the engine might be.

Read through the entire thread, and wow! One can feel the deep bond between you and your car. Nice to see it maintained meticulously. Do you have a name for your beauty though? I especially enjoyed the pics with the other cars in the background (older posts, around 2015?) Do try to recreate that. Here's to clocking many more happy miles on your Ciaz!

Thank you mate! Sure, I will post a few pics like that

Odo: 99,850 km

The more I want to see 1 lakh on the odo, the less the car is being used. I hope to see it in a couple of days.
I just got the beloved ciaz a little personalised as a mark of respect and love for serving me flawlessly and reaching the 6 digit milestone. Pasted TBHP stickers, 3 of my most favorite ones - new LTD at the front bumper, LCLC and old LTD at the rear.

I just love the way it looks, specially the new LTD. It would look even more brilliant on white cars (my storme and Kwid have to earn them lol) My last white steed, the 90k run Chevy Beat had LTD and it looked gorgeous.

The ever favorite LTD and LCLC at the back. Thought of pasting LCLC it near the Ciaz logo, but decided to have it aligned with the LTD.

Btw, the continental MC5 is proving to be very durable. It has been on duty for the last 58,000 km and has an easy 20000 km life left in it. Can't wait to get the 205/R15 Michelins or Yokohamas and get the alloys painted black (half minded about the alloy paint though)

1,00,000 km milestone reached

The ciaz has reached the 1 lakh km milestone in a little over 4 years

After a few thousand kilometers of ownership, you know your car like a good friend. After a lakh kilometers of ownership, you know your call like your soul mate.

The car has been driven by only one person - Me This is so special because this is the firat and only car that has clocked 1 lakh km driven totally by me. The past high runners were Safari Dicor 1.4 lakh km, Chevy Beat 87k km, Suzuki Swift 93k km and Sumo Grande 90k km, all of them were driven 50% by drivers.

The odo at the magical figure

Maruti Ciaz 1.3 DDIS 200 - Likes and Dislikes after 1,00,000 km

What I Like

1. Space and Comfort
Excellent ride quality, well-engineered front seats and space for 5 well-fed 6 footers. I travel on bad roads often and I find the ciaz most comfortable of our cars, yes this includes the Storme too.

2. Reliability & Engine
Terrific reliability. I have taken it to its limits for hours together. Talk about doing 3500 rpm in 5th for hours together. The engine takes it all, and performs flawlessly. NVH is best among the cars with 1.3 DDIS under the bonnet. I haven't had a single niggle or breakdown so far.

3. Interior layout
It is like my second home. I like the way it has been laid out. The interiors look classy and there are no misaligned panels or rattles so far. Every time i drive other cars in my garage, once i come back to Ciaz, I get the feeling of being at home instantly. That's how much I am accustomed and comfortable with the Ciaz. The seats fit me perfectly, the armrest and the padding on the RHS door are very supportive, i get the cradled feel sitting on the front seats.

4. Looks
Ciaz is a big car, long and wide and low slung. It looks elegant and dignified

5. Fuel Efficiency

Well, the strong point of any Maruti, isn't it?
Features
It has all the features that I need. My needs are simple. I need auto dimming rear view mirrors, rear camera and parking sensors, auto ac, armrests front and back, effective defoggers, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, flawless Bluetooth telephony, decent music system and enough storage spaces
Tankful to Tankful actual fuel efficiency
Worst Fuel efficiency : 15.5 kmpl (only once in 4 years)
Highest Fuel efficiency : 24.4 kmpl
Average Fuel efficiency: 18-21 kmpl

Highest actual trip fuel efficiency : 25.6 kmpl - 240km round trip

What I don't like

1. Light build quality

Even under small impacts, you can expect dents. This is the major drawback of the Ciaz in my opinion. This also leads to occasional mild rattles when driven on bad roads, specially from driver door. I had it sorted out during 70k service. It doesn't rattle since then.

If you are wondering why I haven't spoken about performance and handling in the dislikes, it is because i love both aspects of my car. I do some serious speeds on a regular basis, and drive around corners at those speeds. it is a matter of getting used to the steering and suspension feedback. The engine has an ugly lag initially, but if you can work up the gears, and keep it above 2200 rpm, the mid range is beautiful, and the top end is not far away from the segment best (we have a Rapid 1.6, Vento 1.5 and used to have a GT 1.6 in the extended family). The top end is just about 5 kmph lower in the Ciaz, advantage of being lighter. In my perspective, the car doesn't make an enthusiast driver, an enthusiast driver makes a car!

The Ciaz doesn't look much older than the brand new Vento 1.5

Total Expenditure in 4.25 years and 1 lakh km of ownership

Total Maintenance costs : Rs. 91,792
Total fuel costs (Rs.3/km avg) : Rs. 3,00,000
Total insurance costs : Rs. 54,000
Repair cost : Dent repair - Rs. 2000
Suspension Strut replacement labour - Rs. 500
Tyre replacement cost - Rs. 23,000
Battery replacement cost - Rs. 5300
Tyre alignment and Wheel balancing costs : Rs. 8000
Magnetic window shades - Rs. 1500
Roots windtone horn - Rs. 1800

Total costs incurred : Rs. 4,87,892 /-

Current tyres set : Continental MC5 195/60 R15
Has run 58,000 km so far, and still has about 20,000 km life left. Next upgrade will be 205/60 R15 Michelin or Yokos.
The service costs would still be lesser as I was naive enough to have my car serviced at every 5000 km till 40000 km. Anyways 4.8rs/km is still a low cost of ownership in my opinion

Thanks machi. .
I still regret not having checked the air pressure after the alignment the day before our drive together. I was horrified that they had filled up 40+ psi on all wheels. Anyways I enjoyed driving with you to Tanjore. if only had I filled 32 psi on all wheels, the ride would have been a lot plusher and comfortable.

We need to meet up sometime again.

Interesting to see there's no timing chain replacement for 90HP MJD! What does Ciaz manual says? For Fiat 90HP cars it is compulsory at 90000 KM.

I need to check with the A.S.S schedule. Timing chain on Maruti DDIS 200 last longer than 90k. Usually they ask us to replace at 110-120 k on the odo.

My friend has a 3 year old 109k run ciaz which also is still on the stock timing belt. People wait till belt noise to crop up. But I will have to change it proactively. Will do it in the next service (110k). Also planning to replace clutch, though I don't have any issues with the stock clutch so far. No loss of power or stiffness.

Has any of the ciaz owners experienced this? Minute cuts and scratches on the rear side of the gear knob? I was shocked to see this and immediately doubted the A.S.S. and the car wash people. But to my surprise, my friend's ciaz has similar damages to the gear knob. No, I don't wear a ring nor do I have nails uncut.

Terrific reliability and total comfort - 1 lakh km in my Maruti Ciaz ZDI-img_20191118_095321685.jpg

I replaced it with a new gear knob at the 100k service. Costed me 250 bucks.

The garage mates - Dignified Ciaz and the hooligan KTM. I moved to a different house this February and could not have my Kwid/Storme as the garage is quite a tight fit for 2+ cars. Result - ciaz being used for everything (30,000 km usage since February) I am planning to put the KTM to use, again. This, after a nice wash to both of them this morning (it rained yesterday and I don't like the shoddy wash job of Maruti A.S.S, hence washed it again)
