re: My Maruti-Suzuki Baleno Zeta Petrol | Now Wolf'd | 6 years & 42,000 km done

I got Baleno for this week to Manipal .

Present ODO : 23840 km

It's really a good change when you shift to NA petrol after driving turbo diesel for long time. This car feels lot more smoother and very revv happy. FE is also excellent.

It's been almost 5000 km with BMC filter. I just checked the filter today. Planning to clean it at 7500 km. Need to get the kit from BMC.

I drive only 300 km every week (200 km drive every weekend : Manipal to Kasaragod to Manipal). I have decided to swap between my cars every week, as I can park only one car at my Manipal house. Need to give equal treatment to my cars and it would be Kwid for next week .

Baleno looks happy here

How has the experience been with the BMC filter? would you recommend it (we have a 6 year old Brio 1.2L).

Did you also a consider a cold air intake/direct air intake?

could you share the contact of the concerned person at powerhaus please - thanks in advance.

Do not expect a lot of gains. But, yes there is a difference. Performance is better at top end and engine revvs better too. It has met my expectations .

No. I believe that will have more gains. Do make sure the placement is right.

Thank you for the info - want to improve low and mid-range as Brio is used only in city.

Will contact them to see what can be done - am also considering a remap as the car is now 6 years old.

any suggestions would be welcome

Have enjoyed reading your thread - please do keep posting!

I am not very sure, but I believe there are 2 different ECUs in Brio (Bosch and Keihin??). Most of the tuners don't remap NA cars. From what I have seen.. Kiirus (Mumbai) and Wolf Moto (Kochi) do more remaps on NA cars compared to others.

I would be getting my Baleno tuned by Wolf soon .

So I guess I will have to stick to the air-filter, sparks plug and exhaust upgrade.

Looking forward to hear how Baleno performs after upgrade!

re: My Maruti-Suzuki Baleno Zeta Petrol | Now Wolf'd | 6 years & 42,000 km done

I heard from Xenon Planet that they are willing to rectify the issues. The relay had gone bad. I have the same brand relay in my SX4. I just swapped the hid controller and it worked. So it was diagnosed to be faulty relay.

The part which had gone Kaput

XP assured me that it would be replaced under warranty. They sent me a new relay after couple of days. It was also Chinese, but a different brand.

I was actually not expecting any customer support from Xenon Planet after bad experience with XP Micro setup in S-Cross. This was a surprisingly good experience.

re: My Maruti-Suzuki Baleno Zeta Petrol | Now Wolf'd | 6 years & 42,000 km done

The car has crossed 25k KM's. There was sound from brake pad wear indicator. Dad has installed TVS brake pads. It was priced only Rs. 874. TVS is the OE supplier for most of the Maruti cars. But, I couldn't see any TVS name on OE Baleno pads. Not sure if it's imported, my Baleno is from the very first batch.

Old OE Pads

TVS also has 2 more premium options , Super and Hi-Per.

I got the insurance renewed from Maruti for Rs. 8830 (Normal Comprehensive Insurance). I also need to give the car for service, will do it after Diwali .

re: My Maruti-Suzuki Baleno Zeta Petrol | Now Wolf'd | 6 years & 42,000 km done

I had got the car serviced few days back. It was just a minor service which consists of engine oil and filter change. The bill was Rs. 3625 . Maruti petrols are very easy on maintenance .

Service center had advised to change front stabilizer bar joint, but it was not covered under warranty. I did not get it changed, few owner's have got it under warranty after escalation.

Hi

Dr. Vivek here. I spotted your Baleno last week, precisely on 20th November at Manipal. I was on my trip from Mumbai. I was driving a VW Polo refelx silver colour and you happened to overtake me. This is my car, I am not sure if you spotted me.

Hello,

Yes , I do remember your Polo as it had Team BHP sticker. I had overtaken you on uphill and if I remember correctly you took a turn at Parkala later.

re: My Maruti-Suzuki Baleno Zeta Petrol | Now Wolf'd | 6 years & 42,000 km done

Wolf Remap Done !

Wolf team had come to my house in Manipal to remap Baleno. Rajiv, the tuner was not present. It was their first time Baleno remap. All my cars have been first time for the tuners.

Wolf were confident about remap as they have done many previous gen Swift 1.2. But things were not smooth. Baleno ECU was slightly different compared to old Swift. Old swift has Bosch ME17.9.62 and it was Me17.9.64 in Baleno. CMD tool did not have protocol for Baleno ECU. This was a major setback. But we had some hope because the processor (TC1724) was same in both ECU's. Problem was connections were not known.

Wolf Team were trying their best to sort this out. I remembered that Akshay from GT Tunerz has almost all the ECU tools in world. I called him up and explained the problem. He readily agreed to help us and one of his tools had wiring diagram for Baleno ECU. He sent it to me. Wolf Team worked on it and finally cracked the Baleno ECU to work on CMD. We were able to successfully read the file. I felt so relieved and confident that Rajiv would do a good tune now.

I get a call from Rajiv and he was quite shocked. According to him, Baleno was already running with much advanced timing compared to old Swift. I was like Oh crap, then the potential is much lesser. Cars with retarded timing from factory responds very well with minor advance. Anyways we decided to test few maps.

Map 1

I just took the car out for a spin and it was so slow. It was so disappointing. Throttle response was blunt and car was singificantly slower than stock.

I told the same to Rajiv and he was not surprised. He told me to try another map. Problem is stock map already has such advanced timing compared to Old Swift and it's tricky to advance it more. We will lose power going above optimum ignition timing. I really don't understand how Maruti claims similar power figures

Map 2 :

This map was lot better than previous one. Throttle response was sharp. Engine note was also slightly more aggressive. But the car feels slightly slower in full throttle, its much better in half to 75 percent throttle. Wolf has asked me to drive few more days and try Reliance Petrol. They will give me an update soon. I would say I am satisfied with the current map but it could have been better. My request to raise the rev limiter was also not met. Anyways Wolf Team has been supportive and tried their best. Let's see how it goes.

Special Thanks to Akshay from GT Tunerz Delhi once again. This guy is super helpful while majority of the tuning industry just bad mouth each other. Hopefully Wolf can work more on Baleno maps and perfect it. Waiting to test few more maps after their Goa trip!!
