Re: Hyundai Getz 1.3 Prime. EDIT : 58,000 kms Service Report

Serviced the car today with odo reading at 66,700 kms. The car has run only around 4,500 kms since the last service 5 months back as I usually use bike/ bus for office commute. Gave the car for service early as I did not change oil last time because of low mileage. Other than normal service, I got the front wiper blades changed, and A/C neutralization done (agreed to it as I had not done it for over a year). The total bill came to Rs. 4790.

I carried engine oil (Shell HX7) brought from outside for service. I did not get the oil can back with the left over oil, which they usually give. The reason given was that there was only 150ml left after lubricating the oil filter, so they threw it away. The service advisor says he personally monitored the engine oil change and there is nothing to worry.

A tire at the rear is losing air than normal, so I need to fill air weekly. I took it to the tire shop and they changed the pin saying that it will be fine. The issue is not solved, so I am planning to get the neck changed for that tire. The service advisor was supposed to replace it. The reason he gave for not replacing was that the neck they have do not match the tire I have. I do not buy that reason, I think he forgot to do it.

The current tire set, Michelin XM1, has run around 36000 kms with just a puncture. I am very happy with the tire, the only issue is that it has become noisy even though the thread life is good. Planning to get it replaced in another 10000 kms. I have been getting allignment/ balancing done from outside every 5000 kms.

I checked with the service advisor if there is any shortage for Getz spares. He says no such issues and there are cars running fine even after 2 lakh kms.

The vehicle is running like new as I do not have any plan to replace it. It brings a smile on my face every time I take it to highway, especially after the remap. Love the solid feeling of the vehicle and the feedback from the hydraulic steering. Hope it will serve me for long.

re: Hyundai Getz 1.3 Prime. EDIT : 81,449 kms Service Report

I had a short leisurely drive after awhile, thus having the time to experience more closely, the driving characteristic of the car.The best part of the route began at the M47 Patton Tank in city centre, following the curvy roads cutting through Domlur, onto the 360 loop following the flyover to Old Airport Rd until K'la.

The car still moves in a very poised, direct manner. I do feel that 10% of the refinement of the car is reduced over time but even then it beats most modern competitors in terms of noise isolation. The car is most comfortable in medium speeds (60-80). I've seen that the sweet spot is right around 1800-2200 (when shifting). While that may sound low one has to remember that the torque on engine is higher and its tuned for city driving comfort. Anything less than that and the car may lag when you upshift and anything more and the engine will unduely strain & give a feel of braking when upshifting. Keep the rev in the sweet spot & its truly seamless. Taking on the twisties is fun in safe city speeds, of course I take all precautions & only do so if the stretch is mostly isolated. I noted that when bringing the vehicle back to straight in deeper bends, the course correction doesn't feel as instant as the turn itself. Hence you either have to flick the wheel to the opposite direction ever so slightly after coming to center, or reduce the speed to 30/40. The suspension manages the best balance between soft & sturdy, more on the sturdy end which I like. The European version has tyres of 185/55 R15 which would make it more firm due to lower sidewall, not suitable for our country conditions of course.

More than anything I like the simplicity of the car, I don't need Bluetooth or parking sensors. Its peaceful sitting inside & that's all I need.

The body roll has increased recently, with the suspension becoming more soft. The car has run 67,500 kms. How many kms have you run? Do you find increase in body roll?

I am wondering about changing the suspension and I would have to go for a bigger car in two years once the kids grow up. Parking is a big premium in our apartment complex. There is no sound as such and the ride is quite good.

The NVH on cold start is not there nowadays. Hope it would not come back.

I don't find much changes in the suspension from its earliest form. If anything I feel its a *bit* harder than before, it doesn't seem to absorb bad patches as quietly as before but don't know for sure though. Upgraded to Earth-1's since the old tyres were hard and had visible wear, I'm satisfied with its neutral ride. There is absolutely zero body roll in normal speeds, maybe something to do with lower tyre pressure in your case? If I remember the Michelins in your car being softer compound also slightly aid in flexing during turns giving the illusion of wobbly suspension.

Service centre is still a pain to deal with, constantly degrading in quality levels. Mine has done 52k so far, been running it less over the past 6 months.

re: Hyundai Getz 1.3 Prime. EDIT : 81,449 kms Service Report

My 2007 Getz GLS has done around 52K. Still rides well. About a year back changed the original Goodyear tires to Yokohama A Drive. Great ride quality.

Some maintenance work has come up after 8 years of niggle free service:

1) The AC seems to be cooling less and the ASS said I need entire AC system cleaning done. Need to leave the vehicle for a couple of days. Cost estimate around INR 5K+-

2) The hydraulic pump of tail gate need replacement. Cost estimate around INR 3K+- for a pair.

Any idea what they do in a full AC clean process? Anyone done this for any car? Does the AC become effective (like new) after full service?

re: Hyundai Getz 1.3 Prime. EDIT : 81,449 kms Service Report

Recently completed 55K service on my Getz. This time the ASC said that they've added some oil as additive along with regular oil & filter change which requires servicing once a year iso every 6 months. Anyone has any idea what this additive is?

Also changed the trunk hydraulic lifts after 8+ years. Also did a tyre rotation & balancing.

I get AC serviced outside at the Car AC service centre. I got my AC condenser cleaned, using pressurized water, from an outside garage before going to the AC service centre - paid Rs. 500. The AC service centre just topped the coolant, do not remember the cost - anyway not more than 2k, after which the AC is as good as new. Got it done a couple of years back. Check with Hyundai what they are going to do. It seems like taking you for a ride. Better to get it checked from a reliable Car AC service centre.

I also changed the trunk hydraulic lifts a couple of years back.

It must be the engine oil additive. Another money making gimmick. Just use a good quality engine oil.

Thanks. I did not know there were dedicated car AC only service centers. Will try to search for them and check it out.

They are more reliable than service centre, because of specialization. This is the place I visit in bangalore - http://www.wecoolblr.in/

Hyundai could not diagnose the electrical issue in my santro - issue with alternator because of which battery was losing charge. They replaced the battery, but the issue reoccurred once the battery lost charge. Finally I got it diagnosed and fixed from an electrical repair shop for automobiles. I mostly rely on specialists outside for AC, electrical and detailing.

The challenge is in finding an expert outside whom you can rely on - look for old shops which have been there for decades, recommended by others. See if there is an owner who is old and experienced.

Good tips, thanks.

Any recommendation of 'electrical experts' in Hyderabad area.

Changed the tire recently to Michelin XM2 and the body roll is not evident. I attribute the increased body roll to the soft sidewall of Michelin XM1+ getting softer, which I was using earlier. Changed it after close to 5 years with usage of 40000 kms even though there was enough thread to last another 5000 kms. There were some small cracks and some tires were losing air faster. The ride quality has improved a lot after tire change and no road noise at all.

re: Hyundai Getz 1.3 Prime. EDIT : 81,449 kms Service Report

Got the Getz serviced, its running as reliably as ever. The accelerator pedal felt a little inconsistent in terms of smooth motion so they lubricated & adjusted it (apparently) and now it accelerates smoothly and quickly. The stock clutch is still performing great as there is no jerkiness or loss of power, gearshift is much better than the new Hyundai models like Elite i20/Grand i10. Suspension is doing its job as quietly as ever, without any body roll or thud noise which even their current models have.

I know that now perhaps, replacement is inevitable at some stage but so far not a single car has come remotely close to the all-roundedness of this one. 55,000 happy kilometres.
