re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

Good choice. A black shade would further enhance the look of the alloys of SX4 in your car if you plan on getting it done

Seriously! The best looking alloys on an S-Cross so far! I know this is a personal taste issue, but I really did not much like the OZ/BBS/Sparco wheels others fitted to their S-Cross'es so far.

I am amazed!!!

I am not a fan of dark rims like your MGA rims. On dark surroundings these silver wheels add a bit of contrast and make the wheels look larger though they are the same size.

I also like these alloys on S-Cross. It looks much better than my previous diamond cut alloys. I have received messages from couple of friends saying that this setup looks really good. Maruti should have just got these alloys as OE in S-Cross . Timeless design, perfect this is!

I had installed new rotors, brake pads and even changed all tyres and alloys. All this was done so that I can drive the car peacefully next day. But, it did not happen. Dad took the car out . I was just standing and watching him drive. The car looked lovely with SX4 alloys. I took a video .

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I had not driven the car since last 2 weeks, hence no updates about new rotors, brake pads and tyre swap impressions .

I drove around 150 km in last 2 days. I found that the brakes are just pathetic. I couldn't figure out what was the culprit. But it got better after braking couple of times. Now it feels as good as stock setup. I am expecting it to improve a bit more after fully bedding in.

Now coming to the tyres, I could immediately notice change in tyre noise. Falken tyres are much more noisy if compared to Continental MC5. The ride is also not as comfy as MC5. Grip and high speed stability was above average, nowhere close to MC5.. But I would say it is better than Elanzo. What disappointed me the most was braking. I had to do few sudden braking and the tyres screeched like anything. I am happy with SX4 alloys, but the tyre swap from SX4 was a bad move. I am planning to change all 4 tyres soon. I am very interested in Yokohama BluEarth. They are superb VFM tyres and very well balanced in terms of NVH, ride and grip.

Thanks to last 1000 km driving experience in Baleno, Wolfed S-Cross 1.6 felt like a monster. Gental tap on A pedal and the car was just shooting . I was loving every moment when I floored the pedal. Current ODO is around 35.5k KM. I have driven a lot this year. I am sad to mention here that my driving would be reduced a lot soon. Post graduation course will start in few weeks and I would not have any free time like now. Kasaragod to Mysore to Bangalore drives would be missed. Bigger turbo, uprated intercooler, direct air intake etc have been postponed. I need to improve the braking before I try experiment to gain more power.

Current Plans :

1. New set of tyres (Yokohama BluEarth / Continental MC5 / Michelin P3ST)

2. Dixcel Brake pads

I am planning to go with entry level ES (Extra Speed) type brake pads for rear. Front needs better pads. Dixcel has Z type pads, reviews are impressive. But it is too expensive, close to 20k. I need to think over it.

3. Quick visit to Coimbatore :

I need to dyno the car, this is pending since couple of months.

4. A long road trip before I join PG course!!

Glaco Japan : Windshield water repellant

I was happy with this product in Baleno. The same was applied on S-Cross today. It hardly takes 10-15 minutes.

Short Video

Glaco claims it is effective after 45 kmph. This is not true, it works only after 80 kmph. Overall, worth for the price. Windshield also becomes very smooth and helps in clean wipe.

I drove around 220 KM today, drive to Manipal and back home. It was fun. The performance was just brilliant with Reliance diesel.

I also met Manipal Bhpians samaspire and carfreak. We went for a short spin in carfreak's Octavia RS. I got to experience stock RS for the first time as a back seat passenger .

Thanks to this, I stayed back in Mysore. I would get it fixed here and then drive to Bangalore today. Braking has really improved, it was just bedding in of new rotors and pads. A poor puppy decided to cross the road all of a sudden, I managed to reduce speeds in time. ABS also helped to brake and steer at same time.

I removed the punctured tyre and put spare. On inspection there were 5 nails . The tyre was clean when I swapped it from SX4. All these happened in last 600 km.

I got it fixed. Only one nail had punctured the tyre. Rest were superficial and there was no leak. Paid Rs. 100. It was just fixed with a plug from outside.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

Did I switch from Wolf Moto to RD Tuning box?

No. The car is still running on Wolf remap.

Why tuning box? Tuning box + remap?

Yes. This is just to experiment certain things. I have done this before in Grand I10 too. Fully inspired by my mod guruji sankar.

How is the car to drive with remap + tuning box?

Well, My Grand I10 did have significant gains after installing RD box on top of TOT map. But, it was not the case in S-Cross. The gains are there for sure.

I have noticed the following in P2 mode.

1. Engine is lot more smoother. Diesel clatter has reduced at idling. I could see the box making changes in rail pressure even at idling.

2. The car is lot more free revving.

3. Marginal difference in low end.

4. Mid and Top end have improved.

5. The car smokes a lot. I could see it easily in ORVM.

P1 mode : Not much difference

E mode : There is significant power drop at top end.

My friend was running his S-Cross 1.6 with RD dual channel box. He got Wolf remap and was not using the box. I just picked it up to test for few days. I did couple of 0-100 runs. It was too hot today. IAT was touching close to 70 degrees. Still I got very impressive timing of 8.1 seconds with Wolf Map + RD dual channel box (P2 Mode). I timed the car only on Wolf map and the timing was 8.8 seconds. I would expect box to have bumped up the power by at least 15 HP. Oh yes, it should be close to 180 HP now . I am happy to report that clutch was holding very well.

Best timing of the day

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha : Stage 3 Wolf (~200 HP / 420 NM). EDIT : 5 years & 72,000 km up!

I did few 0-100 runs today with Wolf map + RD Box. There is not much improvement from my previous timings.

The reasons are

1. 36 degrees ambient temperature
2. IAT : 65-70 degrees
3. Falken tyres (my previous best timings were with MC5 which held the launch much better)

I launched at 2750 RPM, still there was massive wheel spin. If you observe the video carefully the speeds dropped at 40 kmph because of wheel spin even while shifting from 1st to 2nd. Still the timing was as good as my previous runs with Continental tyres and IAT : 40-45 degrees.

Do note that my car is already much faster than stock S-Cross 1.6. This is why there is no significant difference in 0-100 timings. The power gains would be 15-20 HP with tuning box. Overall the performance is very good. But this combo is not safe and not adviced. It is done only for testing. I wanted to check how S-Cross chassis would handle the additional power. I just wish car had better brakes.
