re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

400 KM Night Drive

I drove from Bangalore to Kasaragod yesterday night. A fellow S-Cross 1.6 owner also joined me. It was fun : Shell V power diesel, cooler IAT and empty roads!!

Average speed was 70 KMPH and total driving time was around 5.5 hours. We did take small breaks. My friend also drove the car for some time and appreciated how smoother and faster was my car compared to his S-Cross. He is also running a tuned S-Cross 1.6, but from different tuner. As a passenger I got scared in my car haha, It was really FAAAST!

Somewhere in Mysore. Guys, I did not lower my car

Good ownership thread, Dr.Naren. Been reading your thread from day 1 and got ton loads of information about S-Cross. Became a S-Cross fan and almost booked one, though finally switched over to Octy due to other considerations. The amount of enhancements and experiments you keep doing are awesome. Keep driving.

Note: Got admission just now. Hence the late comment.

Hi Naren - Quick question - A remapped car along with a Tuning box, won't this combination affect the Turbo?

Can you please clarify?

Yes, it is not safe for sure. But S-Cross 1.6 has a very good imported Garrett turbo. I would say this is over engineered for 1.6 L engine. Anyways I had done this only for testing. The box was removed next day and given back to my friend .

540 KM drive : Kasaragod -> Shimoga -> Kasaragod!

Passengers : 4
Boot : Fully loaded
AC : 100 percent

The car was not driven the way it was meant to be as it was a family trip . But, this drive was very much different from my usual highway driving. I enjoyed it. Wolf map was very helpful in climbing ghats with full load.

I started the car and there was no CEL or error codes. MAF reading was showing 178.9, that should be the maximum calibrated value. I took the car out for spin, there was good difference in throttle response and turbo kick feel.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I have driven almost 1000 km in last few days. The car is clocking miles effortlessly. The ODO has crossed 38k km now. I have observed that FE has improved all of a sudden, I got 15.5 kmpl in last 1000 kms. Also the engine feels the best now nearing 40k kms.

Current ODO

I wanted to get a quick wash. Google maps said Ultimate Detailerz at Jail Road Bangalore were just a km away from my apartment. I have no idea how I missed them .

The store owner, Mr. Jose was very friendly. He explained me different treatments available. I was very tempted to get the basic ceramic coating package, but it would take more than a day. Postponed it, was in a hurry.

I opted for their Ultimate wash + coat. It includes

1. Foam wash with PH neutral shampoo
2. Underbody wash
3. Claying
4. Hard water spots removal
5. Tar removal
6. Tyres & alloys deep clean
7. Interior vacuum
8. Dressing of dashboard and all door trims
9. Boot clean
10. Floor mats clean
11. Engine bay clean
12. Tyre dressing
13. Car Pro HydrO2 coat

The work done was very professional. They took almost 1.5 hours.

Few pics

The price was Rs. 1750. I would prefer this over 3M UV protect treatment which costs around 1.4 k.

40k km service, insurance renewal are approaching in few days. I am planning to add Ceratec during the oil change. I also need to get the bumpers painted.

Ultimate detailerz had done engine bay dressing too, I thought it was only clean up . Look at that shining coolant tank and hoses. Sorry for the poor quality image.

Carpro Hydr02 coat is interesting. There is no need to wipe the coat, just rinse it with water. It is very easy to apply. I am very impressed with hydrophobic effect. They claim it would last up to 3 months. This could be easy DIY, planning to source it in coming days .

The car has done around 500 kms more now. Bangalore -> Mysore -> Kasaragod. I drove from Mysore to Kasaragod yesterday and the drive was interesting .

It was so hot in Mysore, 39 degrees.

I was also surprised to see that car was not at all dirty after rain. CarPro Hydro2 coating had repelled away the water droplets. Hope it lasts for at least 2-3 months.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I have driven more than 600 kms in last 3 days. The drive was 200+ kms per day, Kasaragod to Manipal . I used to take only 1.5 hours at morning and it was 2 hours 15 mins at evening, thanks to traffic. I just wanted to experiment driving daily to Manipal. I was not at all tired because of S-Cross. But it was too expensive on pocket haha. I had to spend 1200 Rs on fuel and tolls per day. Also driving 200 + km every day started showing the drawbacks in day 3 itself. I lost right side ORVM glass because of an idiot in Swift.

I had to visit couple of service centres and finally found the glass at Mandovi motors Mangalore. The cost was Rs. 350.

I got the car on this date, 17 th May in 2016. The car has never let me down.

Smoked headlights and Euro grill would be the next mod.

I had got the insurance renewed few days back. I did not opt for zero depreciation and the cost was 19.5k from Maruti dealer.

Many would be knowing that I have changed front brake pads 5 times in 40k kms . I think even the rear pads are done now. I have observed the sound from wear indicator, posting a video of the same. The rear pads are imported by Maruti and costs around 6000 rs. EBC Green stuff or Dixcel Extra speed pads are available at cheaper price, that is more logical option than expensive OE pads.

I would be getting the 40k km service done in few days. Plan is to use liqui moly engine oil flush and then add Ceratec along with new engine oil. There are multiple scratches in front and rear bumpers, will get them painted.

Any more mods?

1. BMC DIA
2. Full free flow exhaust
3. Better front and rear brake pads (EBC / Dixcel)

Bigger turbo and intercooler mods have been postponed. I am back to college and do not get much time to do extensive testing haha.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

Good news : EBC Green Stuff brake pads have arrived!

I had mentioned few months back that I had got wrong EBC pads and it did not fit. K S Motorsports have got the pads which are compatible with Indian S-Cross now. The pricing is also very good at Rs. 5650. EBC UK website lists official price which is slightly more than this. Shipping charges and customs would be extra too.

Do note that Europe S-Cross pads are not compatible. We need SX4 Japan / Nissan Altima pads.

EBC green stuff is entry level performance pads from EBC. They are claimed to be better than OE pads. These pads are safe on rotors too. Brake dust is also minimal as per EBC.

Few Pics : Do read the written content on the box for more details.

Hi Dr Naren, I am intending to purchase a 2016 or 2017 1.6 Scross and had a few questions.
Is the engine euro 6 compliant since I am in Delhi and the fuel has already been introduced here.
Any points to check before buying the car?
They have between 17k to 27k on the odometer.

I know few S-Cross 1.6 owners in Delhi and they have not found any issues with BS-6 diesel. Few owners did report that engine was smoother with new fuel. S-Cross 1.6 is technically not Euro 6 as it doesn't have DPF.

1. Better to buy cars which have extended warranty.

2. Check the suspension, high pressure fuel pump, engine mounts, brake switch.

3. Get the full service history of the car from Maruti dealership. Avoid the car if it underwent any major repairs.
