re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I had given the car to dad and was not expecting to get it back for next 6 months. But I was missing my beast very badly and used to text dad asking too many questions about the car. I guess dad realised how badly I wanted the car back and finally he took my Kwid and boy, I got the 1.6 back .

I woke up little early today and wanted to drive ( within 150 KM). After quick search on Google, fixed on Shettihalli Church.. around 130 KM from Mysore. It was a very good drive and 1.6 loves cooler air.

Minor issue :

I was doing around 80 kmph and CEL popped up on MID. Car lost all the power and won't revv above 1500 RPM. I pulled aside and read the fault code using my OBD reader.

Error Code :P061C :Internal Control Module Engine RPM Performance

My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha | Stage 3 Wolf (202 HP / 438 Nm) | EDIT : Sold - Pg 61-screenshot_20170516071843933_org.prowl.torque.png

Possible causes :
1.Faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP)
2.CKP harness is open or shorted
3.CKP circuit poor electrical connection
4.Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP)
5.CMP harness is open or shorted
6.CMP circuit poor electrical connection
7.Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

https://www.autocodes.com/p061c.html

I did not delete the error code and restarted the car. It was all good and drove around 200 KM. I will get it checked at Maruti if this happens again.

I did not opt for Zero depreciation add on and the price was 24,260 Rs for insurance renewal. I went with Maruti insurance from ICICI Lombard.

It's been exact 1 year today and journey with 1.6 has been very good . I have driven close to 19K KM and have enjoyed every single KM. The issues I have faced are CEL with random error codes couple of times. But, I have seen many 1.6 S-Cross owners reporting the same. I hope the ownership journey would be trouble free ( considering the frequent mods happening in my car, haha)

A fine ownership review. Congratulations on the first anniversary of your beast.

Does she have the confidence to tackle the Ladakh route? Your thoughts please

Ground clearance may not be the issue here but my doubts are with regards to the 1.6 engine, considering the condition of roads on the hills.

It's just getting used to the engine. You will find the comfort zone : right gear and RPM to tackle hills. Planning to do that road trip after my exams Not to forget, my car is running with Wolf remap and decat downpipe. Hopefully I would be done with bigger turbo mod and stage 2 remap before this trip.

19K km / 1 year : Done with stock Elanzo tyres :

The tread wear is beyond the wear indicator and tyre change is a must now. Planning to upgrade with Continental MC5 205/60 R16

Boy, that is quite some wear for a hard compound like the JK Tyre. That too in 19000kms!! Needs an immediate change & Conti's are good with a good balance between grip and tyre life. Do post pics after the change.

The tyres were subjected to lot of abuse . 50 plus times 0-100 launches, aggressive cornering, unmentionable speeds etc. I had done wheel alignment and rotation at around 7500 KM. Tyres were good then. What I have observed is after 50 percent of tread wear.. The rate of tread wear increased exponentially.

I was about to say that too.

Dr. Naren seems to the first man on earth () to have used up the treads of a JK tyre within 20,000km. I have seen JKs go on and on without even a semblance of tread wear. They are known to twist, turn, harden, rupture and what not, but seldom lose their depth/thickness. Seeing the beast that his car is turning out to be because of various performance mods, its good that the tyres are being let go. A new set of quality tyres will help exploit the full potential of the car.

@Dr. Naren, any updates on the CEL?

Stock JK Vectras in my SX4 lasted around 45k KM. I think the Elanzos gave up early as they were subjected to heavy abuse. But, I cannot rule out faulty wheel alignment too. Left tyres had much more tread wear.

I always wanted better rubber. But dad wanted the stock tyres to wear out and I am happy, haha.

It did not come back. Driven 400 plus KM. Anyways I am planning to get the ECU harness checked during 20K km service.

The front tyres should be changed soon. Rear tyres have little more tread left, but I will change all 4 tyres next week

Few clips of the fog lamp cover were broken. I had bought new covers few months back. But, I was waiting for XP Micro installation to be done and then put the new ones.

Clean new fog lamp covers on otherwise dirty car

I was against using diesel additives and never bothered to try it. But, few of my friends had given good feedback about Liqui Moly diesel additives. Finally, I decided to try it out and ordered from Amazon India. I used the entire bottle (250 ml) with full tank of Shell diesel.

I drove for around 60 KM to check the results. As per my analysis..

1. Engine was little smoother

2. No difference in acceleration : tested both 0-100 and in gear timing

The product claims improvement in acceleration under partial load and I couldn't see any improvement even here.

Would I buy this again ?

Never!!

True, these additives work to some extent only if you have an issue like clogged injectors etc. Claims of better acceleration is just hogwash.

Shashi

So called performance fuel additives don't really improve your car's performance and even in the long shot that they really do something, the performance will be minor and probably imperceptible.

Not worth the money IMO which is why many including myself have stopped filling premium fuels. The only thing I use is STP injector cleaner (my cars have petrol engines) twice a year.
