re: Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 79k km done

OE Exide battery lasted for 77k kms / 4.5 years. Dad bought new Amaron battery. The price was Rs. 4300 after buy back of old battery.

re: Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 79k km done

Dad uses the car once in a while. ODO is around 78.5k kms now. I am planning to get the service done soon, will change all filters and fluids.

There is sound from gearbox too, but it goes away if I press the clutch. It should be worn out input shaft bearing. The part costs Rs. 347, I have already got it from Boodmo.

This part is shared in many Hyundai diesel cars, ranging from Grand I10 to Creta as per Boodmo.

The labour for opening gearbox would be little expensive, close to 2k. I will do the service and input shaft bearing replacement at Mahindra first choice / any good FNG / Hyundai service centre.

Remapped Grand I10 is so much fun in city, literally no lag. No issues with TOT map. But, I want a change. TOT was not able to switch off EGR. I am planning to try Wolf map, provided they can give little more punch with EGR off .

re: Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 79k km done

Very nice to see that the 3-cylinder diesel does such a phenomenal job on the i10. I happened to take a ola xcent that has the same engine. I was surprised to see that the driver had done more than 1.8 lakh km trouble free on it. So definitely the engine is a gem

re: Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 79k km done

Grand I10 is back in action .

The car is back home after service and gearbox work. Hyundai took almost a week for service and repairs. The delay was due to non availability of input shaft rear bearing. It took few days for them to get the part from Chennai.

All filters, Engine oil, Brake fluid, Coolant, Brake pads were changed along with input shaft bearings. I had got one bearing from Boodmo and they used the same.

Total bill : Rs. 18,649

Yes, it looks very expensive. Around 6k was labour charge for gearbox works .

The bill mentions engine decarbonisation was done. But, I was not charged for coolant and brake fluid. SA told that it was a mistake and charges have been balanced.

Engine bay was clean and there was some greasy coat. As per SA, they have applied special anti rat coat. No such mention on the bill though.

I was also charged for caliper greasing, brake pads change. Not sure if it should be included under PMS and not charged again.

Anyways I am happy after driving the car. She is so smooth. All issues have been fixed, YES!

Present ODO

What next?

1. Change rear tyres

2. Retune from Wolf Moto (Hope Rajiv can delete EGR)

Re: Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 79k km done

650 km done in last 3 days

I got chance to take Grand I10 for long road trip. It's been really long since I drove this car properly. The car was fully loaded with passengers and luggage.

Drive : Kasaragod -> Manipal -> Gokarna -> Jog Falls -> Manipal

It was a long weekend and We decided to go on a road trip (last minute plans haha). The Drive was uneventful. The performance of Grand I10 was as expected. Fun in city , good till 120 KMPH and average top end performance. I could easily beat a stock S-cross 1.3 till 120 KMPH. Not to forget my car is remapped.

Somewhere in Gokarna

Jog Falls
Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 8 years / 1 lakh km done-img20181002wa0081.jpg
Gokarna was fun. We visited many cafes and the food was awesome in all places. Rains have stopped, should have visited Jog falls earlier. It is 4 lane highway till Kundapur. Post that there are too many deviations, thanks to road works ( four laning). Average speed was 55 kmph and FE was 16 kmpl for the entire trip.

Re: Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 79k km done

It's been exactly 5 years since Grand I10 was added to the garage. Ownership experience has been good, the car never had any breakdown.

Additional parts which were replaced other then routine maintenance are

1. Turbo charger (Warranty)
2. Rear left wheel ABS sensor ( Warranty)
3. Input shaft bearings (Paid)

Today, I clocked 80k kms
Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 8 years / 1 lakh km done-img_20181005_090505.jpg

If I had only Grand I10 in my garage, it would have done 2.5 lakhs km in 5 years .

I also got the insurance renewed from Hyundai. The cost was Rs. 7373 after 50 percent NCB.

re: Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 8 years / 1 lakh km done

I had bought Meguiars Natural shine interior cleaner from Flipkart. It was slightly on expensive side at Rs. 787.

I am happy with the outcome. It doesn't leave any sticky residues or greasy stains.

This is how the dashboard of my 5 years old car looks like

I would be using Grand I10 for next couple of days. This car also gives the best FE inside city.

Looks cool. What about the smell, does it leave any?? One grouse I have with such dashboard polishes is the smell it leaves behind. 3M almost choked me to death once.

I too had bad experience with 3M dashboard dresser. It was greasy and had got bad smell. There would be white powdery deposits if parked under sun. No such issues with Meguiars. There is a very mild pleasant smell which vanishes after a day or two.

re: Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 8 years / 1 lakh km done

I did not drive the car since Gokarna trip in October. Dad has driven around 3500 km in last 3 months. Nothing new or any major issues to report except that AC has stopped cooling again.

re: Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 8 years / 1 lakh km done

The car has run around 88k Kms, used only by my dad for short trips since last couple of months. AC is still not fixed. The car was also driven inside our farm.

And this was the condition....
Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 8 years / 1 lakh km done-img20190718wa0011.jpg

Attacked with Foam cleaner
Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 8 years / 1 lakh km done-img20190718wa0012.jpg

Better!

I am planning to fix AC and use the car for few months in Manipal. This car should be perfect for my short drive to College. I am not really enjoying the 200 HP S-Cross as I don't get to drive long .

Curious to know who did the remap. Mind sharing ?
Thanks Doc. Sorry for the delay in replying. I am an ardent reader of your posts. Thanks for all the good work.

I got my Grandi10 diesel remapped from Quantum in New Delhi. Akshay there did caution me to not expect much gains, but some. Initially the gains felt good and it seemed okay to have spent 24k on this 5 year old 75k driven sweet buggy. Since I could not drive this car too much, it took the car sometime to show the true character of the tune.

First 2k km were covered only after a couple of months. And then I started experiencing some unusual miss/inhibition while I would throttle in on lower speed on say second or third gear. I thought maybe injectors are experiencing too much pressure and an additive may help. It did, but for just about 100 odd km.

Then I got throttle body cleaned. Which I think please has helped to some extent with a more reliable throttle response, but not the way it used to be before the time. Also, I genuinely feel that the gains I got have flattened out to some extent.

Do you have a view about this Doc?

Grand I10 diesel is not a commonly tuned car. I had tried Code 6 tuning and there was hardly any difference. I did get decent gains in mid range with RD tuning box, but not very impressive. Presently I am running on TOT remap and it's pretty good and I am happy.

Regarding your car, you were happy initially and the performance decreased later. So, I suspect it's something to do with the car. Check EGR, Turbo and intercooler hoses.

re: Remapped Hyundai Grand i10 1.1L CRDI : 8 years / 1 lakh km done

6 years / ~90k Kms done

I had not at all driven the car since long time, used only by dad.

Insurance was renewed for around 7k from Hyundai. The routine service is pending, I might get it done at Mahindra First Choice. One of the most reliable cars in our garage, zero rattles till date . The service costs are not really high if you are careful and insist only on the jobs mentioned in user manual.

I have decided to use this car for next couple of weeks. I need to also try a remap from Wolf and see if they can switch off EGR, Tune O Tronics were not able to do. But, I am fully satisfied with their remap in terms of performance and reliability

I was all ready to take the car to Manipal and the battery had died . It's just 1.5 years old Amaron battery, dad had used the car 4-5 days back. Anyways the battery is under full warranty period.

Charged the battery and started the car for now. But, I would be taking the car to Manipal after dad gets new battery.
