Awesome.

Why not convert even the indicators? Or have you already changed them?

Spotted your car today at Morabadi. I recognised your car from a distance by the LED headlights, no other Maruti 800 in town has such proper LED setup. Sorry, didn't call up as I was in a hurry. The rear fog lamps looked great. Honestly, the pictures don't do justice. Will meet up tomorrow to check out the rear wiper and fog lamp in person.

Regards,
Swapnil

No Sumit. The indicators are normal OEM bulbs. I have left them as it is because if LEDs are installed, they start hyperflashing. It can be overcome by installing LED compatible flasher relay, but I don't wish to have any non standard item in my car. Hence I'm happy for the time being.

The idea behind using LED bulbs is mainly power saving and enhanced output. The low draw of LED bulbs may confuse the flasher and it will start blinking at a frequency higher than normal just as it does when one of the (normal) bulbs fuse to warn the driver of an issue.

Regarding low power draw, LEDs are best for bulbs used in fittings/lamps that are continuously on for e.g. headlamps or tail-lights which in turn result in a lower load on the alternator. Using them in indicators which are used momentarily say 60 - 180 seconds is pretty pointless given the higher cost of purchase.

You did well in choosing OEM suppliers. Their quality is unparalleled and products reliable.

Powerbulbs story: One day, I saw 30% off on Powerbulbs, and even if I accounted for customs(which they did charge me, a hefty 42%), It was still way cheaper. My main purpose of installing LEDs was energy saving. But I must say I'm very impressed with their brightness and sharpness. The way they instantly turn on and off without any lag is remarkable.
I first bought bulbs from Powerbulbs UK, very trustworthy vendor, for my Honda City Type II back in '03-04. They were the premium Philips H4 halogens with 30-50% extra output, a big deal back in the day. Can you imagine these products were not available in this country?!

Powerbulbs shipped it to me in the UK where I was based and I used to get them with me when I returned to India. They provided a major difference in light output and one of the main reasons why I discourage 100/90s as far as possible. Simply no need to risk the headlamp assembly or install aux wiring.

A side note - it is worth remember that one needs more illumination/light as one grows older (not applicable to you at this time ), it is natural. So good quality headlamps are highly recommended for drivers who are middle aged or older.

Sunday became a Funday, with BHPians around: BHPian Tacho9000 and ALTIMAed drove from Kolkata to Ranchi, and we had a nice time with BHPian SwapnilAlto joining us too.

Some pics from the drive and the meet:

Re: The love of my life - A 2000 Maruti 800 DX 5-Speed. EDIT: Gets export model features on Pg 27

Drove down to Ranchi to get my beloved Goldie thoroughly refurbished under the watchful and observant eyes of Leoshashi at his trusted place. The attention to detail is wonderful from what I've seen of him. Had lots of fun during our brief stay in Ranchi. Leoshashi's 800 is the best example of what an 800 can be and can be done to it within reasons. The handling was simply mindboggling in the ghats, something I wish will be replicable in my Goldie too post refurbishment. Also, drove Leoshashi's GG for some distance, it is an 800 from a different planet it seems, picks up speed like crazy, is bone stock and handles like it's on rails. And before the brickbats come out, I'm going to admit I'm not exaggerating. Thanks Leoshashi for taking Goldie under your watchful eyes and getting him done up to your sky high standards. Some pictures of BHPian Leoshashi, Swapnil_Alto, ALTIMAed with their rides.

Swapnil_Alto guiding us through his hometown towards our hotel.

Again a big and heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped us and kept us company in Ranchi. I hope to see Goldie back soon after Leoshashi has done his magic on the car.

Subhra

Why no LED love for the indicators?

here's mine. The beauty of doing this on older cars is that there is no need to cut wires or add resistors - just swap out the flasher with an LED version.

Mine bulbs are generic bulbs though

There are two reasons, for not converting the indicators to LEDs.

1. My own personal view:

I have left them as it is because if LEDs are installed, they start hyperflashing. It can be overcome by installing LED compatible flasher relay, but I don't wish to have any non standard item in my car. Hence I'm happy for the time being.
2. As pointed out by R2D2 Sir,

Looks beautiful. The day I am able to source an OEM or equivalent quality Flasher relay, I'll surely go with the LED conversion of the indicators also.

Shashi

Dear Shashi,

Thanks for wonderful documentation of the Jobs carried out on your 800.
Modifications done are just immaculate & I prefer the same way to be 100% OEM as far as possible.

Referring to your reply to a member earlier. I have quoted your reply.
I am also searching for this Sticker for my Maruti-800 Type-II. is it available separately, if yes please share the part number.

Or do I have to order any one of below part:

1. 73310M50A01-5PK
2. 73310M84002

Require your confirmation.

regards,
Sanjeev

Apologies for posting one more query on your ownership thread.
Since, I think this thread is on the path of becoming a bible for enthusiasts who are interested in keeping their 800s in great shape and OEM Spec

Query: Light on the Dashboard in the knob for temperature control. That LED has fused.

1. Can this LED be replaced with a New one ?
2. If yes, then any specification for that LED ? its green in color
3. Will this be a simple replace LED job on the PCB ?

if you wish, I can post the picture as well.

regards,
Sanjeev

Thanks a lot Shashi for quick response. Highly appreciated!!
I will try to procure this Bulb from MGP Store near me.
But one thing when I see my LED / Bulb it is Black in color.

## Please Note, my 800 is a December-1997 Type-II. Are there any differences in the Bulbs / LEDs.

Better, I would post a picture. That should give a clearer picture to you.
Apologies again for troubling during your travel.
Will share my number with you, so that we can have communication rather than bombarding your thread with Queries.

regards,
Sanjeev

Yes it's the same in all Type 2 and Type 3 cars(1997 to 2014). Please refer to the link given above.

PS: Do post some pics of your 1997 beauty.
