Sensible thing to do considering how diesel Marutis hold their value in the used car market compared to selling the Storme.

The storm also gives you the two extra seats when needed.

Would love to see the updates on the storm.

re: Safari love story Part 2 | Prassy's 2018 Tata Safari Storme VX 4x2 Varicor 400 | 73000 km completed

Update :

Odo : 27,322 km

So the storme has been doing regular duties to me as the daily driver for about a week now. 554 km completed.

Pretty happy that the previous reported fuel efficiency of 13.5x kmpl has been consistent in this tankful too. Half tank (still a little over half tank mark) got me a very decent 384 km)

Safari love story Part 2 | Prassy's 2018 Tata Safari Storme VX 4x2 Varicor 400 | 73000 km completed-screenshot_202102061235052.png

So it's a consistent 13.5 kmpl fuel efficiency.

I guess it would improve if the rear ac isn't used much. I have had 100% front AC usage with 50% rear AC usage in this week.

Tyre pressure is set at 34 psi at all wheels. I will maintain 33 psi from the next air check.

re: Safari love story Part 2 | Prassy's 2018 Tata Safari Storme VX 4x2 Varicor 400 | 73000 km completed

The truck has nicely replaced the ciaz and have slotted perfectly for my usage. I have become as proficient with the slightly larger dimension (storme is 15 cm longer and 10 cm wider) as I was with my Ciaz, which means I can drive with precision of mere cm, and that scares quite a few car owners when I park this behemoth in tight parking spaces when they totally believe I am going to give them a big dent. That's quite some fun in itself, those looks I get until they realise I have finished parking it safely

The fuel efficiency is a consistent 13.5 kmpl. I have driven close to 900 km since Feb 1st. The fuel consumption data :

Safari love story Part 2 | Prassy's 2018 Tata Safari Storme VX 4x2 Varicor 400 | 73000 km completed-screenshot_202102091545562.png

The storme is set to do a 400 km trip tomorrow to Salem and beyond. I will not be driving it as I am held up at work, dad will be driven around by the driver. With his habit of not staying in the right gears and lugging the engine, I am expecting the fuel efficiency to drop to 11.5 ish kmpl or worse, even though it is majority national highways. Let's wait and see what figure comes up during the next refill.

For now, the truck signs off . .

A chauffer not downshifting on time and lugging an engine is being negligent, isn't he? I'd be jobless if I were found to be negligent by the management/my employer.

True, but he is like family. Been our driver for over a decade. We can trust him in any scenario. So this flaw of him, we ignore. He drives the smaller cars pretty decently though.

It's not that he intentionally does that, but it is his habit and he somehow doesn't learnt. He is in his early fifties and a cancer survivor too. So we don't treat him like a driver at all. A good soul, just bad at driving the storme. Surprising that he was pretty comfortable with driving the Safari Dicor. Guess the additional 6th cog messes up with his shifts.

re: Safari love story Part 2 | Prassy's 2018 Tata Safari Storme VX 4x2 Varicor 400 | 73000 km completed

The Storme is back from the intercity run, clocking a good 512 km.

I refilled the tank and here is the actual fuel efficiency for my driver's driving. Honestly, I expected much lesser.

12.74 kmpl

Safari love story Part 2 | Prassy's 2018 Tata Safari Storme VX 4x2 Varicor 400 | 73000 km completed-screenshot_20210211182120.png

That's good considering the car was run with 2 extra people than usual, and the rear AC was ON 100% time. I don't use the rear AC when I drive solo or with shotgun. I need to take the truck to a long highway trip to see how much I get.

The odo climbing pretty fast

28,160 km

That's about 1400 km since I took the car on Feb 1st.

Meanwhile, I had to use this little cutie for 2 days & 210 km. Gosh, I missed my storme (and my beloved Ciaz) so much on bad roads.

Good 2250 km since February 1st.

Fuel efficiency is 13 kmpl (plus or minus 0.25 kmpl). Diesel prices are scary and no one does anything about that in this country.

Looks like you are maintaining the 100kms per day average, that you started the month with.

One month of Storme V400 being the daily driver

One month, 3000 km of using the storme for almost everything, from work to gym runs to grocery hauls, I must say that I have settled in completely with the SUV. My driving habit has changed a little, making me accomplish an amazing 14 kmpl (13.96) over a full tank of diesel. I must admit that I am pretty impressed by the Varicor 400 engine. This was 40:30:30 - Rural : Highway : City. AC ON 100% times. If it was a long highway journey, I am sure it would deliver 14.5 kmpl.

That extra 80Nm torque and extra gear makes it easy to keep the engine relaxed and eventually deliver a much better performance and fuel efficiency.

Making it a habit to refill every Sunday. Hopefully my weekly usage won't cross 700 km most of the weeks.

Stats from this month

Best fuel efficiency 13.96 kmpl, worst 12.74 kmpl (remember the highway trip by driver)

Average cost per km is a respectable 6.33 rs/km. I wish the diesel prices werent so high though

Safari love story Part 2 | Prassy's 2018 Tata Safari Storme VX 4x2 Varicor 400 | 73000 km completed-screenshot_202102280632072.png

664 km in the last tank, the low fuel warning light yet to glow. So it's 750 km on full tank of diesel. Very decent!

I was wrong and how!!

Last 5 days was hectic with my work, clocking 750 km! And even after 743km of driving, the low fuel warning didn't come up. I just love this storme with every day passing. I was planning about having refills every Sunday, but this week's workload on storme forced me to do it today.

Looks like 800+ km to a full tank is easily possible with a gentle driving style.

I got an amazing 9 year best of 15.37 kmpl

15.4 kmpl from a 154 BHP SUV!

That's a lifetime achievement with regards to driving, considering my previous driving style and complete lack of self control with gunning down the cars to redline.

9 years of driving Safari and this is the best fuel efficiency figure. Thanks to that amazing Varicor 400 engine and that 6 speed MT box.

It has been 33 days since Storme V400 has become my daily driver.

Overall avg fuel efficiency - 13.65 kmpl
Worst fuel efficiency. - 12.74 kmpl
Best fuel efficiency. - 15.37 kmpl

Odo currently at 30,450 km

Any reason to sell your Ciaz? I had been following your updates on your Ciaz and felt like you would keep the car for another 3-4 years/1L kms. It's a fantastic VFM car from MSIL.

Ofcourse a wonderful, underrated car it is! It is and will always remain one of my most beloved cars.

Reasons are simple, I would never use the storme as a daily driver if Ciaz was with me. I tried doing it before, and failed repeatedly. 26k km in 34 months was no justice to the storme.

I also got a good resale, the ciaz being 5.5+ years and 133k old. Downsizing the garage was another reason. We didn't need 4 cars now, as one of our family members has relocated abroad. It's just me and my dad using cars now. 2 cars are absolutely necessary, 3 are good in case one car is having a downtime for maintenance. 4 cars though, were too much. Ciaz was the oldest, with the largest mileage on clock, it had to go.

I might even sell both my small cars and buy one 10 lakh car later. Haven't decided yet. For now, I will be using the storme as a primary car atleast for the next 4-5 years (read - another 1.2 to 1.5 lakh km).
