Re: The love of my life - A 2000 Maruti 800 DX 5-Speed. EDIT: Gets export model features on Pg 27

Our nearly 25 year old 800 we bought brand new in 1995 July.

Will be going for the retest tomorrow.

Will put up a separate detailed report later. Have even the booking papers from 1994. Though not in the best condition and even though other cars have come to the family. But this one won't be going anywhere. A family member who has always been with us. And even took me to my wedding.

And when I do the full restoration in around a years time, the GG will definitely be the reference point.

I got down, helped the bikers to get up and made them sit on the divider. Some other good samaritans came and moved the bike.

Meanwhile police came and asked the chaps if I was responsible for the crash. More than confirming, their tone gave me a vibe that they wanted the bikers to say Yes! The biker then lied that they don't know how they fell, may be they felt a push from behind.
Glad you are alright! My word is it a pity that some people can be like this. It was indeed your good day to have had proof.

Could you share details about the installation of the cam and maybe a snap or two, please?

Close one!

Good that you had the dash cam! I've been postponing a dash cam purchase and installation since I'm not sure on an upgrade decision yet - but your post sure makes me rethink the decision again.

Re: The love of my life - A 2000 Maruti 800 DX 5-Speed. EDIT: Gets export model features on Pg 27

Hello everyone...!
First off, I have been a religious follower of this thread and admire how Leoshashi goes thaty extra mile to keep GG in top shape. I too own a 2003 Alto (Avatar), bought when I was in 5th standard. That old lady has a tale of her own, probably I will pen down everything once I get over my lethargy of writing or ample time from my Work from home (read Living at Work). Since mine is a special edition (named Celebration), it came with body graphics from the factory, whcih have made way for Galio made similar graphics. However, when going through boodmo, I came across this 77809M79G00A12 part number which seems unavailable. They even have this 77833M79G00 emblem. Leoshashi, kindly help me in sourcing one of these sets of graphics.

Welcome to the forum.

Lovely car. I do remember seeing this edition on my way back from school, during the summers of 2003. It was a Riviera red Alto.

Let me see how I can help you. Give me some time.

Shashi

Re: The love of my life - A 2000 Maruti 800 DX 5-Speed. EDIT: Gets export model features on Pg 27

GG had a nasty puncture recently. As per the tyre store guy, the culprit was remains of the road reflector. Nevertheless I was ready to replace the tyre since point of failure was near the shoulder. The tyre mechanic was sure that a mushroom repair will be absolutely safe. I'll still need your opinion guys.

Apart from this, there is nothing much to update. GG is enjoying her retirement life. I try to take her out atleast once a week, on a dry day, so that the mechanicals remain in top shape.

Got the underbody deep cleaned and dried at my trusted car wash.

F8D Powered: After 20 years, Maruti still didn't get a better entry level engine.

With her Big brother. Yes I did notice that nasty black mark on the front door. It was a thick black grease mark. I removed it immediately after taking this pic.

Is GG doing outstation duties now? If not, then get a mushroom patch repair. It'll hold good. I had got it done for our Ritz once and there was no issue even after running around 10K kms.

Reflectors have large and thick bolts that anchor them to the road. It's possible that the tyre carcass plies and radial belts may have been damaged. As GG is kind of retired you could use this tyre as a spare and avoid the extra expense. But then GG isn't any run-of-the-mill ordinary car so it deserves a new shoe. She'll be happy and so will you.

No, I just take out GG once a while on empty roads so that she can stretch her legs. Nothing else. The tyre store guys have done mushroom patch from inside, and have assured there is nothing to worry.

Fortunately for me, it was the top part of the reflector which broke here, which had a thin but long screw. That screw went inside and as per dia of the screw, it was a pretty narrow hole. I was more worried about location of the damage. Anyways that tyre has been patched up from inside and I've kept it in the boot. I don't wish to take any kind of risk with GG.

Shashi

What an immaculately maintained Maruti 800 ! Kudos to you Leoshashi ! How do you renew the registration after 15 years of the vehicle's age ? Is it a tedious process ? What is the process/penalties if your RC is expired beyond 6 months ?

Thank you Saket. Do you have any information about penalties associated with an expired registration ? I am trying to restore a 20 year old M800 whose registration expired at 15 years and was never renewed.

If memory serves me right, you will have to pay according to Rs. 500 per month rate for the entire expired period. So do the maths.
