Re: My Ford Fiesta Classic 1.6 : 9 Years & 62,000 kms!

What a beautiful thread. Absolutely love the way you have maintained your car. I recently drove my uncle's 2009 1.6 fiesta with 78k on the odo and was absolutely mesmerized with the acceleration and steering feel(Ford India should've retained that 1.6 duratec), because the car's condition was not at it's best(had been in the Mumbai floods ). Do let us know the night driving experience, because I found the headlights to be a bit underpowered(although my headlight lens might have been a bit fogged from the bottom).

Great indeed! All the fiesta owners are happy with their machine except for 2 things - Low FE & GC.

I still own fiesta 1.4 D for nearly 12 years and have crossed 1.5L kms with it. Absolutely no reason to sell it and still puts a big fat smile whenever I press the gas.

re: My Ford Fiesta Classic 1.6 | 11 years & 69,000 km!

Hi Arun,

Congratulations on owning the beauty, I just can't get over the looks.

I had a 2011 TDCI SXi classic with soft dashboard which I drove for 90k and had to let it go. One, because of the lack of dead pedal, my ankle used to pain ( I am short as well) and wanted to have a little more power. The seat height adjust was nothing but joke.

I had my own share of figo stall issue, but nothing much to complain. I also had issues with, one, the keys and secondly the steering. The steering rack once and second time the rack plus column were replaced on warranty and I haven't looked back.

Clutch was never an issuevwith me and it ran stock till I sold and some people did ask if it's new. So you may need to get that checked.

Wishing you many more miles of happiness

Get both the headlights changed and you'll have no reason to complain for another 2 to 3 year. My headllight did fog in 3 years time.

Or now you have the choice of retrofitting, if you have the money.

re: My Ford Fiesta Classic 1.6 | 11 years & 69,000 km!

Nostalgic thread @arun1100 ... being a Fiesta (1.6S) owner myself, I could relate to your story and I share some of the feelings you shared. The Fiesta is very heartily connected. With its fantastic ride and handling, every drive makes me fall in love much more. In fact, last week after being long locked up at home, I had to venture out for my vaccination... and it was sheer pleasure driving on the relatively less crowded Mumbai roads.

Btw I had bought the 1.6S at Rs 7.26 lakh on road in Mumbai in July 2009 (with some offers and corporate discount). I am in the 12th year of ownership, looking for a replacement but it is going to be really tough to part with the Fiesta. In fact, when the new car discussion came up, my wife said why not buy another Fiesta

Great review. Thanks for sharing. You have maintained the car very well, and it is a pleasure to see that. Serves as a role model for a lot of people to hold on to their cars for long periods. Enjoy another ten years with her.

I guess it was the 1.6S!

Thank you! I used to visit Metro Ford on St.Marks road. Since this dealer is closed now, I go to PPS Ford on International Airport road. They seem fine to me.

I was actually checking out few Fiesta Petrol's off-late for my family & just realizing from your post that CLXi doesn't have ABS too. Thankyou for that info. I was aware that it doesn't have air bag but missed this point during my checks. Thankyou for that eye-opener.
Thank you!! Hope you find a good Fiesta soon.

Looks young, do keep for long time and enjoy. Add to that, you have an enviable garage. 1.6 petrols are quite rare even in the used market, good to hear the spares are not an issue.
Thank you!

True that, regarding the Ford's handling!

If there is any one car from the past which I would like to own then it would be Figo/Classic twins.

Arun, I think once this COVID-19 weakens and we all get back to our normal lives, we should definitely catch-up!

Hey Arun, nice to know you and your Fiesta looks great! I have sent you a PM. Hope to catch up soon!!

Arun, lots of lovely pics there ! Thank you.

In 2009 when I was looking out for a car to replace our Indigo Marina, I did check the Fiesta. But it was the older version. Not this one. If it had been this one, I would have taken it. This is much smarter than the previous one. I ended up taking the 1.4 Ikon D.

re: My Ford Fiesta Classic 1.6 | 11 years & 69,000 km!

Me and Arun have driven around and ridden so much in classic cars and scooters, bikes that this Fiesta always took the back seat. We literally had too few chances to drive this car for our drives.

In one of the drives, Arun had to force his idea into driving the Fiesta to Mangalore instead of us going in a Classic car. He let me drive the car for most of the drive Or I snatched the privilege, I cant remember. Boy, this car was so much fun to drive! Almost all my life I have been driving Fiats, including classics and this, was as close to driving a Fiat. I loved every bit of driving and was woth skipping idea of classic car for that drive.

I have had the privilege of hitting all-time top speeds of most vehicles owned by Arun. This Fiesta, the Ambassador, his Jawa, their Padmini, his dad's Bullet, dad's Scooter. In fact his cycle too

The car looks very good in that colour, I don't think I have ever seen a Fiesta in that colour. The review was also very well written and I enjoyed reading it.
This is my 2007 Ford Fiesta, 13 years and still going strong.

re: My Ford Fiesta Classic 1.6 | 11 years & 69,000 km!

Loved reading your LTO thread, Arun1100! What took you so long to write it up, as you've been owning the car for nearly a decade?

Happy to know that you're enjoying it to the hilt. I miss mine, though the new Ecosport has come as a worthy replacement.

I agree with your review of the pros and cons, especially about the hard clutch. Coming from a Maruti ownership (M800 and WagonR), I found it hard even on day 1. But the stock clutch lasted all the 13.7 years and 82k on the odo! I was not having any plans to change it. In comparison, the clutch on my diesel Figo is lighter!

I can see from the pictures that the interiors in the Classic look more like the Figo--especially the ICE. I too have been having problems with the volume control in my Figo tdci of 2012 make. But the one in the Fiesta was perfect, till i replaced it with a Blaupunkt a couple of years ago. This apart, the dashboard in my sxi looked better, including the trim around the ICE and gear console.

Maintenance was light on the pocket, with belts, wiper fluid container, coolant container and cam seal being changed only after 10 to 13 years of ownership. Speaks volumes about the quality of the Fiesta!

Wish you many more happy miles!

Nice review! Quite a few interesting pics too, especially the pricelist and the brochures.

Another thing that caught my attention are the graduations in the speedometer, 10kmph and 210kmph markings. Interesting and unique! (Atleast to me)

re: My Ford Fiesta Classic 1.6 | 11 years & 69,000 km!

Hi , I used my Fiesta 1.6 Petrol SX for 9 years. It was my first car. Had to let it go due to lack of parking space in Mumbai. I loved every km I drove in it. Back then it was quite ahead of it's times to have dual air bags , ABS , rear glass defogger , superb music system , power side view mirrors with electrical tilt adjustments ,leatherette seats , soft dashboard and fantastic build quality. It was a poor man's BMW. I had bought it for 8.60 L on road in Mumbai. I always maintained it well and it was built to last. Even the rubber trims of window were intact. The AC was a chiller. Thanks for reviving my good memories of the car. I don't know if even Ford makes such cars these days.

Nostalgia triggered.

It's always good to read a nice long-term ownership thread. I'm glad to know that the car has served your family very well.

The Fiesta Classic has the same dashboard trim and ICE unit from the Figo. TBH it's one or two grades lower in quality compared to the non-Classic ones. Cost-cutting was evident.
