Hmmm. 40K kms in less than a year ? With that kind of mileage, 8K maintenance is actually quite low. Looks like his girl his driving him around quite a bit.

When I said that 8K a year is on the higher side, I was considering the normal service interval of 10K kms or 1 year.

You may be right if you are refering to an Esteem with 90k on odo. But Esteem rattling at 90Kph is outrageous. Also, I agree that Ikon rear seats are better than that of Esteem but Esteem offers more legroom for front passengers.

For a moment I thought you own an Ikon 1.6. Please don't go by what car mags say. Accent doesn't really give any nasty surprises!

Good that you didn't face any problems. My close friends Ikon Flair gave him a bill of 15,000+ Rs by the time he ran it for 10,000 Kms.

Think he is honest there. My uncle's Flair is returing 10 kpl in city with 100% a/c on

IMO, 8K a year is kind of an overkill when it comes to maintenance for a relatively new car (assuming yours is like 2 years old).

25k was in 3 years time.

It is all in the maintenance. If you care less for it, then it will not only creak or rattle, it will break down. Unlike ford cars, the esteem even though it is dated, can still be repaired & made a spanking new car, without much costs either. Have you sat in the poor old ford escorts ? you should. they beg for some attention.
I have test driven a esteem and Ford Ikon prior to my purchase and found ikon rock solid, Maruti is famous for "Cosmetic Changes" nothing else they dont even bother to change the engine that very sad on there part. And for ur knowledge Ford Escort failed due to high price and engine were locally sourced from Mahindra which were not powerful. u cant compare Ikon's chassis wid esteem they arent comparable !!!
