re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha | Stage 3 Wolf (202 HP / 438 Nm) | EDIT : Sold - Pg 61

Very happy to see you have squeezed out the best from the original S-Cross. I drive an Ignis, but am a big fanboy of the SCross, a large crossover that also drives and handles like a hatchback. Have set my sight on getting a pre-owned 1.5 petrol MT in the near future once prices fall further, now that the new Vitara has come. SCross with 4 disc brakes, comfy seats, good space and decent engine gives a big bang for the buck, more so in the used car market.

Having 200 bhp does not impress me, but having it with such bullet proof reliability amazes me. Such performance modifications with reliability are hard to come across. Your S Cross is an epitome of a reliable sleeper car. A very well jotted down post, I'll be glued to this thread for further updates pertaining to your S Cross.

Great thread, I think your S-Cross has to be the fastest one in the country right now. It looking clean with tasteful mods instead of any ricer mods make it the perfect sleeper, I'm sure you must've made lots of boy racers on big SUVs very angry on the highways

I must say that you really believe in the capability of the MJD to be able to push it to 200+. I know a lot of people who have remapped their diesel cars but very few dare to go beyond a stage 1+ tune because of fears of some critical and expensive component getting damaged.

Small suggestion, if you can extend the cutoff of the A pillar wrap a little downwards, from the side window edge to the edge where the bonnet end meets the body, I think will look really cool. At night, on your bright white car, the roof will seem like its completely floating.

Unrelated, but what do you think of the 1.5 TDCi, does that engine have enough headroom like the MJD and VW TDIs. I know it's a global engine but I do not know much about it apart from that. I have a Ford with that engine that I bought as a project car, I want to get an idea of how much I can push it reliably since i intend to daily drive it and who else to ask other than the guy who nearly doubled his cars output

True that. The car was tuned when ODO was less than 5k km. I have also run close to 50k km with Stage 3 setup. Very impressed with the reliability

Have not come across any stage 3 builds in India. Spend some time on Ford forums and check if owners abroad have done this. Is it All aluminium engine in Ford ? If so, I am skeptical on pushing the engine to double horsepower/ stage 3.

Where is Xenon it located? I have been wanting to upgrade my 6 year old alpha projectors for quite some time. Would be great if you could point me to a good place in Bangalore.

Xenon_it is located in Mumbai. I believe light xpertz are good in Bangalore, but the pricing is expensive from what I heard.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha | Stage 3 Wolf (202 HP / 438 Nm) | EDIT : Sold - Pg 61

The ODO is up by 2500 km since the last update. I also got few parts changed.

Clutch Kit , Release bearing, and Flywheel

I had sourced the clutch kit and release bearing last year itself from Boodmo. Since there was mild noise on pressing clutch pedal, thought the bearing is bad and decided to get the parts replaced.

Headed to my trusted and most experienced garage in Bangalore for S-Cross 1.6.

The clutch release bearing was in good shape. Even the pressure plate and clutch disc were fine, really surprised that these parts handled so much torque and also 150+ launches .

Oh wait, so what was the sound ? It was the flywheel

The flywheel cost is around 30k and it's very difficult to source. Maruti has 35 back orders for flywheel. We checked at a MGP store in Bangalore and even they had 5 back orders. There was no way I could source a new flywheel. All the parts were removed and it didn't make sense to install only new clutch and bearing. Jayant at EE comes up with solution, he says let's try getting an used flywheel in good condition. He was able to source an used flywheel in good shape within 2 hours from a total loss S-Cross.

Pics of old parts:

I could have easily driven more without changing these parts. All the parts are made by Valeo.

The culprit, Dual Mass Flywheel

It's a well known fact that DMF is not very reliable. So this was expected. The flywheel had slightly more play. Also if you observe the pics closely, the gap around the centre bearing has increased.

Let's compared the used flywheel sourced by EE vs mine

My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha | Stage 3 Wolf (202 HP / 438 Nm) | EDIT : Sold - Pg 61-img_20220903_125808.jpg

The one on left is the used flywheel which we got from a total loss car. This one doesn't have uneven clearance around the centre bearing. The play was also lesser. I was really lucky to get this flywheel at less than half of price of new and mainly, the car would be drivable. There was no point keeping my car in garage and try my luck waiting for new flywheel. I will anyways try to source a new flywheel and keep as spare.

I didn't click any pics of the installation as I had to leave the workshop. But, EE will do the job right and they have experience in dealing with almost all kinds of jobs in S-Cross 1.6.

I got the car back next day. The sound was gone for good and also the shifts were lot better. I have driven more than 2000 km after this change and everything looks good. Excellent job by EE as always.

Quick trip to Yelagiri after clutch + flywheel change

I was easy on the clutch as it needs bedding in. The car performed well , no issues climbing up the hill.

re: My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha | Stage 3 Wolf (202 HP / 438 Nm) | EDIT : Sold - Pg 61

Brakes:

I have lost the count of brake pads changed in 90k km. Approx life is 8k km for front pads, thanks to high speed runs and high speed braking. Dixcel slotted rotors were installed when the ODO was 45k km. They are fully plain now and worn out. I have experimented different brands when it comes to brake pads. Be it super cheap 800 bucks pads or the expensive 12k brake pads, the life was same. EBC Yellow Stuff was the best, I would say.

What was installed this time ?

1. Front rotors: K-Tek
2. Rear rotors: MGP
3. Front brake pads: Gomechanic
4. Rear brake pads: Super circle

Front rotors: K-Tek

Bought it from Boodmo. The packaging looks good, also do not miss the detailed instructions given on the box. I was impressed with the quality too , feel wise.

Rear rotors: MGP

Rear braking is minimal in S-Cross, this is the first time I would be changing the rear rotors.

Front pads: Gomechanic

These are semi-metallic, temperature resistance is rated at 600 degrees. Not sure if it's real, anyways decided to try it out.

Rear pads: Super Circle (pics taken from Boodmo, as I missed to click pics)

Left: 45k km run Dixcel slotted front rotors, can't even believe these were slotted rotors. Right: 90k km run MGP rear rotors

My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha | Stage 3 Wolf (202 HP / 438 Nm) | EDIT : Sold - Pg 61-img_20220817_150507.jpg

I have driven more than 2000 km after the brake pads and rotors change. The braking felt very average and also the bite was weak for initial 300 km. It eventually got better after bedding in period. I am happy with the parts used. Braking is predictable and the initial bite is good.

However, I do not believe gomechanic pads has temperature resistance of 600 degrees as claimed.

My Maruti S-Cross 1.6L Alpha | Stage 3 Wolf (202 HP / 438 Nm) | EDIT : Sold - Pg 61-screenshot_2022090315183172_fd1e8ef594b195c55a3bba4818d0ce35.jpg

I did observe brake fade, it was just slightly better than OEM pads. EBC Yellow Stuff was just brilliant when it comes to temperature resistance, but too expensive at 12k for a set.

Tyres & Wheels:

I had run more than 25k km with Michelin P4ST. Even at the end of life, the grip, comfort, and noise were as good as new.

I ideally change tyres when tread depth is 1.6 mm. Continental UC6 215/60 R16 was sourced few months back during Amazon sale, good deal at 7500 / tyre. I was about to get these tyres installed, but dad came up with an idea. SX4 was not used much and Kenda tyres in SX4 had 5 mm tread left, So.....

Dad helped me in this swap. I cleaned all the wheels. Lenso wheels are lighter by 1.5 kg compared to SX4 OE wheels. I had good experience with Kendas in SX4, it was time to test them in S-Cross. I drove almost 1000 km with Kendas (Kasaragod to Trichy to Bangalore). The tyres performed good in terms of dry grip, comfort, and noise levels. Wet grip was average though. I met few S-Cross 1.6 owners and they were surprised with Kendas, nobody expected these tyres to be this good haha.

MGA Valve Caps:

I wanted to try ordering accessories online, decided to buy some minimal value part. I ordered MGA tyre valve caps on the official website and paid using loyalty points. I was contacted by the dealer next day and informed that part would be sourced in a week.

New Stage 3 Wolf Tune:

Rajiv asked me to try out a new map. This was based on his learning experience from VAG and BMW diesels. He told me that the feedback was very good from the customers and wanted to try implement the same in other diesel cars too. I am always up for remap experiments and happily agreed haha.

At Engineering Exponents (Yes, they are Wolf Bangalore dealers)

The new map was flashed and we went out for drive for logging various parameters like injected fuel quantity, rail pressure, MAF, boost, IAT, etc.

How's the new tune ?

1. Engine is very refined
2. Super linear but strong power delivery. It doesn't feel like an aftermarket tune at all, very mature and OEM feel.
3. Significant drop in smoke levels

Ok, I am done with the updates. Need to get the timing kit changed, will be doing at Engineering Exponents.

EE, like always does a stellar job in maintaining or tuning our cars!

Your car is a testament of how much a tuned engine can take one across. Keep munching em miles!

I got the setup done at Galaxy premium car accessories, Kochi. The official importer is BBW distributors Gurugram.

The price might vary as I got the Gladen setup 2 years back. It was around 10k for M10 and 29k for components.

Thanks for the prompt reply doctor. It is always a pleasure to read your posts & i have never ever seen anyone doing these many mods in one' s car. Kudos to you. You also have a great taste for music/ ICEing. I dropped an email on the BBW I'd however it's been 5 days but then have not reverted. Any contact to source Gladen m10 sub shall be appreciated.

Also, anyone having first hand experience of Ground Zero sub or damping? Are these good enough? If yes, any contact for someone dealing into Gz

Hi all, I want to upgrade the stock fog lamps of my 2021 Scross to projector set up. Can you suggest some good places in Bangalore where I can purchase a set and have them installed? EVO is a name I see a lot in Google search. Anyone got prior experience with them or can suggest a good place?
Many thanks!

Buy from www.autosquads.in and ask Nibir where to install it. He can get home installation done too.
