re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

Went on a quick trip to Bangalore and back.

The tyres had already run around 53,000 kms. I thought I would change after this trip. But there were other plans in store for me. One of the tyres gave up the ghost so had to change all the tyres in Bangalore.

Got UC6 tyres for 7500 per tyre at Shiva Enterprise near MS Ramiah hospital. Madhu's also quoted the same price but they were far away so had to settle for an alternate shop. Shiva enterprises did a good job, was in and out in 45 minutes.

Special thanks to Dr.Naren and other S-Cross owners who helped identify possible tyre shops in Bangalore!!

The ODO stands at ~84,000 kms.

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

My vehicle's gear knob was almost busted with the rubber parts peeling off and cracking almost along the entire knob. This is the first car that I have owned or driven for a significantly long period that is having this issue. For the S-Cross 1.6, the entire assembly needs to be changed to replace a gear knob which comes to around 5000+ Rs.

Thanks to the S-Cross owner's whatsapp group, took an alternate route available which was buying the Ciaz Diesel gear knob from BoodMo (part no. 28113M72R20-C48), removing the gear indicator from the old and sticking it on to the new one. Whole exercise was done for 570 Rs

Look at how good the gear knob of a premium offering is at 87000 km on the ODO

Took out the Ciaz's gear markings out from the new knob...

And did a fevi qwik of the existing gear knob's markings on to the new one

No worries for another 87,000 kms !!

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

Some Updates:

Went on 2 trips, Chennai - Madurai and Chennai - Bangalore in the last 2 weeks for family visits. In the Chennai - Madurai return trip, I got a mileage of 23KMPL (indicated) as it was raining continuously and was mostly at speeds of 90 KMPH or so

The Chennai - Bangalore trip was also routine trip, with one exception, got the car remapped !! Remap was done by Engineering Exponents, Bangalore, who are an authorized dealer for Wolf remaps. During the 500kms or so I have driven since then, the low and middle ends have improved considerably, did not check too much the high end. Also got my rear brake pads changed there itself.

Car touched 90,000 kms on the odo and is currently at 902XX kms. The 90,000 service at ABT Sholinganallur came to around 13000 with a bearing change in the front right wheel. My steering controls are kaput, have requested them to place a request for the contact coil, will get it fitted when the part arrives.

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

Long pending Update:

Went on a road trip to Goa in the last week of October. Route was Chennai - Bangalore - Tumkur - Hubli - Ramnagar - Tinai Ghat - Cavelossim. Return was also the same route, with a halt at Bangalore both times

3rd trip to Goa, so was fuss free and the Tinai Ghat diversion recommended by Parag was a god send on the BLR - GOA thread as the Anmod route looked to be pretty bad. Had a good 1 week break just before Diwali!

Odo stands at 94XXX kms.

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

The car has touched the 1,00,000 mark in 5 years and 9 months. This is my first vehicle to touch this milestone.

Did the service as well, and it came to around 24,000 with a windshield replacement cost of 10,000 rupees and other miscellaneous items such as horn replacement, steering control contact coil replacement etc.

Have a trip to Coorg coming up next week, looking forward to it

Odo stands at 1,00,4XX kms

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

Update after quite some time:

The car's 110,000 km service was performed sometime back, most of the parts including the timing belt appeared to be ok. The Flywheel was changed after an agonizingly long waiting period, which was a major expense.

The next service is due now as the car has run around 122,000 kms. I am expecting to probably spend some money on the suspension as the service center had told that it would have to be changed during the next service. Another possible change is the tyres. I had changed to UC6 at around the 80,000 km mark and may have to change it

The vehicle has been doing its usual runs within the city and I also had a MAS - BLR trip and a MAS - CBE - Kumarakom - Kochi - CBE - MAS trip over a period of 10 days as part of the summer break. The car performed as usual, no fuss, just fill it and drive.

As of now, no thought of changing the car. What this car continues to give for 15L (with a remap and Diesel fuel) , I do not think I can get now without spending a lot more.

Amazing car and an amazing journey! Congrats! I keep posting this thought of mine many a times that Fiat's biggest failure in India was not being able to monetise the 1.6 MJD.

re: The Sleeper | My Maruti S-Cross 1.6 Alpha | 140,000 kms completed

Long pending update:
  • The car has clocked 1,40,000 kilometres so far
  • The timing belt and associated parts were changed at around the 1,25,000 km mark at a private garage since the service centres were quoting a very long waiting period for the parts
  • They did not do a very good job of it as some minor details were overlooked which resulted in the engine oil sporadically leaking. Took the car to an authorized service centre and this was rectified
  • The CEL lamp came up and it was diagnosed to be a brake switch issue as the cruise control was also not working. Part order was placed and swapped after about a week or so.
  • Tyres were changed at the 1,32,000 km mark. I used the same brand *UC6) again as found them pretty good the first time around. This is the 4th set of tyres for the car. Swapped from JK to MC5 I think at the 30,000 mark then changed to UC6 at 80,000 and now at 1,32,000 km
  • Performed the 1,30,000 at the 1,32,000 mark and will wait for another 2000 km to get the next service in
  • Vehicle continues to do what is asked of it and give a good mileage as well. As of now, there is no plan to replace the vehicle as I don't find the need to do so
  • Here's to a trouble free ownership for the next 2 years or so (touch all woods!!)

ODO stands at 1,40,001 km
