I did a temple run too, Chennai - Srirangam - Rameswaram - Madurai - Thrissur - Chennai. The roads were poor between Srirangam & Rameswaram.

The car has been doing multiple short trips since last few days. Uncle and family had come from USA, I was their official driver

My Uncle was very impressed with S-Cross. He appreciated the AC, ride quality, loaded with features etc. The car took all bad roads effortlessly, even with full load. I had never gone above 90 kmph and FE was very very impressive. I got close to 20 kmpl today.

I have driven around 15k KM with Continental MC5 tyres. The front tyres have only 1.5 mm tread left before TWI mark. It is not due to my driving style this time, the tyres were not rotated

Yes, 50 percent more tread than front. I will rotate the tyres now and hopefully run 10k km more. 25k km total life is good for me haha.

I also noticed this needle on rear left tyre, there was no leak. I removed it and started leaking. Tyre shops were not open today in my place.

35000 KM Done!

I have run more than 35k km now. S-Cross has been doing what it is really good at, highway cruising. I drove around 635 km yesterday. Mysore - >Bangalore Airport - > E City - >Mysore - > Kasaragod. The drive was brilliant. I got very good FE too, 16.7 kmpl.

The puncture was fixed with hot patch (Rs. 500)

There was no pressure drop, hope it stays this way.

My 5 th set of brake pads are also done now

. I have also observed scratches on brake discs. It would take few more days to get EBC Green stuff from UK. My plan is to get new OE discs and install EBC brake pads.

Since the puncture is on the edge, I would keep it as my spare. Even with the hot patch, I won't trust that tyre at high speeds.
I am not sure how much more better the patch is over the regular rubber strip fix.

The puncture is not actually on sidewall. It is on shoulder. It was fixed with plug from outside. That did not work and started leaking again. Hot patch looks good so far. The car was behaving little weird with one Elanzo and 3 MC5's

. I have also reduced my top speed by 50 percentage now

Problems :

1. Brake discs : lot of scratches, uneven surface (I can't skim them again)

2. Brake pads : They are done, I was getting sound from wear indicator.

3. One not so safe tyre (fixed with hot patch)

Due to some sudden change of plans, I am supposed to drive around 500 KM. It is not possible with problems 1 and 2. EBC brake pads would take few more days. I made a quick visit to MGP store and picked up brake discs and pads. I got brake pads of SX4 and saved 750 bucks. S-Cross and SX4 have same pads, but Maruti charges premium for Nexa customers.

Be safe. One of my michelins got a superficial cut on the sidewall, no threads are exposed and there is no air leak either. But i have made it the spare. Just can't trust a fixed or damaged tyre with the kind of driving we do.

Naren, I told you on FB and I'll tell you again. Dont start quoting technicalities (not sidewall, shoulder, etc) to defend this practice of running with a damaged tyre.

It could give way anytime. The shoulder too flexes a fair amount (proof in the fact that a normal puncture didnt hold).

Doesnt matter if you're doing *only* 110. A tyre deflation at even 80 can be fatal.

Dont try to be penny wise pound foolish. Buy a brand new tyre and then when you change the others, keep this brand new tyre as a spare and use 4 brand new tyres on the car.

That tire flex...I went too hot in a corner and I could literally feel my all terrains getting all squishy and flexing [one side] under full load after the suspension travel. So, yes, will agree with Sankar & Nikhil on this

Correct. I had put this repaired tyre as spare. As mentioned before the car was behaving weird with one Elanzo

Quick Visit to Maruti Service :

Spares were not available in my regular service center. I had driven to Mangalore and picked up discs and pads from MGP store yesterday. I got them installed today at service centre. They charged around 350 as labour.

I also got the car washed. It was quite expensive, close to Rs. 500. The washing charge for S-Cross is higher. There is no labour code for only body wash like other Maruti cars. It says washing and cleaning.

The experience at service centre was good. Staff are friendly and I know almost everyone there.

I guess you are swapping the tyres of your SX4 and S-Cross.

It took some time to swap. Dad helped me with this. SX4 has 205/60 R16 Falken tyres and they have more than 70 percent tread left. My SX4 is not even used, gearbox synchro has gone kaput again. This will be fixed only after few months.

The outcome has exceeded my expectations. Both the cars are looking nice

SX4 and S-Cross are siblings. Most of the parts are shared. The tyre specs are same too. I can drive peacefully in my S-Cross now. It just took little time and energy, totally worth it!
