re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

Regarding the hum at 1500 rpm, check the bonnet latch. Adjust the bonnet height and add a tape/insulation material to the hinge and see if it helps. Also get the engine mounts checked.

Done sir. No use actually.

Change in the clutch set is what shall solve the issue. Many forums outside India and couple of Creta owners on Facebook who was facing this humming issue have reported normalcy after the clutch set change.

I shall bear that humming issue and continue to drive and change the clutch set when it wears out. OEM clutch has a lot of life left in it (verified at my FNG).

Old thread, but thought I'd give an input. The EGR blanking plate I received had holes wider than those on the car. Had to mill them deeper to fit. Not a plug and play.

Also Anurag, is it OK to drive the car with the EGR coupler hooked on? Haven't yet got a check light. Have however just done a 10km test drive. Thank you.

After blanking the EGR with that plate, you can reconnect the coupler. No issues and no CEL will light up.

I'm driving it the same way as I have reverted to the stock map. When I remap it again, will do a soft delete for the EGR.

re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

Bought the Petronas Tutela Technyx 75W85 gear oil locally from Fiat ASC (Thanks to pdma sir and his friend Nibed).

Gear shifts are back to normal and smooth as new.

Got some time and the FNG was free too so went there and cleaned the drum brakes. Have placed an order on Boodmo for caliper pin grease.

The odometer will reach 75,000 kms in another 80 kms post which shall be visiting MRF T&S Centre for wheel alignment, balancing and rotation. The front left strut needs to be changed mostly, shall have a look at it during the 80,000 kms service and change if required.

re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

Clutch and brake-related issues are aplenty especially in the Creta and it is a surprise that Hyundai India is silent about it.

Clutch related issue I've experienced so far are:
  1. Humming between 1,500-1,800 RPM;
  2. Gear's don't engage without resistance (especially 'N to 1st' & '2nd to 3rd');
  3. Mild thud when shifting from 'N to 1st'.

Issue 1's solution is clutch and pressure plate change, no other way that I can think of. Issue 2 & 3 are happening as the clutch is not releasing fully. We could solve (80%) this by a small modification that BHPian interc00led came up with - 'slightly longer pushrod (slave cylinder)'.

During the clutch bleeding exercise, we found the slave cylinder boot wet and it was having brake fluid inside, so we decided to open and clean it properly before refitting it with the longer pushrod. Got the pushrod done for ₹250.

New pushrod vs OEM one

As a preventive maintenance part, open the gear lever boot lubricated the shifter ball area and adjusted the gear cables as per the service manual.

Hey! Inspired by your ingenuity I ordered similar lamps off amazon and tried to open the mirrors while waiting for these to be delivered.

I have an urgent question, the part behind the small black cover on which you installed the light is packed with wiring and four screws. How did you manage to pass the wires through it?

I don't have a lot of modifications on my car and I prefer keeping the workhorse that way but this was one thing that I really liked.

Thanks for sharing !

The dual-core wire that we used for puddle lamps was fished through the ORVM wire routing channel using a 'nylon zip tie'. Was difficult and time consuming but it finally went through.

That does seem like a novel idea.
However the orvm doesn't seem to have inlets on the door end too except for the main harness.

Did you drill an extra hole somewhere?

This one really got me scratching my head. Attaching a photo for reference.

No extra holes were drilled at all.

After identifying the '+ve' and '-ve' wires that the puddle lamp needs to be connected to, we used a depinning tool and removed the two corresponding pins from that black ORVM connector. Soldered the puddle lamp wiring to those pins and reinserted them into that connector and pushed it back into its place.

Any plans to change the alloys? Your gen Creta is a looker compared to the new one.

No plans on alloy change. Love the current design and prefer it as it suits the car.

Are you sure that you got the correct wiring harness, the correct set of the steering mounted switches and the correct clock spring ? I am asking this because the wiring setup for the 2 litre Creta is different as that has got a heated steering wheel. Even in the 1.6 litre variants, there are 4 different variations of the switches and wiring harnesses each depending on whether there is a heating function in the steering wheel and whether the MID is of the "Supervision Cluster" type or the basic type. If I remember correctly.

Aliexpress has all possible combinations of each of the aforementioned items. Another thing which you can do is to shine a bright light on your Creta's MID in the OFF position. If you can make out a slight shadow of the cruise control indicator light in the lower right corner of the MID then your Creta probably supports the upgrade. If not then installing cruise control may not be possible but I cannot say this with 100% conviction as the throttle control is electronic. Here is what the service manual says about the electronic throttle control or ETC and I am quoting verbatim "The Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) System consists of a throttle body with an integrated control motor and throttle position sensor (TPS).

Instead of the traditional throttle cable, an Accelerator Position Sensor (APS) is used to receive driver input. The ECM uses the APS signal to calculate the target throttle angle; the position of the throttle is then adjusted via ECM control of the ETC motor. The TPS signal is used to provide feedback regarding throttle position to the ECM. Using ETC, precise control over throttle position is possible; the need for external cruise control modules/ cables is eliminated." Sadly, I do not have the wiring diagrams for the steering mounted controls, else I would have shared them with you.

For the SX(O) variant, equipped with "supervision cluster", cruise control indication is inside the MID at the top.

I have checked using G-Scan 2 for cruise control etc but no luck. It can't be enabled in my version.

That is truly saddening. I was hoping for some miracle in my 2017 Creta Petrol AT especially considering the ETC description
