re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

MODIFICATION No. 33: Dual brake light MOD

A minor modification that I wanted from long to be done on the car. Both BHPian interc00led and I did it as we had a spare set of tail lights and the harness with us.

Parking light ON

I accepted it at that time but after a while, the colour and consistency didn't look right and how it should be. It was too diluted (more water content) so decided to change the coolant proactively at my FNG yesterday.

Bought 2 bottles of Castrol Radicool Heavy-duty (1L)
Attachment 1825635
The coolant that is shipped with Creta is good for 10 years or 2 lakh kms which ever comes first.

Per the Creta user manual (pdf) - Pg 9-12

Did you miss that ?

Attaching from the owner's manual:

Diesel Engine

Petrol Engine

It is mentioned that the first change of coolant should happen at 30,000 kms. I did it late in my car as it was fine at 30,000 kms.

I prefer changing the coolant every 50,000 kms. So hereon it'll happen every 50,000 kms.

The one that I attached is the screenshot of the owner's manual downloaded from Hyundai Customer Service website.

My colleague who owns a Creta too has the details just like the one you posted.

Has Hyundai changed the coolant quality and replacement interval?

Shall be sending the car for service tomorrow or day after and update the thread with the costs incurred.

Checked with very senior SA's from Hyundai and they indicated that the coolants used in Creta were fill it and forget it type since day 1. It could have been a typo in the user manual. May be you should check with CRM of Hyundai on this

My original Coolant was changed at 30000km with the newer grade one and the same was confirmed by hyundai, after I complaint about change of coolant earlier than required as mentioned in hyundai care application to hyundai by email.

Odometer at 6th Service

My regular HASS was not in a position to accept car's for the day as they were over-booked and had asked me to come tomorrow for the service but I wanted to get the servicing done today so headed to their other branch located 15 kms away. Reached the service centre by 12:10 and handed the car to them with the following instructions to be done.
  • Engine oil change;
  • Engine air filter change;
  • Engine oil filter change;
  • A/C Filter change;
  • Brake pads and shoes cleaned;
  • Brake caliper pins cleaned, inspected and greased.

Getting ready for the service

Engine oil filled temporarily is Servo 15W40 grade mineral oil that will be replaced soon with 5W40 grade synthetic oil.

All done, I was out by 13:40 as no washing, polishing, wheel alignment etc was done at the ASC. I did the wheel alignment, balancing and rotation also at my regular MRF T&S centre that was 500 meters away.

50,000 kms Service Bill

****EXIDE-OUT & AMARON-IN****

The other long-pending activity was battery replacement in my car, that was already weak (1-cell non-functional) giving me symptoms everyday as it could conk-off anytime so finally did go ahead with the replacement today. In the evening, when BHPian interc00led (as the battery in his Fiesta too required a change) was free, we went to our FNG and got the batteries replaced in both our cars.

Threw the Exide out and fit in a new Amaron FLO battery (68Ah). Paid ₹4,500 after an exchange with the Exide.

DIY Cleaning: Cowl Panel

After meeting BHPian GSMINC who was actually on his way to Vijayawada but had stopped to meet us plus had requested us to help him sort issues related to the HID fog projectors that I had installed in his car almost 1 year back, we (BHPian interc00led and I) had got a bit of free time after helping him out so decided to clean the cowl panel.

Was a 30-minute job as there is nothing much difficult to remove or fiddle about. Wiper arms came out easily and apart from the two nuts holding the wiper arm, 4 press-fit clips were holding the cowl panel in place. Once it was removed, the panel could be lifted and removed for cleaning.

Covered the battery, headlights area and then used the Karcher pressure washer to clean the area properly.

Cowl panel that is to be removed to clean

Lift the caps using a flat-head screwdriver that conceals the nuts holding the wiper arms

In Fresh air mode, door/shutter is open, AC filter can be seen
Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!-fresh-air-mode-door-open-ac-filter-can-seen.jpg

Recirculation mode, door/shutter is closed.

Cowl panel refit after cleaning

After 51,000 kms of usage, there was nothing much to clean except for a few leaves accumulated near the wiper motor area.

Will keep an eye on this area frequently to avoid rust-related issues.

2 things sir..

I own 2018 facelifted Creta (SX(o))

1. I tried to check the checkbox to view video when the car is on the move. I long pressed the settings button, but nothing happened. After I released the settings button, it took me to the settings screen and not the screen you mentioned.
2. I installed car stream app to view the youtube videos. In Android auto -> dev settings -> I turned ON unknown sources. After this in the car, I went to AA and clicked the time icon, but only "Return to Hyundai" was there. This car stream app appeared under the Music menu. When clicked on it, it gave a note asking to play the videos by clicking on the last icon in AA, which is nothing but the clock icon.

What could I be doing wrong here? Please suggest.

Drive belt Changed

A few days back while the car was parked at BHPian interc00led's house and we were using the two-wheeler for city use, after 6 hours when we came back and started the car, a few seconds later we heard a 'thud' from the engine bay and immediately a kitten ran out from the engine back. Our hearts sank, quickly stopped the engine and checked if any more of them were there but luckily only one was there and it was fine. Today morning while inspecting the engine bay, found strands of the drive belt near the frame. Without any further delay got it replaced at myFNG.

Part Name: Drive Belt - 'V'
Part No.: 25212-2A810
Price: ₹349

Indicator Upgrade to LED's

LED's were carried over from the Swift and finally got to fit them on the car. Only the rear ones have been converted to LED's. Front ones are stock and will be swapped while we get to open the headlight for addressing some issues with the projectors.

Used resistors (50W/6 ohms) to address the hyper flashing of these LED's.

Paid ₹500 for the set with AliExpress Standard shipping option. Got the delivery in 9 days.
