First of all congratulations on completing Mission Alloy Wheels . The alloys have really transformed the looks of your M800. These simple yet elegant multi-spoke alloys really suit the boxy design of the M800, flowery/curvy design alloys would have really looked out of place in a M800.

In the last few months, you have painstakingly completed two major projects, first was the rear wiper upgrade & now the MGA alloys. Now, what is the next upgrade/modification ?

Yes, the last few months have been really fruitful with respect to the upgrades. But I don't think there is anything left to do now.

TBH, Alloys were never on my mind since I had lost all hopes of finding alloys which were discontinued way back in 2008. Also, it became possible only due to the folks here who helped me in sourcing all the alloys. So they deserve a pat on their back more than me.

At the moment, I am working on cutting wind noise by using 3M noise insulation rubber tapes. That project is still in its nascent stage, so I won't comment anything on it right now.

Regards,
Shashi

Hats off to your efforts in finding and sourcing the alloys Shashi, the car looks fan-freaking-tastic.
What's next on the to-do list?

Thanks buddy. I am loving the looks and the attention she is grabbing in public. I casually clicked this pic the other day, and later noticed the expression of the biker:

Also, thanks a lot Francis for taking the pains to photoshop and help me finalise the color of the alloys. I was badly confused between stock silver and black.

What stands out beautifully well is that mod job on rear fog lamp too. It just looks factory finish. And when you drive in rains and foggy weather, the glow this illuminates also stands out away from the regular tail lamps.

Omission of rear fog lamps in latest models of Maruti is supremely cheap. I am not saying that it enhances the looks but when driving in heavy rains and following some of the cars I noticed how immensely it aides in spotting vehicles ahead.

Congrats Shashi, a lovely car and a superb owner's thread this is. A relatively silent subscribed member to your thread here. Your effort is tremondous and it shows, something which I can only dream off, for my cars.

I actually wanted to point out the possible unsprung weight disadvantage when you had mentioned lower weight of alloys as one of the reasons for the switch. However, it may not matter for our mass produced cars .

With no offense, against the flow, I feel, the steel rims used to give it a nicer stock look, however looks are subjective and just sharing my view.

Sharing a pic of the M800 which looks really elegant in my opinion, would like to know your take on it and if the alloys are OE (source of the pic: internet)?

I have discovered why the weight of the steel rims were lower than alloys. The rims I was running on, was made in 2016. Recently I weighed a spare wheel of a friend's 1999 M800 and they were around 12kgs in weight(including tyres).

It only means that Maruti has done cost cutting in rims too. I have also noticed the new rims getting damaged easily compared to older rims. There was a minor design change too. If noticed closely, the inner dish of new rims have vents, while the older rims had fully welded dishes. From the outside, they all looked same unless carefully seen.

Also its not a hard and fast rule that Steel rims are heavier than Alloys, depends a lot on how the alloys and steel rims are made. Also since it was a part of the MGA lineup earlier, I am trusting Maruti for reliability and all such checks. These alloys were made by Aura wheels(Hindalco), which were famous for quality in the last decade.

No offence taken buddy. The alloys you have posted, were shown in Maruti 800's brochure but were never available for purchase.

The ones I have installed, were a part of the MGA lineup. Sharing an image of the MGA brochure:

The love of my life - A 2000 Maruti 800 DX 5-Speed. EDIT: Gets export model features on Pg 27-img20180519wa0067.jpg

I am happy with the way they look in person. They are not the most beautiful alloys out there, but look sufficiently decent. And frankly speaking, I am amazed by the improvement in ride quality they have brought. As I have mentioned in my earlier posts, the steel rims were notorious for having a slight wobbly feeling at a particular low speed(30kmph in my case). I tried experimenting with many new rims but without any significant improvement.

The current alloys have completely eliminated that wobble which was haunting me since ages. That alone makes this investment justified for me.

Shashi

Thank you. That is unfortunate, those alloys look so elegant on 800.

Special Thanks to BHPian Cooltronics for carrying this wax from US. Some pics sent by him:

DBHPian R2D2 says this wax is popular in the Rolls Royce community. Well GG's worth is unfathomable in my life, hence didn't think twice before getting this elusive wax.

Its is no more a Maruti 800, its a Maruti Super 800.

I silently follow this thread from day one but this is the first time am commenting in this thread. I had no words to express Sashi's unconditional love and perseverance to maintain this super 800! Hats off to you brother.

Your comment reminds me of a small stanza I had written way back in 2003 as a Class 6 kid for GG. Please don't laugh, sounds stupid now.

" Never realised she looked so divine,
Never realised she had grown younger with time.
Never did she reveal her age, with slightest slack,
I love her, and she loves me back."

BHPian and good friend Sumit loved these lines so much that he used it for his 800 too in another forum.

Shashi
