Hyundai ASC fills in Synthetic engine oil if customer asks for. I had asked mySA earlier but he said let's start using synthetic from 30,000 kms service.

The ASC has stock of Shell Helix 5W40. Costs ~930 per litre.

Is it 5W40 or 5W30 ?
I see HASS using the latter here though i provide my own oil which is 5w40.
Using this full synthetic grade since last 3 years, 10k km servicing.

If I am not mistaken I think Maruti also has some recommended synthetic oils available at the dealership should you be interested. Please enquire with the MASS. Unless specified by the manufacturer dealerships default to mineral oil.

I saw the barrel labelled 5W40.

Manual recommends 5W30.

Might have been different then. Will recheck again this time.

Yes, manual has few options and none of them were 5w40

Thank you for the kind words.

No buddy not worried about loss of warranty. The SA is aware of the MODS and is aware that the car is remapped too. Just regret spending ~₹13,000 for extended warranty (could have spent it on fuel or MODS).

Couple more MODS are on the way (engine and electrical related).

ODOMETER UPDATE

ODOMETER: 30,000 kms
DURATION: 8 months

30,000 kms clicked
Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!-30000-kms-done.jpg

Since the odometer was nearing 30,000 kms just shy by 200 kms, decided to get the 4th Service done. Since I was having the engine oil to be used, my SA did not agree for customer procured engine oil to be used. Pinged Mr. Mayur Reddy (GT Tunerz, Hyderabad) since he owns two Hyundai's and has been using his own oil for the service. He gave me his SA's number and connected me to him (Mr. Badri).

4th Paid Service, following was done:
  • Engine Oil change (AMSOIL Synthetic 5W40)
  • Engine Air filter change
  • Engine oil filter change
  • AC Filter change
  • All joints, hinges were lubricated
  • Brake pads cleaned and inspected
  • Brake caliper pins cleaned, inspected and greased
  • Brake shoes cleaned and inspected

Took almost 2.5 hours for the service to complete and I was standing by the car at every step of the job.

re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

Yesterday had a Hyderabad Team-BHP meet which was a quick and short drive to Nagarjunsagar Dam.

Was a 419 kms drive in total, home to home and overall, I was very happy with the car and the way it behaved during the drive be it in wet conditions, flat roads or the twisties or on some broken patches. The car was smooth, silent to cruise in. The remap for 'low-end' helped a lot and 'power on demand' was even better making overtaking a breeze.

Hello sir, I have some doubts about this ORVM relay, I tried to search online but was not get able to get answers regarding it. Hope you can help.
Consider a case where you have to park the car in a tight space, so you close the mirrors manually with the button on the door panel, you park the car, lock and leave. After coming back when you unlock the car, will the mirror's open when you unlock the car or they stay closed until you open them manually again.
If they do open automatically after unlocking the car, is there anyway by which it can be prevented. Because I would not want my mirrors to force open on an obstruction on unlocking the car and cause damage.
Also does the switch on the door panel act as a master switch bypassing the relay or the relay bypasses the switch?

They'll stay in locked position as the "ORVM folding button" on the door panel is pressed. When you unlock, the ORVM will be in folded position until it is pressed again.

If you have manually closed it, locked the car, and unlock it again, it will remain folded.

Main switch is the by-pass for the relay.

I'll take a video and upload it by evening for better clarity.

re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

MODIFICATION #25: Stage 1 - Halogens (Philips 65W HB3) to HID (Osram XENARC 35W HB3)

In search of ways to improve lighting of the Creta, this is the first step I have taken which is swapping the Halogens to HID's.

Member from The Automotive India (Mr. Shubham) and another FB member of the Creta group Mr. Vikalp Chauhan who own a Creta themselves had done this upgrade on their respective cars which made me think about and follow the same.

The item to be searched for is: Osram Xenarc DHB3 4200K HID Kit. Here are the links for it:

1. Amazon.in;

2. PayTM Mall;

3. eBay;

4. Flipkart

Of all, bought it from PayTM mall and received the first shipment in 3 days. When I received the item, either the ballast or the bulb or igniter was faulty so contacted the seller and asked for a replacement. They agreed and asked to inform PayTM Mall for a return pick-up and once they receive the defective unit, a new set will be sent and that happened on 12th. Received the secomd set today and went straight ahead for the installation with the help BHPian interc00led at our favorite place, our FNG.

Cost of the Kit

Item Cost: ₹ 6,249
Cashback: ₹ 937
Net Paid: ₹5,312

Coming back to the lights...

What it was: Philips Xtreme Vision HB3 (60W) - Halogens
What it is now: Osram XENARC HB3 35W - HID

The kit is a simple one and is 'Plug-n-Play' types with minor changes to be done in the HID wiring and an irreversible change to one part of the headlight unit i.e. the dust cover (requires hole to be drilled). The kit consists of a set of 4200K HB3 bulbs with 35W Ballast, Igniter and a CAN-BUS adaptor (there is another kit available with 6000K bulbs).

Steps of Installation:
  1. Lift the hood, disconnect the battery
  2. Open the dust caps and Disconnect the OEM halogen bulb
  3. Drill a hole in the dust caps (Just sufficient to pass the wiring and make a tight seal)
  4. De-pin the connector that connects the ballast to pass through the dust cap and this the pins correctly after passing through
  5. De-pin the connector which plugs into the OEM headlight connector as the polarity is inverted. Swap the positions to match polarity to that of the OEM headlight connector (YELLOW on OEM connector to RED on HID connector should match)
  6. After the wiring is passed through and fit tight, fit the HID bulb in place
  7. Connect the wiring of the bulbs and ballast
  8. Check all connections and if okay, reconnect the battery
  9. Switch ON the engine and switch on the headlight.
  10. If all okay, using 3M tape, mount the ballast, igniter and CAN-BUS adapter in a safe place (secure with ZIP ties if needed).

Videos of the Output (Comparison)

Two videos taken at the same spot in comparison for Halogens vs HID's

So far have driven 60 kms after the HID fix, I can say it is 25-35% better than the halogens and I have kept the height at 'Level 2' with the HID's as compared to 'Level 1' to avoid any glare on the oncoming road users.

The other thing that I can confirm is, flashing works after the HID has been in OFF for a longer time (this was one worry as HID's need time to startup compared to halogens so the flashing feature in the day time would be lost but that's not the case here. Thank God!).

One thing I understand is the projectors are designed keeping the halogen bulbs in mind so if one fits the HID's in place, output will not be as desirable as projectors specifically designed for HID's. So one must not expect a high amount of transition and betterment in output with HID's in the same projector.

Shall update the thread regularly as I clock miles at night with this setup.

That's a good price. I remember paying 10k for it 3 years back.

Exactly why I am still using the stock bulbs. Not expecting a vast difference since the projectors are basically for halogens. I am pretty much satisfied with the stock bulbs but the itch to upgrade is still there .
