There was no sun films. Baleno gets tinted glass from factory itself . Yes dark glass and Kerala registration did attract cops.

I am facing a weird issue with steering. It doesn't feel normal. There is some kind of mild resistance at times, it feels like steering wants to go against me. I took the car to Maruti and they were not able to appreciate it .

I have been told that they have replaced steering column in couple of cars. But they did not find any such symptoms in my car. SDT showed normal voltage values of power steering motor.

Note : Wheel Alignment, Tyre pressure are checked and all good.

I am also facing similar issue in my petrol baleno and raised this twice during service but they couldn't find anything wrong and found normal voltage values at power steering motor (I also checked alignment and wheel balancing, they were fine).
For me the issue happens while going through winding roads where I have to keep the steering at the same position for couple of seconds or more, when I try to return it to the center I get a small resistance and have to use additional force to get it moving.

Mine is a May 2016 Delta petrol. Also I have not made any tyre or rim upgrades.

Do update here if Maruti service centre rectifies this issue. I would also try, need to get hold of another Baleno and do back to back test drives.

I am planning to report this in the next service which will be after 2-3 months only. I plan to go to a new service center and see if it makes any difference.

Guess the car?

Yes, my humble Baleno

I took the Baleno out today and yesterday, clocked 450 KM. My Baleno has half the power and 1/4 th the torque of my modded S-Cross 1.6. The top speed was lesser by 30 kmph, but the average speed was down by only 5 kmph on same roads. More power doesn't really make a huge difference in most of the Indian driving conditions.

I have moved to Manipal and got Baleno here. Went for road trip with friends yesterday (Manipal -> Karkala -> Sringeri -> Agumbe -> Manipal). Baleno performed very well. Key is to revv the car till redline for performance . I got 16 kmpl too.

We had also been to Kaup beach and lighthouse. The view from lighthouse is spectacular.

Thanks to my friend Pramod Abraham for all the above pics.

Rajiv from Wolf Moto contacted me few days back and said he might be able to remap Baleno 1.2 without opening the ECU. He has got even CMD tool and they have released an update for Suzuki 1.2 where remap could be done without opening the ECU. But, you have to remove the ECU from car(do not open) and make connections. Gains for NA car would be less, but I am mainly looking for better low end and lifting the revv limiter to 7000 RPM .

I had driven to Mangalore today and got chance to try out Speed 97 petrol. Yes, it's available in Mangalore at only one bunk. The price was close to 100 bucks per litre. The tank was almost empty before filling it up with Speed 97.

Observations :

1. Engine is more silent at idling.

2. Slight improvement in throttle response.

3. Top end seems to be improved, there is no jerk / mild delay when shifting gears at 6200 RPM.

4. FE was almost same.

I am planning to get the map tuned for 97 RON from Wolf Moto. That should be able to extract more juice .

Did you check further on this issue? I am planning to give my car for service this Sunday, if you have found a solution to this problem then please let me know and I will also get it done along with the service.

I have not been able to get it checked thoroughly by Maruti. Baleno is at my Kasaragod home now, decided to get it inspected during next service.

Do let us know if you get it rectified

Reported this issue during service (went 3 a new service center this time) and after checking they told me that the steering column will need to be replaced. They have placed an order for procuring the parts and according to them it will take almost a month for parts to arrive, post which they call me in for replacement under warranty.

Yes, Maruti dealer has agreed to change the steering column even in my case under warranty. They have a circular with chassis number cut off from Maruti. They are not recalling the cars, will change it only if the customer comes with this complaint.
