re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I have decided not to flush the engine anymore . I just thought clean engine would be nice and happily used engine flush in SX4 and S-Cross. Both the cars started emitting whitish blue smoke on cold start. Yes, slight amount of oil is getting burnt. Luckily, the smoke is not continuous or present after engine is warm. I hope this would be back to normal after the carbon gets accumulated again. But, yes the engine is smoother and clatter has reduced. Performance is also same as before.

Check out this video too

I thought this was normal for a diesel car on a cold start. Your cars never emitted white smoke prior to flush on a cold start ? I've seen it a few times on my Swift, but goes away in under a minute.

Yes, some cars do. Here it is slightly blue too. Both my cars did not have this before using engine flush. Anyways, I believe it should be fine after running few hundred kms. Smoke levels in my SX4 has already dropped after 1000 kms .

I am very happy with the performance. The engine is lot more smoother now after service + Liqui Moly flush. The white smoke during cold start has also reduced by big margin. It should be normal soon. Gearshifts are butter smooth. Liqui Moly Gear oil additive gear oil additive does magic on gear shifts.

I drove to Manipal at night and fully enjoyed the performance. This car masks speeds very well. I am planning to try a new map from Wolf soon. I have seriously lost the count, should be around 20 maps by now .

I have driven around 750 km after service which included Liqui Moly flush. I am happy to report that white smoke on starting the engine has completely disappeared now.

Do check the video

Manipal House looks better now

Present ODO is around 41k KM. I got CEL all of a sudden while driving at 60 kmph today. There was no power loss / limp mode. I couldn't check the error code as I had left the OBD reader at Kasaragod home. I am suspecting the brake switch. Many S-Cross owners have faced this issue. Maruti service centre was also closed today.

The CEL disappeared on it's own during 110 km drive yesterday night. As expected it is the brake switch. The error code is P0504. Cruise control was not working when CEL was on. As of now there is no CEL. I have not deleted the error code in history. I will get the brake switch changed at service centre

Hello Dr Naren, Hope you are doing well.
Could you please elaborate on how the engine flush is used? For example, how much time it has to be kept inside the engine, Do we need to turn the engine on and the likes.

Regards,
A.

1. Do it before using the new engine oil.

2. Pour the Engine flush when engine is at operating temperature.

3. Keep the engine idling for 10-15 minutes.

4. Drain the old oil and pour new engine oil.

Adding to what Naren has said, I think it is recommended to change the oil filter after this exercise. New oil + oil filter to be used.

Hi, Dr.Naren.

What will be the effect of running the flush twice?

What I mean is, after completing the flush the first time with the old oil and draining it, I pour in some cheap new oil and run the car and allow any left behind dirt to get picked up by the new oil, and then run another bottle of flush again. After which, I use another batch of clean cheap oil and let that drain out after letting it circulate a little bit. Thus effectively leaving the engine completely sludge free, and without any leftover residue flush liquid from the previous flushes.

I wanted to move to a better synth./semi synth. oil for my next change and was contemplating doing it this way.
Of course, I know it may seem like a waste of money and cheap oil. But I'm very particular and anal about doing things perfectly.

So I wanted to know, if you think this would be grossly overdoing it, and to just do it the way you and @a4anurag have jointly mentioned?

Thanks and cheers!!

Before the two Bhpians whom you have quoted answer this, may I, with my limited experience, suggest that you have effectively answered your own query.

Let me assure you that just doing it the way Dr.Naren and a4anurag have mentioned will be more than enough .

That said, I love the way you love your car.

Yes, you can do that to relieve the OCD of fully sludge free engine . Personally I feel it's not needed. You can either use engine flush or use new cheap oil as flush.

Also, I suggest you to check the video posted in #466. Engine flush is not recommended for engines with high mileage.

Cheers!

Ohh, I had missed that video and the subsequent posts. My car has done 76k KM so far. I don't know, but would that be considered as a high mile engine?

But hey, I noticed that the smoke stopped completely soon after, could that mean it only takes that long for carbon to build back up again? Or is there something we are missing?

Also regarding the scotty kilmer video, my car has been running on the basic mineral oil from FASC, and also my 1.4 TDCi being pretty simple and older tech shouldnt have issues with those tiny pathways, galleries, etc. Right?

Hahaha, thank you!! I will take that as a huge compliment!!!

But thanks for the responses, my fellow bhpians!! Much appreciated.
Also, maybe I won't go full OCD nutjob, and just do it once. Hehe.

PS: I'm planning on using Liqui Moly too.
