The Osram kit that I used wasn't listed on the Osram website so not sure if it was original or not. Even I had the same doubt but a couple of them are using the same kit and it is working reliably for them.

Also any thoughts on fitting an aftermarket projector in the Fog lamp assembly?
No buddy. Leaving it as it is.

re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

Retrofit Aftermarket HID Projector

I've been searching a way to improve my Creta's headlight output since day 1. Tried XenonDepot HB3 LEDs and didn't help, then upgraded to OSRAM Night Breaker which gave a very slight improvement. Ever since I've been trying to find a DIY that retrofitted HID Projector in Creta, but I haven't found any so far. Finally after many days of research and browsing, I'm almost prepared to retrofit HID projector.

The main reason I'm not going with plug and play kit or XenonPlanet is because of the unknown ballast they are using. I would prefer to use Morimoto and kick of this DIY as a benchmark for others if this experiment comes out successfully (going to try with one headlamp first).

I've collated the required items below for a neat install which would most likely not require any splicing or tapping of OE wires. Estimated cost is around 27,300 but I think this is going to be an upgrade worth the effort & time. I verified compatibility of all these components to the best of my knowledge. If you guys find any incompatibility, lets discuss and find a way to fix it. Hope this information will help others to start with this DIY too
  • IPHCAR 3.0" Bi Xenon Projector Lens Rs. 7,000 - As many of you might know already, Xenonplanet is selling the lens under the name of 'XP Mini D2S V4'. I looked at both the listings very closely and verified indeed they are the same. I went with D2S version of the lens since there are OEM D2S bulbs on the market whereas the only reliable source for D2H is Morimoto. D2S and D2H are virtually the same except for the connection is D2H is pulled out so makes more room at the back side.

Size: 215.6 KB
  • TAOCHIS IX25 Frame Adapter for Q5 Lens Rs.1,800 - When retrofitting aftermarket lens onto stock housing, this bracket is needed to properly secure the lens. The seller claims it can fit Q5 lens which is same as the one I have chosen. Again verified the measurements against the bracket and the lens which is available in Aliexpress listing.

  • Morimoto D2S Elite 55W Ballast with 9005 Relay Harness Rs.10,500 - I wanted to go with Morimoto ballasts because of its quality and acclaimed reviews. I won't be going with their XB D2S bulbs however but I'm planning to use OSRAM D2S. I hope relay without CANBUS decoder should be OK (citation required), a year ago when I fitted a XenonDepot HB3 LED 25W, the car did not complain about less current draw.
(LED sucked by the way, probably due to the stock lens. I still have the 9005/HB3 XenonDepot LED kit in near mint condition, interested folks can contact me. I also bought a pair of H8 XenonDepot LED fog lamps which does not fit the H27 fog lamps of Creta)

  • OSRAM D2S Rs. 8,000, haven't decided on the variant yet. OSRAM manufactures only 35W bulbs so coupling it with 55W will overdrive the bulb and reduce the kelvin. Should do further research before finalizing. I prefer natural day light color between 4500-5800K than bluish white.

Have to order these parts and wait for them to arrive. This DIY will require atleast a week of my time. Will keep you guys posted, once done will post the updates in an appropriate thread. I need your inputs for now.

Gas Struts for Hood

On a side note, I recently purchased gas struts for the front hood from Aliexpress. Costed me Rs. 2,900 which is cheaper than the one found on ebay and this will also be very useful during the retrofit DIY.

Seller sent me this image after I asked for install instructions. Will post the final status after I receive and fit the component.

re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

Apologies for the on this thread. Both interc00led and me have completed the felt-lining DIY of the glove box in his Fiesta.

Since the materials used were the same and the process too, not going to repeat it. Posting the images directly.

MODIFICATION 31: Glove Box Felt Lining
In continuation of the glove box felt-lining exercise, the second step was to felt-line the two cup holders behind the gear lever that I use the most for all loose change, keys etc. The compartment ahead of the gear lever gets a rubber pad from the factory so no issue there but the rest cubby holes in the car are bare plastic that needs to be addressed.

Rather than making two separate circles, made it a single piece. Didn't use glue, just cut it to the right size so it doesn't move around.

Before felt-lining

Shall be addressing other parts (read cubby holes) too when I get time to work. Shall update as and when it is done.

The car is running reliably with no major issues except for one that happened two days ago.

After I reached work at 7 am and a gap of 9 hours, when I return to the car to leave for home, I was shocked to see "Key not Detected!" warning on the instrumentation console. Took it lightly thinking the key FOB battery would be dead so placed the FOB near the START/STOP button and pressed it and all I see is the instrumentation console flicker and no cranking. Gave a gap of 5 minutes and retried but the same issue. Frantically called BHPian interc00led and explain the issue. He asks me to jump/push start the car and see if it starts. Did a push start the car myself as the place the car was parked was on a mild incline so it was easy to get the car rolling, 1st gear and released the clutch, it fires-up! Since it was late already, I go home and inform my SA about the incident.

Next day, went to the ASC and they checked using the multimeter and find the voltage to be near 13V but the cracking voltage was near 10.3V. SA then spoke to the Service manager and they give me a letter printed on their letter-head addressing to the Exide Engineer to look into the issue and to push for a replacement (FOC). The Exide engineer takes the battery and gives me a service battery so they can do their tests over it before I am handed the new replacement battery. Initially, they were saying the battery is in good health but it was observed the cranking voltage to drop to 9.1V plus it was also found that 1 cell was defective.

I'll be getting the battery replacement on Saturday where I'll be taking the new Exide to the battery dealer and will exchange it for an Amaron instead.

Thanks for pointing this out. I saw a couple of other funny discrepancies too. Gearbox @ 30k. I recently bought a new gearbox for my 1992 M800, and it's price was Rs. 33k, for a simple 4 speeder.

Definitely not for the entire engine assembly. Maybe you'll get only the block. That too is highly doubtful. I asked my friend and DBHPian Leoshashi, a simple half engine for DDIS 1.3 costs close to 90k.

This looks like some random figures printed on the sheet to scare and convince prospective owners to get warranty extended, but is far from truth.

Read through the plan in detail and I don't see any issue. Am also trying to find out if I can get a HB3 9005 HID bulb to see if that improves the throw and intensity

I also see that you have indicated that LED setup was a failure - So wanted to find out what the issue was - Was the intensity poor or was the throw poor ?

Good to hear that the flash option works fine as this was one of the concerns raised by others too.

Are you referring to the black rubber grommet? If yes, it came in the kit.

Anurag, I would suggest you convert the fog lamps to OEM with 4300k LED until you sort out the headlamp upgrade. I presume, the bulb for fogs is H27/880/881 in which case it's difficult to source 4300k bulbs. If it's H11 or H8, there are plenty of high quality 4300k bulbs on AliExpress that will boost the lighting by a considerable amount. I have upgraded the fogs to LED in both our cars and its made highway drives less stressful
