re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

After lot of thinking and discussion, I have decided not to go for tuning box. I always believed that good remap is better any day. So, finally made the decision.

Stay Tuned

Naren, When you changed the alloy of S-Cross with the machined alloy of Brezza, any hub rings were used?. The S-Cross alloy is 16x6J while Brezza one is 16x6.5J. I'm planning for the same change. Hence the query of the need for hub rings if any.

Hub rings were not used. Wheel balancing was done. I have not noticed vibration even at good speeds. S-Cross with machine finished alloys have become so common now. Mine was the first S-Cross to get it from my dealer and now many are going for it. It is VFM and looks really good too .

I have driven 2000 KM. I just checked the oil dip stick and was surprised to note that engine oil colour was not changed. It used to turn black in my other diesel cars after driving first 1000 KM.

Let's be happy about it. Fully imported engine from Italy should have a difference in good way . How is your car doing? I feel the engine has opened up and little more smooth after driving 2000 KM.

The engine has opened up quiet well in fact just the way I want (Touchwood). One thing i observed, the sunglass holder is a rattler for sure. My Aviators rattle especially while going over rumble strips. Need to figure out something like putting a piece of rubber.

I have not observed rattles from sunglass holder. What irritates me is rear parcel tray. It can be folded to access boot from rear seat. Front 1/4 th of parcel tray which can be split keeps vibrating on bad roads making sound.

I agree 100%. Be it a 3 lakhs car or 12 lakhs car, that silly parcel tray always makes it presence felt. Thinking of some solution to fix it permanently.

I don't have parcel tray vibration issue in Baleno/Grand I10/Kwid. In S-Cross there is a partition in parcel tray to access the boot. Front part of it keeps vibrating on bad roads.

I have a WagonR which gives tray noise once in a while.
My Jazz gives zero tray noise.
Note: the Jazz tray is practically useless for keeping anything on it. If the item is small it falls down through the gap between the tray and the rear seat. Big items should never be kept there anyway!

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I drove to Mysore yesterday with car fully loaded. 5 adults + loaded boot. I got only 13.5 KMPL as per MID. I drove to Bangalore later from Mysore with 4 occupants and no luggage. MID showed 15 KMPL. There was thick traffic yesterday on Mysore - Bangalore highway.

Car was pulling very well even under load. But it used to struggle below 1500 RPM on ghats (Coorg). Trick is to keep the car in turbo zone. I did not find low end bad when driven without load. I still enjoyed the car on ghats. Car never felt loaded when it's in turbo zone. It was picking up speeds effortlessly. I totally love this torque monster .

Finally, I am back home after driving around 800 KM in last 2 days. Dad got behind the wheel for some time on the drive back to Mangalore. Return journey had only 2 people and no luggage. FE as per MID was 17.3 KMPL. Dad doesn't push the car much nowadays. But I was surprised to see the change when he was behind the wheel of 1.6. I could see him enjoying the car pushing it on corners and he was doing least 15-20 KMPH more than his usual speed .

We took around 2.5 hours from Bangalore to Mysore and another 4.5 hours from Mysore to Mangalore (A spirited drive indeed )

Sun glass holder : Rattle

I was driving on a bad stretch of road. I heard squeaking sound from left side. Dad was sitting next and I told it's coming from left front door/ORVM. But he insisted that it's coming from driver side door/ORVM. We argued and rechecked many times. Finally the culprit turned out to be sunglass holder. I have not observed this before.

Rear parcel tray + sun glass holder = culprit of rattles in my S-Cross.

I am planning to retrofit Mini D2S projector from Xenon Planet. As I have mentioned before, stock projector output is just average.

I removed the back cap of headlight today. There is lot of space inside. I think stock projector could be removed without opening the headlight assembly. I need to confirm with Xenon Planet if new projector could be installed without opening the headlight assembly. I am planning to install any projector compatible with D2S bulb. This gives an advantage to use OEM D2S bulb like Osram & Philips.

Stock Ballast : Philips 25W

Stock Bulbs : Philips D5S HID
