All the pads were changed at end of life. The car touches high speeds really quick and braking from there has a lot of wear on brake pads. I see a huge improvement in brake pad life after I changed my driving style, Thanks to ICE upgrade

I don't understand the logic behind doctor driven tag for used car sales. Doctor driven cars are usually not babied nowadays , haha!

It's basically because most doctors (90% of the elderly and the fairer sex) are not passionate about driving and hence are quite sedate. Even if they have a chauffeur, the car will always be driven extra gentle.

And given the socio-economic status, they don't think twice about maintenance expenses/bodywork. So it's a notion that doctor used cars are pristine, which in most cases is true too.

Hi Naren,

Have you seen any real-world benefits of KYB shocks and Eibach lowering springs?

Does it scrap the underbelly in roads of Manipal/Udupi?

Also, do the KYB struts have adjustable damper settings?

Maybe you should kit your ride with coilovers, the drivability and handling will improve leaps and bounds.

2. Brake pads: I have used more than 10 sets of front brake pads and 2 sets of rear brake pads in 65k kms. It's purely because of my driving which has changed for the good recently. It was a welcome transition from pedal to metal to cruising. I have tried super cheap to super expensive brake pads and all have given similar life. EBC yellow stuff was the best I tried till date.

3. Brake rotors: I had upgraded to Dixcel slotted rotors (front) at around 40k kms. Rear rotors were skimmed once at 68k kms.

This is the car I have driven the most and in love with the ownership / modifications experience.
Given how much you have extracted out of that car, its really held up well and I really respect the car for what it is. Such a pity the 1.6 is no longer available. The modification potential also looks very good going by your experience. Lets see what happens to my SX4 once I return from Germany. If I dont find a worthy replacement, I will plonk some money and convert it to a project car but one that can be used as a daily driver as well. At least the underpinnings are built tough in these cars and thats something I would not expect from most cars these days which are more focused on bling and fancy features.

Regarding brake pads, for what I have driven the SX4 it has hardly lasted 15k kms at a time for me and I would not call myself too sedate nor the most aggressive. So in your case I can understand the consumption. Since the weight is concentrated in the front, the front brakes would do most of the job all the time. The rear will only be effective when there is load on the back seat.

I think this car will be a keeper for you, so enjoy many more years with it and drive safe

Yes, there is good improvment in handling and even the ride quality. I was surprised to find better ride post lowering springs, may be due to progressive type of springs.

The drop is too much at front, more than 40 mm. The front does scrap on bad roads.

No, they are just OE replacement shocks with better ride and handling.

Agreed. None available from reputed brands.

How do you rate the performance of the TVS APACHE ceramic pads compared to the other brake pads that you have used?

I have a set of TVS HI-PER brake pads in the boot. Not really sure if they are ceramic pads, no mention as such. I will update once I install them. I know couple of S-Cross owners using these pads and find it better than OE. TVS markets it for performance and fellow owners have found more brake dust with these pads, so it's unlikely to be ceramic pads.

HI-Per comes in two variants , one of them is ceramic. I guess the one's for SCross are not ceramic.
Check this listing for XUV. The package/box says HI-PER Ceramic.

What about the legality of these mods? Aren't any modifications from stock considered illegal as per law?

Car modifications are not legal as per the law. There was a Supreme Court verdict on the same.

Suprised to find that my S-Cross has achieved 2nd best braking figures in Indian Dragy leaderboard . Credits goes to Eibachs, KYBs, and Michelins. I am using super cheap brake pads (KBX at front and Driveline at rear). Dixcel slotted rotors are fully plain too . I can't wait to time it again with performance pads like EBC Yellow Stuff.

100-0 kmph (Dragy leaderboard)
