MODIFICATION #14: DIY conversion of the Reverse light to LED

The reverse light on the Creta is located on the tail light section that's on the boot lid. To access the reverse bulb, boot lid cover needs to be removed using a star screwdriver just done in MODIFICATION #12 & 13 in the above post.

It is a T15 or W16W type bulb. Bought it from eBay.in for ₹ 480 a pair.

re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

MODIFICATION #15: Speedex Font Style number plate

Inspired by the thread created by Omkar Sir titled ('Your Favourite number plate font' (Your favourite number-plate font)), started liking the Speedex Font 1 even though I voted for IND style.

Enquired with Speedex @ Chennai and transferred the money into their account. Paid 800 (including shipping). I had the number plate frame with me that I had bought almost 2-2.5 years back.

re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

Last but not the least point in the review.. Servicing. Have completed the two free services till now and nearing the third free service which is at 20,000 kms.

First service = 1000 - 1200 kms (@ Fusion Hyundai, Suchitra)

I gave the car for service at 1,198 kms. It was more of a formality and completed in 1 hours time as there was nothing to do.

Strict warnings given before handing the car to them:
  • No washing
  • No Stickers to be put anywhere on the car
  • No wheel wheel balancing, alignment etc
  • No use of polish anywhere on the car

Had a bad experience at the first service itself. I asked them not wash the car be it inside or outside. But the customer-centric guys at the ASC washed the engine bay and sprayed diesel to maintain the shine. After the completion of the service, I got the car out and checked it for any scratches as gifts etc. Opened the engine bay and was shocked to see the engine cover faded plus scratch marks all over (CRDi 16V). Called the SA and asked him to change it which is when he went inside and bought another cover promising it is new and clean. Agreed, I fit it and left. From the ASC, I went straight to my FNG for oil and oil filter change. Bought the oil and oil filter at MOBIS outlet and got the change done.

Story isn't over yet,

When I reached my FNG (23 kms away from the ASC), I was shocked again to see the condition of the so-called new engine cover. It turned into a whitish-grey in colour. Called up the SA and gave him a piece of mind. He was adamant it was new so I checked the part manufacturing and found it was almost 1 year old. Sent him the images on WhatsApp keeping the Service Head in loop this time requesting for a brand new piece out of the box. The Service head called me and promised a new piece. Went the next day to the ASC and got a new one.

SA changed it with another one assuring it is new. Happy I left the ASC...

Second service @ 9000 - 10,000 kms (@ Fusion Hyundai, Suchitra)

With a bad experience at the first service, gave them a second chance. Got the Oil, Oil filter, Air filter, AC Filter changed as per schedule. I requested the SA to change the fuel filter agreeing to pay but he didn't agree for it so left it without arguing much. Took them 3 hours to complete the service.

Strict warnings given before handing the car:
  • No washing
  • No Stickers to put anywhere on the car
  • No wheel wheel balancing, alignment etc
  • No use of dashboard polish anywhere on the car

Here's the Service Summary from the Hyundai Care App

This is all for now. Shall keep the thread updated as I clock miles and go about upgrading things in the car.

Thanks for reading guys. Hope you guys like it.

Congratulations Mr Anurag Sir

I wouldn’t say this is a an ownership log - rather I’d call it a complete review and DIY catalog for Creta

Your level of attention to detail is pretty much known to this forum and you’ve proved it yet again!

Keep munching miles on the sweet looking Creta of yours! Do let me know when you drive down to Bangalore. We can catch up!

Awesome thread, cool mods. I have just one question, do these affect the warranty in any way?

Thank you sir.

The car has visited ASC for first and second service where the SA was informed what all has been done on the car, he was okay with it and no entries of any of these modifications have been done in their data management system by the SA so I presume all is well.

Edit:

All modifications are reversible so not an issue if I have to roll back to stock.

re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

Congratulations Anurag. Superb review and I am amazed by your attention to detail in doing these DIY installations and writing about them. Your's/Gannu's/Tejas's thread is an inspiration for me to try different things with my car.

Two points:

1. After going through our review , I realized that there is a great deal of part sharing between Creta and my elite i20 [2017,crdi,Asta(o)]. Steering wheel, MID, controls, cabin lights, instrument cluster, gear nob, reverse camera.... the list goes on. I am thinking about upgrading my halogen projector headlamps to Philips Extreme vision like you did. Is it worth the effort? Can you say it increases the output by at least 20-30%? (I think headlamps of both Cret and i20 uses same bulb)

2. I am very impressed with the final outcome of your cabin light and boot lamp conversion DIY. Is it simple remove and replace kind of DIY so that an amateur (like myself) can do?

Rating this thread five stars and adding to my subscriptions

Congratulations on the Creta. Loved every bit of this thread. Would love to see (and also hear the audio equipment) all the mods in person.

PS: ping me when you are putting the polk audio equipment on sale.

@a4anurag had actually put up his whole audio setup for sale a few months ago. Later, he changed his mind and installed the same on his Creta. As per him, the audio clarity has improved by a huge margin but the bass has taken a hit.

At this rate, I think companies like Hyundai and VW are going to wise up, and launch the Creta 'a4anurag' and Polo 'Gannu' special editions at nice fat premiums! You guys are really doing a lot to promote the DIY culture amongst petrolheads. Threads like this give some amount of confidence to guys like me who think twice before opening the bonnet to clean the engine bay area
