re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

The car has run 29,300 KM and it's time for service. I checked the oil level today and it was between minimum and maximum marking. All good, but some amount of oil is consumed. I believe that's normal.

I might have to drive around 800 KM this week. I will get the 30K KM service done after this trip .

Nice to see you clocking the kilometers in this brilliant car. About the oil consumption, our Punto 1.3 mjd consumed only negligible amount of oil between service (15k kilometers in our case). Maybe the 1.6 mjd does consume a bit of oil, if I were you I would keep a close look on the oil level.

Yes, even my SX4 1.3 had very less oil consumption till 80K km. It was just below maximum mark whenever it was time for oil change.

I always keep a close watch on oil levels. The dip stick reading is around 1 litre in most of the cars, when more than 1 litre of oil is consumed it should be at minimum mark. Anyways it is time to change the oil in another 700 KM. As you said this car is just brilliant to clock more more and more miles on highways .

Road trip again : Kasaragod to Mysore!

I drove 226 KM today and it took around 4.5 hours. The drive was good and Wolfed S-Cross 1.6 is just fantastic on ghats. FE was 15 kmpl, I do not complain considering the way I push the car .

Getting ready for the drive

You can order it from markets like UK where Scross comes with sunroof. Or, plan a road trip to UK and replace the roof. A pleasure trip cum upgrade. Desaadanam.

It's about the installation, cutting the roof panel and stuff. I won't mind driving to UK and exchange my S-Cross 1.6 with S-Cross 1.4 booster jet equipped with sunroof

The ODO is around 29.5k now. I am in Mysore and got no time to service the car here. Another 850 KM trip is up, Mysore to Kochi to Mangalore.

I checked all fluid levels. Oil level is in between maximum and minimum mark. Coolant levels are good and brake fluid level was little lesser. I had got MGP brake fluid bottle few months back. I topped it up.

It would be good drive from Mysore to Kochi. The car would get little more powerful at Kochi hopefully . I will get the service done immediately after this drive.

I reached Kochi at sharp 10 PM and got another map from Wolf Moto. Please check the details in my Wolf Moto thread.

I was in Kochi for 2 days, met few S-Cross owners. It was nice. Main purpose of this drive was to try few more maps and also meet a friend .

I have driven more than 2000 km in last 2 weeks, thanks to Goa & Kochi trip. Car has performed very well, no issues whatsoever. I need to get the service done soon. Time to give some rest to my 1.6.

30k KM Service Done :

I finally got the service done today. I would call this as a minor service as only engine oil, oil filter and cabin filter are changed. But, Maruti charges more for 30k km service. This is not right. I have escalated about it. Hope they rectify it. I got the service done at tier C service centre and labour charges are cheaper by around 1k.

I took the car for service at around 10 30 AM. This is a small town and they won't have parts for S-Cross 1.6. I always inform them in advance and make sure the parts are in stock. Due to some miscommunication, engine oil was not available. The dealer assured that they will arrange it and deliver the car by evening. They kept their word .

This was the first time I left my car at service centre. I did not bother much as it was just minor service.

They were doing final check for oil leak, when I reached service centre at evening. This is a good practice.

Many S-Cross 1.6 owners would think that my bill was very less. The catch is I got the service done at Tier C centre and stick to jobs mentioned in user manual.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I got to drive around 50 KM today. I noticed that there is good improvement in FE and NVH after engine oil change. I think the old oil was in bad state, thanks to high speed runs. It would have been nice if Maruti uses synthetic oil in S-Cross 1.6. I am planning to switch to synthetic or change the MGP oil more frequently.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I drove around 1000 KM in last few days. Kasaragod to Mysore, Mysore to Bangalore round trip, late night meet and drive in Bangalore etc .

It was so much fun. I can proudly say that my S-Cross 1.6 is the fastest one documented online (be it 0-100, in gear acceleration, top speed haha).

0-100 : G Tech

I met another S-Cross 1.6 owner. He was running with RD dual channel box. We decided to compare our cars. It was done on a closed road. My car with Wolf remap was miles ahead. We did many pulls and I could beat the other S-Cross by 3-4 cars length.

There are lot more acceleration videos. Please check my YouTube channel.

I took longer route on the way back to Mysore. This was done to fully test my car with new map, especially at higher speeds and top end. I am extremely happy with the results. Car performed very well. I have zero complaints.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

Issues :

1. Steering and Brake pedal vibration under high speed braking

This happens whenever I brake above 120 KMPH. Interesting part is it doesn't happen if I apply the brakes fully.

2. Squealing sound from brakes : if I apply brakes while reversing

This sound is intermittent and not present always.

I am not sure if these 2 issues are related. We have checked brake pads and discs. They are absolutely fine. What could be the culprit? Would it be related to any suspension parts?

To me this looks like a brake issue. The rotors may be warped (check the run-out values) and/or the pads friction material worn out unevenly. This cannot be ascertained visually but only by taking off the wheels. You'll need to dismantle the brake rotor and caliper to measure the run-out. The pads can be visually examined.

Take a look at the suspension (tie rods etc) bushings.

How long back were the discs and pads checked? If its been a while and since you've been busy doing your test runs ( ) then you may want to take another look at those parts.

Also, since you also frequently do performance tests use Permatex Ceramic or similar high quality high temperature brake caliper grease to coat the caliper pins and the **back** of the pads (non friction side) and any brake pad shims. Also consider upgrading your brake rotors and pads to high performance parts.

The red grease from TVS Girling & used by MSIL is ok for normal use but not for high output remapped cars.

PS - @Dr.Naren, this is the stuff, I have ordered the purple container from EU. Permatex Brake Lubes. And this one too Anti Seize compound to use on brake caliper bolts (not pins). I admit I am a nut with an OCD

I had changed discs and pads 5K KM back. During the recent service, we checked it again. They were fine.

Thanks a lot for this advice . I am planning to upgrade front pads and rotors. The car has become lot more powerful and brakes are just average.

Hmm..IMHO a lot can happen to those parts in 5K kms given the # of 0-100 launches you do.

And remember, disc rotors are not measured for run-out in a normal service at the ASC unless you tell the service advisor about have symptoms that you are experiencing OR the car clocks a certain # of kms. Take the SA for a test drive and let him experience/hear it for himself.

Also see if you can get performance brake shoes (S-Cross has rear drum brakes, right?) for your car.
