re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

Is Rs 12000 the average service expense of the S cross with the usual oil/air filter change routine?

3rd service / 10k KM : ~4000 Rs
4th service / 20K KM : ~8000 Rs

I have mentioned the total cost spent at Maruti service centre till date

Roulunds Brake pads :

I have driven more than 500 KM with new pads. The feedback is :

1. Initial bite is much better than OE pads
2. There is good improvement when braking at high speeds.
3. Brake dust is more than OE pads

My OE pads lasted only 14.5K KM and 7K km. I do not blame the pads, it's my driving . I hope Roulunds last at least 14.5K KM. Its much cheaper than OE pads and I am happy with overall improvement.

23000 KM done

I have driven more than 23000 KM and I have had lots of fun in last 8K km, thanks to Wolf remap and Blackworks Downpipe. I have got updated map from Wolf few days back. The engine air filter was little dirty and I wanted to replace it to appreciate real gains from previous tune.

I had been to many MGP stores and Maruti service centres searching for S-Cross 1.3 air filter. Due to GST, most of them did not have stock. I managed to get S-Cross 1.6 filter finally. It costs 910 rs as it's SGP. My car is April 2016 make and the new filter is October 2015 . I could notice some marginal improvement post new filter change. The turbo kick is more stronger and there is mild improvement in top end.

New 1.6 air filter vs Old 1.3 air filter

I am very happy with my S-Cross 1.6. The mods like Wolf remap, Blackworks Downpipe & TB plate delete, XP Micro Bixenon Fog Projectors, Continental MC5 tyres have just made it perfect.

Rats have done some minor damages below the engine cover. Luckily no wires were damaged. I had seen one Maruti circular mentioning that S-Cross 1.6 had lost power due to rat bite on vacuum pipe of turbo. I took the car out and everything looked fine. Need to do something and keep these rodents away.

P.S : The rats have got into the cabin of Altura and damaged seats, floor mats etc.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I had noticed some issues with my suspension setup around 1000 KM back and the dealer had told me everything is perfect. I had noticed oil leak in front right shock absorber last week. The dealer has agreed to replace only front right shock under warranty. I should be getting it done soon as the part is still in transit.

My concern is that both right and left shocks would be from same batch (potentially defective or not up to the mark??). Also if they change it only on one side, will it be balanced?? I am sure that even the left side is weak, but no visible oil leak.

Oil leak from front right shock absorber :

I think it is better to replace both the front ones. Shocks are always to be replaced in pairs and only individually incase there is an accident of course.

To be brutally honest, your dealer seems to be very linient with warranty claims. Companies like Volkswagen only have a 6 month warranty on shocks and tie rod ends.

Taking into consideration all of this, get both the front shocks replaced. In terms of unevenness, I have no idea how damaged the second one is, but you never know. The shock is a part that can go bust or leak oil spontaneously and you wouldn't want to visit the dealer again.

Haha, that is why Maruti Suzuki is unbeatable . Maruti had changed shocks in my SX4 even at 50K km under extended warranty.

If they are not willing to change left side shock under warranty, I will pay from my pocket and get it done

Front Right Shock Absorber Replaced :

I got call from SA that the part has arrived and I got it replaced under warranty. The front shocks and springs are slightly different in 1.3 and 1.6 S-Cross. I double checked if it was the right part and confirmed by D16 label .

They checked both sides and left side was perfect. It was not weak as I had thought. It was as good as the new replaced one. So, I believe it has nothing to do with driving pattern. They also agreed that few parts supplied by vendors will have short life span / not perfect. Good news is everything covered under warranty except rubber parts. The car was out in 1 hour. I could feel significant improvement. There is no nose diving under hard braking and also the car doesn't feel floaty on corners now. The ride has also improved.

My right foot was heavy during this drive. I got 14 kmpl . The car performed very well : new updated Wolf map, new brake pads, new front strut were all tested haha. I would be driving back to Mysore in SX4 / Kwid.

The car was little dirty and needed a wash. It's been long time since I washed the car myself. It's always a good practice to wash the car on your own and you will get to know all new scratches .

What was used?

I had given the car to dad and expected him to use the car. He says he would not use the car at all and he is happy with Maruti 800 .

So, what's the status of my S-Cross??

Haha, actually this place is completely sealed. Rat proof I say . I did take some precautionary measures as the car won't be used for months.
